I started playing sax in 2019 in my middle school band because my teacher wanted me to play a wind instrument (I only played piano at the time). I instantly fell in love with playing saxophone and would practice for atleast 3 hours a day. Now as a freshman I made wind ensemble (our top band) on tenor sax, and made it into the top jazz group as 2nd tenor!

In 2018, I picked up the alto sax while i was a 5th grader(yes i’m young) for the main reason was that I knew the sax was a big part in jazz, and loved jazz at the time(still do). Playing an instrument has gotten me through some tough times, and has made me more ambitious, with me now learning soprano sax. Playing the sax has been one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done in my life.

Started playing clarinet in 1969, loved the sound of the Benny Goodman lick Mr Hibbard the visiting music teacher played for us. Continued playing woodwinds through high school and college, jazz band, and pit orchestras, but put them away after I had kids. You are inspiring me to get out my old horns again and my chops in shape. Thanks so much!

I started playing the Trombone in 2016 in my 5th grade band. That year my school had like 20 something trombones so I joined band because my friends were in it. But over time, I realized how much I love music and sound itself. I started playing jazz last year, and ever since I’ve fallen in love with theory, improvisation, and listening to other dudes shred. Thanks for the opportunity you’ve given us all. I’ve been looking for a sax to learn, so I appreciate the opportunity. Love the channel, and keep up the great work man.

I started playing saxophone in 2020 During Lockdown. I worked through all the jazz graded material and played all 30 charts for each grade, hammered my basic scales, modes, blues and pentatonics etc and loved every second of it. Absolutely love it! The sax was a life line through a really difficult time. Thanks for your videos, they've always given me a smile. Stay Safe!

I started the Alto Sax in 5th grade in 2017. At the time, I just wanted to get out of a boring study hall class, but I soon grew to love it. This became my favorite thing to do in the whole world, and probably the only reason I go to school. It gave me something to do at a time where there wasn’t much, and I wanted to be the best I could be at it. I’m a Freshman this year and starting to play in the soprano, and I still feel the same enthusiasm I’ve had all those years ago. I am so thankful that I was able to have a chance to play, and I plan to continue playing throughout college and many years after. Thank you for making these videos! They’re really fun and it’s amazing to know that this passion that I have some fears about can still follow me.

I’ve played sax since my eight grade year in 2019, instantly fell in love with its sound and knew that I was going to stick with this for the rest of my life. I made it into wind ensemble 9th grade after only about a year and a half of playing and then transitioned to bari sax. I then started soprano just a couple months ago and I’m trying to look for a better horn than my current YAS-26 alto or my janky school owned soprano lmao. I’ve been a fan for a long while and you’ve taught me so much to know about the saxophone.

I started my saxophone journey in 4th grade with a student level yamaha which used through 6th grade making two regional honors ensembles and switched to a hand-me-down selmer from my uncle who played it in the rutgers marching band. Since then, I have taken part in almost a dozen state bands both jazz and classical and I am now starting to expand my horizons to flute and clarinet for the purpose of doubling. Also, your videos for all state helped me a TON. Keep up the great content! 🤟🏼

I’ve played the oboe for 3 years now (Since 2019) and am recently beginning to learn the Saxophone in hopes of making it into the jazz band at my high school. I began playing and quickly realized my love for music, especially jazz. I searched, but found that it was quite hard to reach into that world as simply an oboist. After watching your channel for many months now, I feel prepared to begin a great journey with the Saxophone. Right now I’ve just been borrowing my friend’s saxophone using my own beginner mouthpiece, ligature, and of course reeds.

In 2018, I joined the band and started on clarinet, and moved to saxophone. Someone sent me the Mariokart lick video, and from then on I was set on becoming good enough to do things like that. That along with this awesome KZbin community of saxophonists (Dave Pollack, Chad Lb, Better Sax, etc.) led me to start pursuing jazz in my earlier moments. This is my third year playing alto for middle school. At the beginning of the school year I was actually thinking about quitting band, but my band teacher invited me to try playing tenor sax for our jazz band, so I tried and loved it. I tried playing jazz pieces on alto and loved that too. The swing and smooth sound of jazz made me want to never put down my sax(s). I just recently started learning trumpet. I have grown a huge passion for playing sax.

