when my dog passed away he waited for me until I got home from work. My dog is 17 yrs. old and he died of old age and I can tell that may dog is sick and dying coz he has not eating well and also, he can't control his bowel and every time I walk him even in the middle of the road, he will just poop. And also, his body cannot stand straight, and he will fall down. I was so embarrassed picking up his poop in the middle of the road and also his breath smells bad. That are the things I find out about Dogs when they are sick near to death. When My dog Died, I was with him, and I even talk to him and said Iam here and I know that you are tired already and you can rest now. He Look at me and he took his last breath and he died Peacefully.
