Musicality (not to mention virtuosity !) of the highest degree ! Beautiful ! Sayaka Shoji divine as usual ! And I really liked Tatjana. As for the conductor and the Philarmonic of the Urals (I like this orchestra ) superbs !!! This conductor is already great, now the world needs to know Maestro Kazuki Yamada ! Nothing is missing in this interpretation, a must listen one, pure musicality !!! As Mr. @MGH cnsGABA said so well, the interpreters, all of them, SING !

I TOTALLY agree that this is the best version of Brahms Double uploaded to youtube. IMO - even better than the recent upload with Batiaschvili/Capuçon. I like the tempo that they take in this version.

Outstanding orchestra, performance & superb conductor. The violin & cello executed an extraordinary interpretation, powerful and moving Brahms double concerto. Definite from 19:40 the violin's resonance blooms into a unique brilliance of versatility of technical proficiency, phrasing, cadence, vibrant rhythm along with the cello, powerful emotion. It is a brilliant double duet. Thanks for sharing it.

Tonight,I am so happy. I found 2 videos of Sayaka Shoji which could not be seen in youtube.We could see this in other site in Japan. This is at La folle Journee a Nantes. The clarity and purity of the violin sound of Shoji are as always incomparable. The conductor Kazuki Yamada won the 1st prize at Concours international de jeunes chefs d'orchestre at Besancon,France,2009.Now top conductor of Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

+quinto34 I undersand you.Neither couldn't I love several virtuoso versions of this piece so much since my youth. As you know、this is the last orchestra piece of Brahms. This time I felt it was very special where soloists and orchestra "sang" so beautifully under the excellent conductor.

All the people here are singing.The orchestra is singing.Neither roughness nor coercion here.In a documentary,Shoji introduced Vassiljeva as her best friend then.There must have been good effect on the ensemble.Though it is cut in this video,the audience of Nantes clapped between the first and second and between the second and third movement.And there was a standing ovation at last.Excellent audience!!

I think not every viewer would bother to enter the comment of LIKE or Dislike. From another point of view of looking at it, one may say after 54397 viewers now, there are only 5 dislike !!! I consider this one is one of the greatest performance of this composition !!!

Take your cues from the conductor and SMILE! Please let our finer feelings flow to Tatjana as she wasn't too shabby at it. Perfection, too, manifests itself in relative degrees when Sayaka's partnering one. The audience enjoyed this heartwarming blast immensely. As did I, thoroughly and unreservedly. Outstanding!

Rarely heard in a LIVE concert, because the combo is quite STUNNING...PHEW...AMAAZZZINNNG...SUGOI...quite an amazing DOS EQuissamente!..Exhausting. I usually only get to hear a small snippet even on the Californicated RADIO...um sad. Santa Monica Classical or Sacramento Classical has a good mix. I get sooo uninterested in yet another request for the soundtrack music from Harry Potters BRitish film composer. Kudos to the folks that home school their bunions on it, but I think KZbin is the best now, their algorithm matrix is most pleasing...great rythms of better complexity firing up better neurotransmitters. Even senior 70 still working physicians attend concerts live at night...I only say this because my favorite Internal Medical German American Jewish doctors has been going since he graduated from Harvard Medical School...he also asks whtat that piece is and we have to tell him...o that beautiful piece is from Isaac Denisins's story in Out of Africa and she is in the biplace flying over the pik flamingoes.

Incredible the way Shoji keeps her power over the cello - neither Oistrakh (vs. Rostropovitch) nor Stern (vs. Ma) managed that. She's magnificent. But, the sound is awful - harsh and clipping all over the place.

I dont think thats a good thing. Its a double concerto not a violin concerto. In fact it was originally meant to be a cello concerto, but Brahms added a violin part to get back into the good graces of his violinist friend Joachim. The best ive heard is Sol Gabetta and Hilary Hahn, absolutely flawless and even across the two instruments.

I only wish that Rostropovich was still alive to play the Brahms with Shoji. The cellist is is very talented but not quite up to the Brahms her sound does not have the vibrancy to match Shoji.

I happened to see your comment today. On January 4 1997, 13 years old Shoji received a lesson of Rostropovich in his master class at Casals Hall, Tokyo. She played 1st movement of Tchaikovsky's violin concerto. He gave her very profound lesson considering her future. There is a long article on it, too hard for me to translate all.

+MGH cnsGABA Maxilian Hornung , who played this concerto (wonderfully) with great Anne-Sophie Mutter is still litle known, but could also be an wonderful partner for genial Sayaka Shoji. Thank you for all your precious info about Sayaka. I adore Sayaka and I think she is incredibly great (my favest violinist these days!!!). As for Tatjana Vassiljeva she is wonderful (nothing wrong). The Ural Philarmonic is superb too, pure musicality. And the conductor is extraordinaire ! Last but not least, YES, the Nantes's audience is very very special ! Friendly Regards (from Brazil|). PS.