In 2007 I picked up saxophone for the first time. I chose it because my cousin played saxophone, but once I started taking music more seriously in high school and did pit orchestra gigs I ended up falling in love with bassoon and decided to study classical bassoon at eastman. Joined the navy to help pay for my schooling, and 5 years and 3 deployments later I'm working to get back into jazz sax since I had to sell my instrument before I enlisted. 5 years of not playing music was rough but it's been the biggest blessing to be able to have it as a part of life once again. Performing music has and always will be my greatest passion in life, and making spontaneous art with others is always an amazing opportunity. You guys are killing it with the videos, wish you all the best of luck!

I started music in 2nd grade (2013) by taking piano lessons outside of school and playing recorder at school. I fell in love with it! Being able to play songs I knew and recognized was so cool to me. I continued into band in 6th grade, immediately choosing saxophone because I was told it was so versatile. I started taking private lessons and have made all-state 3 years in a row now. To me, music allows me to get away from school and other parts of life and enjoy something. Thanks for all you do for the sax and music community, I certainly feel a part of something being a subscriber to your channel. Keep it up!

I started playing the saxophone in the second semester of my sixth grade year, 2016-2017 school year, because the saxophone was always an instrument that has spoken to me as a beautiful instrument with such a unique and melodic voice and it's been my getaway ever since. I've loved every second playing the saxophone and thanks to the enjoyment and experiences I've been given from you and other saxophonists alike, I have become the state-renowned saxophonists that I am thanks to you guys! Fast forward to now, unfortunately, my alto isn't so well and it doesn't even play anymore so I'm borrowing somebody else's until I can get one of my own, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. Even if All-State and All-State Jazz auditions are but two weeks away, this horn would be a miracle to win and I would absolutely love to be the winner if I am! Thank you for all you do and keep releasing amazing, and more importantly entertaining videos!

I started to play the saxophone in 2014 because of my grandpa. He was a professional saxophonist for many years and I always loved hearing his amazing stories from his time on the road. What was even better was his ability on the horn, he always knew exactly how to make that thing speak and any time he'd break it out it was a special occasion. I aspire one day to be as good as he was, but I know either way that I'm making him proud in keeping his legacy alive.

I've been playing since 1991, way back when I was in elementary school. Of all the instruments available, the saxophone just had that sound to it. Totally different than everything else in wind band and I'm so glad I chose it. I was originally the only tenor player in my school with everyone else on alto, probably because of the size/weight. Now I'm primarily an alto player hammering out lead parts. I'm super excited to say that my 9 (very soon to be 10) year old daughter has decided to pick up the saxophone herself. She started in school this year and is learning more every day! It's exciting to see the huge changes in ability at such a young age. I've gotten to see her go from the goose honk to being able to play some simple tunes. I'm super proud of her and can't wait to see how she develops.

In 2017 I picked up my first saxophone. I started to play the sax because I loved rock music and pop and I listened to all the great guitar solos, but the sax ones stood out to me. I learnt the alto, and now, 4 years down the track, I am the lead alto player in my school's top big band, I play bari in the marching band and the senior concert band, and I also occasionally play in the orchestra. This love for music has lead me on to learning the flute, piano, pipe organ and trumpet to a very high level. I also tinker around with the violin, guitar and recorder. I love your chanel and your style of videoing! If you pick this comment, please choose another. I started playing alto around 2018, as my mom wanted me to get into music. I wasn't fond of it at all for a very long time, until the pandemic hit. I had always known that jazz existed, but outside of the Christmas big band arrangements, I had never listened to jazz. During the height of the pandemic, I practiced for 4-5 hours a day every single weekday and often the same on weekends if I had the urge. Jazz has completely changed me, from the way I listen to music, the way I perceive art, and even how I think. It really helped me through everyone's current situaton and I hope to keep evolving with my horn and becoming the best p layer possible. Sorry for the rant, as always, love your content!

I've been planning on getting a saxaphone for a while now because I love the sound and learning a reed instrument would expand my musical knowledge and skills.

Technically I have been playing piano since I was 7 years old, (I'm turning eighteen soon :) I began in 2014 playing clarinet in middle school band. I went that for two years and then doubled playing tenor sax in our jazz band. Once I got into high school I primarily played tenor sax. I had a really good sax teacher and band director, plus an amazing upperclassmen who I still look up to today. They've all inspired me soo much to just grind and get really good. Because of them I have been nominated for Colorado University Honor Band my sophomore year and junior year. As well as Colorado State University Honor Band my Sophomore year. In sophomore year I was playing on an beginner level Bundy, which I also marched on. I think in middle school, everyone does band because they kinda have to. But once I got into high school the main reason I started playing was to improve my sound, (stemming from that inspiration) and also the amazing community. Not only the marching band community but the teachers and even your channel have made my saxophone journey so enjoyable. I am so proud to be a saxophonist. I have always wanted have my own alto sax to expand my musical and instrumental ability. I first heard about this saxophone on better sax's channel, then I saw your video and I was like omg I have to get this. Thank you so much for making amazing content, and helping me procrastinate all my homework :) This is too long haha.

