What are the advantages of using this camera over an iPhone 12pro? Maybe low light performance? Maybe slightly more Bokeh? Overall tho seems like an iPhone would be slightly better choice. 1) phone is always on you. 2) Better battery performance 3) iPhone can go places a Camera can’t as easily like underwater or restricted places. 4) iPhones rarely overheat. There might be a slight trade off for image quality but….idk. Great review interesting perspective!

I used it for the exact reasons you mentioned. This camera is a total beast. The active steady shot is excellent, the 4K (which will last forever if you change the heat settings) looks really good and the F1.8 is perfect for indoor use (and the ND is great for outside.) And the macro ability is pretty amazing. I wish the batteries last longer and the ND was a little stronger but all in all it’s an amazing little camera. I highly recommend the wide angle adapters. Hi Peter, Nice broll! I’ve had the ZV1 for awhile and here are some accessories to address what the cons you mentioned in the video: - For wider FOV, get the Ulanzi WL-1 which makes the 24mm to 18mm. The lens adapter that comes with it allows you to add filters like Freewell, Polar Pro, or other cheaper filters as the internal during bright days may not be enough - Battery: get the Ulanzi BG-2 which is rated at 6800mAh or on Amazon they sell the BG-3 (10000mAh) and BG-4 (5000mAh), etc - Cage: you have UURig, Ulanzi, and Smallrig options - Pair those above with your PGY Tech Mantis tripod and cold shoe and you got yourself a nice vlogging setup - Zoom: for more reach, you always have the clear image zoom. Here’s some measurements of the FOV that I wrote down: UltraHD 24p crop: 1.094 Active stabilization: 1.185 Combined: 1.094 x 1.185 = 1.29639 ZV-1 sensor size: 13.2mm x 8.8mm FF sensor size: 36mm x 24mm Crop factor for ZV-1 to FF (ff/ZV-1): 36/13.2 = 24/8.8 = 30/11 = 2.727 ZV-1 Crop with 24p + active stabilization: 9.4mm x 1.29639 x 2.727 = 33.2mm FF-equivalent 25.7mm x 1.29639 x 2.727 = 90.9mm FF-equivalent With the Ulanzi WL-1 Wide Angle/Macro Lens Adapter (0.75x), if you add UltraHD 24p crop + active stabilization crop, you get a FOV of: 33.2mm x 0.75 = 24.95mm FF-equivalent 90.9mm x 0.75 = 68.175mm FF-equivalent Otherwise if you keep it simple (with no active stabilization) and shooting with UltraHD 24p crop (1.094) x 24mm x 0.75, you get 19.692mm which is wide enough for vlogging. Then in post, you can use Catalyst Browse to stabilize your footage but most people may not want to take this extra step.

I have the ZV-1 and I really dig it. It's convenient and has all the basic essentials you need to start vlogging or making home videos. It's always in my backpack or pocket wherever I go. My only complaint for it is that I wish it has a wider field of view. Not a necessity, but have picture profile like S-Cinetone on it would be neat. I wonder if Sony will ever make a lens mount for their point and shoot. Where you can swap a variety of collapsible prime or zoom lenses. Like Sony can give you a kit set of 24-70mm but you can swap it out for either a 10-16mm, 16-35mm, 70-200mm, or even 24-200mm (like rx100 7) for trade off of aperture.

I use the ZV1 as vlogging camera as well over my FX3 or A7 III most of the time since I have a 18 mo old toddler that I need to be able to save from falling as well as hold a camera. I added the uurig R054 plate to the bottom so I could attached the handle and still access the battery door which has been great. I also added the Ulanzi WL-1 which is the wide angle lens attachment which is a must in my opinion. The only downside is it won't fit in your pocket or pouch anymore. I'll sacrifice that though for the extra focal length.

I just returned from reserving a ZV1 in a store and I will be trading my EOS 700D. Focusing has always been a problem in my studio (no windows, dark acoustic foam on the walls that sucks out all the light, etc.) and from what I have seen online, focusing will no longer be an issue with the ZV1. I would never record video using my 700D when performing live as it is massive, but I definitely will with the ZV1. As you said, the best camera is the one you have with you. :)

Glad to see that you appreciate this little SONY ZV-1 ... compared to your SONY A7SIII and its wide optics, and Canon Micro mandatory. I also have this SONY ZV-1, and I admit being very happy with it, because it gives an excellent image, the sound is good, even with wind. On the other hand, the angle of view is quite tight in VLOG, but on the other hand, I was able to film as much as I wanted, not limited to 5 minutes per video ... in any case, in 4K 25fps ... When I shoot videos in 1080p 100fps, I only take short shots, so no worries. But it is clear that a good VLOG camera is a camera that you have on hand all the time, to film often and easily. Have you activated ND Filter Mode? what do you think ? Yes, the Battery is very limited, and suddenly, I have 3 batteries, and it's nickel. thanks Peter.

Interesting video. May I ask: If you shoot full HD(1920x1080) is the resulting clip a bit on the 'soft' side. I have the RX100 Mk3, shot a 50 sec clip and was somewhat disappointed with the video because of this 'softness' which I assume must come from the downsampling. The video from my Sony PJ810 (full HD only) is streets ahead - sharp and crisp from a very small sensor. I'm a bit reticent in buying this ZV1 - > Cheers

I have a Sony ZV1 video coming out tomorrow too. I have the Sony a7c and I find myself reaching for the ZV-1 for all the reasons you mentioned. It is so convenient to use. Do you have a affiliate link for the man bag to store it?

@Peter Lidgren are you using any picture profile with the ZV-1?

Cost & maintenance are two things to keep in mind. Maintenance gets forgotten often until it’s time for repairs. Great video brother!

the ZV1 is the perfect on the go camera , for vloggers the wide angle adapter you can get will help with those tight shots

The ZV-1 is my first camera I got and still my main vlogging camera. I am very impressed by the quality and even the HLG grading. Not sure about the 5 min cap you’re taking about. I do talking head vlogging almost in 4K all the time and my longest I’ve recorded continuously was 50 minutes on 1 charge 🤷🏽♂️. Perhaps switch auto power-off from standard to high? If you haven’t done so.

I got 20 minutes continuous 4K recording out of it before it died, but will have a look at the overheating setting again. Was sure that I turned it off 😂

@@PeterLindgren1 either way, great camera and a good review. I loved the video you posted on IG of you playing by yourself 😂.

@@PeterLindgren1 oh by the way, ambient temperatures also play a big role. When I did the recording it was a lot cooler.

Can you put an ND filter on that little lens? Or do you have to crank up your shutter or apeture when shooting outside?

I just shoot in all auto when vlogging 👌🏼

I can totally relate to this. I have an A7iii and I find I use my iPhone and Insta360 more because they're lightweight and compact. Plus the A7iii doesn't have a flippy screen, so can't see the framing.

As the saying goes, the best camera is the one you have with you all the time. That's either your cell phone or a compact camera. Can't wait to try out a 1 inch sensor camera on a cell phone someday (which might be sooner than expected).

Hello! Do you use standard profile to record this video? Or slog? Hlg? The quality is amazing!!

Hm, since I have an old A5100 fully functioning for that running & gunning (apart from having to record audio separately...) the ZV-1 isn't actual for me, but I did recommend it to several friends because of all the points you mentioned. It is a very very nice camera.
