Hi Todderbert just ordered Sayin SY-8801 version 522-1620KHZ I bought it for 33 dollars from eBay. So this will be my first white radio long way to Sweden so I have to wait a while. I could not resist longer to buy it take care and have lovely evening.

@@todderbert Hej yes i think I will be happy it cost 26 dollars but, with currency surcharge and vat so it cost 33 dollars. It is sometimes expensive to buy radios from abroad and get them to Sweden but once I want a radio, I take the cost.

I wonder why companies don't make a radio with a VU meter anymore like a lot of the 1980s radios had? Especially with all of the retro designs, looks like some company would consider it. This radio would really look good with an LED VU meter or spectrum analazer.

Hej Todderbert thanks for the review of this radio and i have this radio on my shopping list now. I think it seems to be a very nice a radio with a good speaker and a radio with a good price. And nice to have a white radio in my radio collection also because I do not own a white radio. I picked up a hundred pack under $20 a year or so ago, and they have been great. My Energizers from Singapore, and my Duracells Assembled in the US have leaked, while the Delcos have not.

All well and good, but need more info to change radio to US AM radio...like TUN+ key - where is that?

TUN+ is the Tune Up "^" Button next to the power button.

@@todderbert Nope., I have been trying TUN+, M+, efc,. it is still stuck on 522 kHZ to 1620kHZ....not the American 540 kHZ to 1700kHZ (sigh...) Manufacturer offered me a $2.00 rebate and I quote: "To avoid hassle, we would like to refund $2 for you as a special discount and you just keep it, will this work? It will save our time." (again, sigh)

I found that if you turn the am steps to 9 and then back to 10 it'll go thru am 1710. Weird bug.

Yes, mine was 1620, then changed when I was filming a band scan showing that feature...surprised by it! awesome radio.

I'm not sure about this, but it's possible what you were hearing was the bass radiator on the back being muffled by the red tablecloth. If you look at the back, the venting holes are slightly raised which could cause somewhat of a seal on a flat table surface. This could cause perceived distortion. But I trust Todd when he says it has good sound in person.