I started playing clarinet in 6th grade in 2019 and instantly fell in love with music. I felt like music allowed me to truly express myself and show who I really am, and in late 2020, I started playing bass clarinet along with soprano clarinet. I love its beautiful sound and the way it feels when I play. Bass clarinet inspired me to push further with learning more instruments, and I even got second place in all-region a few weeks ago, placing me into wind ensemble. But me wanting to play saxophone really started this year when I started getting into making my own music and starting to love jazz. I joined my middle school jazz band and have had so much fun with it. I never thought I would be a musician when I was younger, but getting into music has made me such a happier person, and I want to pursue in my music career further by learning to play more instruments, and saxophone is at the very top of the list.

Great videos. Started playing tenor in the spring of 1975 at the end of my sophomore year in h.s. It's always been a hobby. I've had the opportunity to be a part of 3 different wind symphony orchestras and 2 different church orchestras. It's been a blast to be playing all these years. Don't give up your horn when you graduate h.s. or college.

In the sixth grade, I had originally joined choir. To be honest, it was cool until I saw all of my closest friends having fun in band. I then decided to join band in the second semester of that year and became hooked with the saxophone. My parents and band directors were patient with me catching up to everybody else in the band. A few years later, I made the TMEA 6A All-State band my sophomore year. I continued to make the All-State band my junior and senior year. I am now a freshman in college as a pre-med student. My passion for playing saxophone has not gone anywhere and I can't wait to keep playing more saxophone.

I began playing the saxophone in 6th grade, after putting into a draw to play it in the middle school band. I very much enjoy playing it, an have been doing it ever since. I chose it mainly because of the diverse uses of it, from hip hop to jazz. It constantly amazes me what things people come up with on the saxophone that can't necessarily be done on other instruments.

Some of my best memories have come from concert and jazz bands, and I hope to keep playing long into the future. I started playing alto sax about 3 months ago. I’ve always looked up to my dad who played alto throughout college and had a passion for jazz. Him and I have been working on trying to get me started after my switch from trumpet. I have started listening to jazz music quite a bit more and have found my own passion for it. I have been placed first chair (in hs band) jazz and wind ensemble. I have noticed a natural gift for the saxophone that I have been given. Just after 3 months I am doing better than majority of high school but students. I consistently practice everyday for about 3 hours. I thank my dad for it all

I'm sure I'm late to this, but I just want to share my journey so far. I started off by picking up a tuba back in about 2016. I played classically until 2018 where I started to learn piano and joined my schools jazz band. I remember playing my first blues Scale, Bb blues, and just falling in love with the notes. From then I knew I was in love with jazz. I went into highschool from there, and just last year picked up playing bari. I play all of the saxophones, but I am in love with bari. I've spent a lot of years studying a TON of music theory and I'm still learning more and more as I go on. Right now I'm planning to attend a music school for jazz studies on bari sax and also to continue playing tuba. I dream one day I'll be able to play in brass bands as a known tubist and also be known for my baritone saxophone playing. Here's hoping🥂

Started playing the saxophone in the 4th grade, around 2009/2010, because I come from a musical family, dad a pianist/educator and my brother a trumpet player, and we happened to have an 1980's student Armstrong alto saxophone that I could use. Played alto for 2 years, moved up to tenor then started adding other woodwinds, like clarinets, flutes, bassoons, oboes and recorders. Fast forward to today, I am an active woodwind doubler playing in pit orchestras across Long Island NY and currently a third year bassoon performance major. I still use that same Armstrong alto for gigs, even though after a few repairs, it's on its last leg lmaoo

It all started in 2016 when I went to go choose what instrument I was going to play for band in 6th grade - high school. I then played the alto saxophone at the instrument fitting, and I fell in love with it; therefore, I chose to play alto sax. My dad was happy with my decision because he played alto in high school as well. Once we got home from the event, he pulled out his old, dusty, Yamaha alto sax that he had bought by himself when he was younger. I still use that old, beautiful instrument today for marching, concert, plus solo & ensemble bands!

