I have Fables on Vinyl and it will always be a treasure. The release of A&A was the highlight of my 2011. It's so cool when two things I really dig come together like this. You have great taste!

CD's have better quality than streaming (even if the streaming offers a higher bit depth, bit rate, and/or sample rate) and a lot of downloadable digital files. A lot of audiophiles still buy them due to that reason.
@BehindTheGreenEyes Жыл бұрын
@Funky Finger Productions Agreed. I had about 400 cds from the time I was a child until 2017 when I had to move and downsize a LOT. Broke my heart to get rid of so much....There is nothing like sitting down, putting in a good cd and letting everything float away.
@socaranectien1933 Жыл бұрын
@@FredCracklin how are cds better even with the reasons you listed?
@ShadowAngel-lt8nw2 ай бұрын
@@socaranectien1933 1. Way better audio quality. All you get on streaming is destructive compression formats that remove a lot of audio information and negatively affects the music. 2. You can get the original, unaltered versions on CD. All you get on streaming for older albums are modern day "remasters" or worse remasters that are also remixes (like Megadeth) and worse, they might even start to censor songs like they already do on radio all the time. Remasters in 99% of all cases suck because they are just compressed to hell and way too loud to the point of having constant digital clipping. 3. You actually own something, i know that's a wild concept to kids who grew up owning nothing, because they just pay monthly fees for access. best part of that? nobody can take anything away that you own, unlike streams where removing or censoring stuff is a sad reality by now. 4. It's just a way better experience to grab a album, load the disc (whatever format) into the player and actually listen to it, best done while looking through this weird thing called booklet, that probably is foreign to you. That way, you actually experience music. Most kids today don't listen to music, for them it's just background noise, 'enjoyed' either through crappy speakers or worse, blutooth earbuds which not only have shit quality, but wireless means a lot of data loss on top. The concept of an album, let alone an album that tells a story through its songs (like Moongoose by Camel) or has them all connected (like Dark Side of the Moon for example) is of course also totally foreign to kids who don't even grasp that that's a thing, they just randomly click through 1000 songs, probably don't even finish them before they click on the next one because after 30 seconds they are already 'bored'. Good enough reasons? Definitely for everybody with even just half a working brain.

Man, this honestly takes mental fortitude. At least for me and my ilk, and I'm sure it affects most people to some degree. Especially stuff with sentimental value. I've gone through purges of my collections a few times and it's like pulling teeth, and more than half the time I end up backing out and changing my mind. The closest I've done to this type of purge was with my movie collection, and all I did there was get rid of the cases and put the discs into a couple of disc books in order to have them take up less space (keeping my favorite movies' cases and keeping them on the shelf). Even just throwing out those cases hurt. I salute your practicality and guts, John. It's no mean feat to do something like this.

Huge Alter Bridge fan here. You will be shocked to hear that they are very much still alive and well. Their overall sound has changed a bit over the years, but they have actually released SEVEN studio albums and are still going strong. They release a new album every 3 or so years, and their last one was in 2022 (Pawns & Kings). If the name Myles Kennedy rings a bell with anyone, that's because he was the lead singer on the Slash albums Apocalyptic Love and World on Fire in 2012 and 2014. Highly recommend those albums as well as Alter Bridge as a whole.

Albums that are worth something are non-mainstream albums (like a ton of black metal albums, when i look that my release of Storm of the Light's Bane from Dissection is worth close to 100€ nowadays) , albums that are long out of print and special releases and of course great pressings, like most original japan pressings or original west german productions, since they always had the best quality and the best cd mastering

4:08:28 of course you’re insightful, entertaining, and fun, John! I admit I skipped here from the description; “existential crisis” always piques my curiosity. It’s relatable. 😂 However, much as I love your presentation and such, I don’t have… {looks at total time} WOAH. Um. THAT many hours to watch. So, respectfully, I’ll refer to the Google sheet for the condensed version, but thank you for taking the time to present all these!!

I still collect CD's actually, and though I'm only going for Deathmetal/Deathcore, I did a few months back pickup everything by Senses Fail since they're my favorite pop-punk band. There's something about physical media that makes me happy. EDIT: Also to tack on, since I saw you have most of TBDM's albums, Rest in peace Trevor, such an amazing vocalist gone too soon.

@@anywhere_but_here you are absolutely right about their firsts two albums, everything else after ranges from 7/10-8-10. Also i think ill go check out save the day now, ill take your word for it, considering you have good taste with senses fail

Devin Townsend is such a diverse musician. If you do want to try again i would recommend Deconstruction, Z2, Accelerated Evolution amongst others. He can span across all genres although i love his heavy stuff more. Absolute powerhouse live. So cool to see your diverse range of tastes. Some solid decisions in your collection ❤

Ah man, just saw Fair to Midland on the spreadsheet! They're an overlooked band, wish they'd been bigger. For context, I'm from England and they were supporting Dir en Grey on their first ever UK tour in...2007 I think? Crazy way to discover them.

Man, I gotta say, what an insane collection this is.. loved seeing a lot of great metal and rock acts in there. The Black Dahlia Murder, In Flames, Metallica, Katatonia, Agalloch, Children of Bodom, 10 Years, Tool, etc. I’m 19 years old and I’m currently collecting a whole load of cds as well as vinyl records (and even some cassettes), got probably 300+ albums in my collection at the moment, I’m not entirely sure, I lost complete track of it lol. But anyways, hope the best comes out of selling these for ya man, loving the content as always. 🤘🔥
