"Less but better" is such a great mantra for studying, love it Wally! Great lines and sequences to study. Happy new year! Hopefully 2025 can be finally the year that we can pull of a nice collab By the way, love you bring up audiation, such an important tool. Just one sidenote from my point of view, an avid terrible singer. After trying to use my voice to consolidate what I'm hearing, it has proven to be more of a liability than a help. I can often literally think a note clearly, try to sing it and hear myself making a awful noise nothing like that pitch. So I'll still try it from time to time and when I succeed its an extra plus, but if I don't I stopped berating myself a long time ago for my lack of vocal control. It just ain' t really happening anymore for me (no joke, I had quite some years even obligated vocal lessons as part of a music program from 2 different teachers. I've never seen people get grey hair so fast ) My motivational quote for 2025: It's totally possible to sing worse than an angry duck on steroids and pump out over 200 solo transcriptions.
@drwallysax16 күн бұрын
Luckily, your alto sings for you!! 200 solo transcriptions in NUTS!!! I really hope we can collab this year - I commissioned an arrangement for us, but my friend suddenly got pulled away to arrange for the new Branford Marsalis broadway show (tough life). I'm going to make it happen this year. I think we have very similar taste in musical aesthetics, we need to play together for sure!
@SharpElevenMusic15 күн бұрын
@@drwallysax Yikes, a Braford Marsalis broadway show? That sounds like such an amazing concept. Nice! It sounds like a great idea, very excited about that!And, exactly, we do have very much similar tastes. Not sure what I'll do on the channel this year, (too many ideas) but when the opportunity presents itself I'll contact you if I have a cool idea as well. Thanks for your great content (and hilarious delivery) Cheers, Jorre

What are your thoughts on charlie Parker?
@drwallysax16 күн бұрын
Changed jazz and the saxophone forever. There is such a vibrant, explosive joy in his playing. I adore him more each year I listen. It's a shame our recordings of him are from the 1940s and Lo-Fi, not as much fun to listen to. Still, that magic shines through. I think he really elevated jazz to a new form of art-music.