My music journey began in 2003 with the violin in elementary school orchestra, but program was so underfunded that I stopped after 2 years. Then a few years later at the end of middle school I started piano and a little bit later guitar because I was mainly listening to rock music. Got decent at it, but after moving away for college I basically stopped playing. Finally out of college I started up again and started posting covers here on youtube and instagram! During this revival of music in my life I also started getting curious about wind instruments and found your channel a few months ago, then one thing led to another and now I own a Jean Paul TS-400 haha. The first day I played the sax something magical happened and I fell for the sax. Although I was not great at the instrument I learned the basics into the 4th week. As we moved through the season I learned more that the songs but also other etudes and was getting better than the other saxophonist that have been playing for 3 years. It took multiple hour’s and perseverance but soon my hart was with the sax now and hope to bring it to the next level as the practicing continues.

I began my musical journey on the saxophone at the age of 11 in 1968 (Yep! I'm old!), after having spent a couple of years playing the violin in elementary school. My grandfather and my granduncles were all professional musicians who worked with several of the orchestras in the "big band era" and I chose the saxophone as my instrument of choice, primarily as a result of the incredible influence that my grandpa had on me and out of the love and respect that I had for him. My father was (and still is) a collector of great music. I grew up listening to Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Donald Byrd, Cannonball Adderley, Maynard Ferguson, and so many more jazz greats. As a teen fresh out of high school, I was invited to share the stage with the late greats Clark Terry and Frank Rossolino. I began college with the intent to be a music instructor.... That ended once I began student teaching as an understudy to my former band director and I realized that I didn't have the temperament required to deal with disruptive teenage students, so I began focusing more on performance. I've been blessed with more opportunity than I rightfully deserve, but the experiences that music has presented me with over the years have enriched my life to a degree that I cannot convey through words. I found this video purely by accident, today.... but, man, what a blessing watching it has been! I absolutely LOVE hearing young talent such as that displayed by the young musicians in this video. They have both clearly done their woodshedding and devoted the time necessary to develop their chops. Bravo, bravo, bravo! Best points to take from this video? (1) There are incredible instruments out there which are fully capable of allowing a talented musician to showcase his or her talents without putting your parents into great debt! Over the years, I've owned MK VI's which played wonderfully and I've played others which were outright "dogs"! Old horns wear out over time and, in many cases, there are not always adequate parts available to replace them with. NEVER purchase an older horn without playing personally and having your trusted sax tech inspect the instrument before committing to the sale! NOT ALL SELMERS, YAMAHAS, KEILWERTHS, are worth the thousands of dollars people are asking for them. (2) While there are a lot of instruments being imported from China, Taiwan, and South Korea, some of these instruments play quite well, despite their low price tags. That fact is clearly proven in this video! A musical who sounds great on a Selmer MK VI will likely sound just a great on any well regulated sax he picks up, given the same mouthpiece/reed combination. While there are many great videos comparing instruments available on the web, this is one of the first I've watched which feature young players proving this fact. I'm grateful to have found this page. I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to more great videos from you in the future. Keep on keeping on, little brother. You have a great future lying in wait. God Bless and best wishes. Oh! WHY do I play, now? I play for Jesus!

I started to play the Alto Sax in my 5th grade year of 2016, and I remember the day they told us we had to choose an instrument to play. My dad, and Alto player (Soprano too) urged me to play and I did. It was simple to learn and the songs were fun, and some of my early friends were there with me too. Since then I have always enjoyed playing fun pieces and compositions, and fighting over who has the melody in middle school. Now I’m in the high school and my love for the sweet sax horn has taken off. And now I had discovered your channel a month ago and I think you are an amazing player and I would love a chance at that beautiful horn. Thanks, and Happy holidays!

I started playing saxophone in 2013 after the music teacher at my school gave a demonstration to my grade 4 class and I was immediately encapsulated with it. I really picked up saxophone as it gave me something to escape from as I didn't really fit in as a kid, so having something that could take my mind off things and to find people I connected with was stellar. I later moved schools and into a place where I could continue saxophone and join the year 5 band program where I picked up clarinet. Almost 10 years later and here I am still playing both going into a bachelor's of music studying classical saxophone and playing clarinet in several orchestra's. Music genuinely changed my life for the better and gave me something I could belong to and relate with.
