You made it about her, it wasn't what you guys wanted and it is the day I am dreading most with my boy Otis (fawn boxer) This was a beautiful tribute to her and I bawled my eyes out. I'm so sorry. This is the exact same thing that happened with our German shepherd Max. The hardest part is seeing them struggling but not wanting to let go because you can't imagine your life without them. I'm thankful for every memory that we have of him and the fact that he does live on in our hearts. 10+ years later and we still talk about him. So know that Stella will always be with you no matter what and that one of the best final gifts you could give her was was for her to no longer be in pain.❤

Austin, I could NEVER hate you! You made the kindest decision for Stella. The same thing happened to our first dog, a golden retriever. I grew up with him. I was 15 & he was 16 when we had to let him go. He was doing fine, then his legs just gave out trying to get to the back door to go to the bathroom. The look on his face was heartbreaking & as a family we knew we had to do the kindest thing for him. He was "fine", then an hour later, we had to make the hardest decision we'd ever made for him! I went with my Dad to the vet, but then had to wait outside for my Dad. The drive home was the worst drive home ever. 24 years on from then, I look back on all the awesome memories we have of him. He was the smartest, gentlest, nuttiest dog ever! He stopped burglars getting into our house, he protected us kids, he was patient & gentle with us kids, & the only dog I know to continue running around after a heart attack when he was 10yrs old! He came running back with a cough, but otherwise acted fine! You will have awesome memories of Stella & you can hold on to those. I know it's not the same, but over time, you will adjust to your new normal. I'm so sorry you had to do this. But you've done the kindest thing you could for Stella.
