scales are horseshit, musical notation is horseshit, all of this is wishy washy bullshit. -- brought to you by the 161IQ masters degree in engineering 12-year-saxophonist, me. Its all horseshit. scales are bullshit. just play music. scales are hoooooooooooooorseshit

If you wanna know your instrument well, you must start with classical. Somehow I always can tell if a jazz musician don’t know classical. First the horrible sound due to lack of classical view on sound. But they say it’s artsy.😅artsy my ars😅

I think that highlighting that something is hand-made as a quality feature is wrong. Hand-made always means a spread in characteristics. Robot-made is always better in terms of quality and above all in consistency of quality. And Robots don't drink red wine in the lunchtime ;) Basically, it should always be: be careful, it's hand-made!

Man, I remember the days when the Selmer snobs I played with in college looked down on Japanese made saxophones. Boy, do they look dumb now. The 62 is Yamaha’s golden child, the original all around saxophone. From classical to jazz to rock to pop to RnB, the 62 is perfect for a wide variety of different musical styles.

I just use folded dollar bills to prop open keys, and leave them in the case. For the $20 price point, I can buy 20 dollar bills instead of two Key Leaves, they're easily replaceable, and you can even launder them if you like. (Most importantly, I always have cash on hand to tip the Bartender or Servers :)

For long tone practice, I like to play along to Bohren Und Der Club of Gore. If you don't know them, I suggest the record Piano Nights.

My son started playing alto saxophone in band about a year ago. He started taking private lessons a few months ago and his teacher has him start on low Bb and play chromatically up to high F sharp. The teacher is always correcting his embouchure- just like you say. This lesson will also help him with the low Bb. I tell him that low Bb defines how well you can play every other note on the sax (glad I am a guitar player - sax looks really hard!).

Hey, Wally I want to ask you a thing about reeds, so I went to the latest video. Vandoren's v12 cut really helps me get a classical sound, but if I am not using that exact cut I cannot get anything close to that sound. I want to know if that's bad because you did not recommend the cut in your video about reed brands and it also may lead to some sort of an addiction. Inability to play without "that little moral boost"
