Saxophone Tuner Basics - Working on Intonation for Beginners

In this video Dan demonstrates how to use a tuner to see if you're playing in tune. Remember you're aiming for close and sight deviation are fine. Playing constantly flat or sharp is a strong sign that something is wrong with your embouchure or set up.
The closer to in tune you are the better you will sound. It is impossible to be 100% perfect on every note in every situation. It wouldn't sound right if you were either so don't go too crazy with the tuner. Just use it as a a visual tool to tighten things up.

That's a Korg CA-1 they do more modern versions of it these days! Tuning is important for keeping things sounding good. The further you are from true pitch the more vibration you hear between other pitches being played at the same time. This sounds bad to the human ear as we try to interpret multiple pitches at once. On the flip side of this, if you're too "in tune" it can sound mechanical. So it's getting close and using your own ear to tell what sounds good.
