Very touching video. It is a beautiful house. I know all the areas you drove through, I grew up on the other end of the lake, graduated from Lower Lake in ‘83 and I still live in the County.

hey do you feel safe in lakeport? I read the violent crime stats are unusually high but it's difficult to imagine a small town like that being all that dangerous. What do you think after a couple years?
@TheBuellerBunch
@TheBuellerBunch 5 ай бұрын
@@billyb4790 I did reply to another one of your comments, just FYI. But I feel way safer there then any place I have ever lived. Without hestation I would live there, its just a little isolating, kind of, with some services you may need. But a relaxed safe town, it is. Summers bring in a lot of visitors due to the lake. I worked for the police department there years ago, and the summer is where most issues come out. They do roll up the sidewalks after 8pm (LOL) so nightlife is low to zero. If you are concerned, rent a place and see if its for you. Good luck, but I think its a safe bet to live there on the safety concerns.

Nice video, I really enjoyed it. It was a trip down memory lane for me too. I lived in Lakeport from 1980 through 2003. I've ridden all around there both on horses and dirt bikes. Play basketball with Bigfoot in that very School gym. I believe he worked in the force with you. I own the motorcycle shop in town MC Repair for about 15 years. Worked at lake parts for several years. Anyway thank you for the video

Thanks for watching. Yes, I did work with Gene McGaugh aka Bigfoot. He was a big reason I went into Law Enforcement. Such a nice gentle man with a heart as big as he was. Sadly he passed away early in life, but his memory and reputation with all of us is well known. Was your MC shop at the end of town out by Piedmont Lumber? I still ride MC's. I used to own 5 but now I am down to just one now.
@shredmas

@@TheBuellerBunch yes it was by Piedmont lumber across from what used to be the Nissan dealer and later became airport Auto. After the gentleman I rented my building from passed away Piedmont bought the property rented from them. Yes Gene was a very big hearted man. I would say it was around 1999 the last time I played basketball against his team. They had me guarding him what a joke I was at that. I live in southern Oregon now. I don't know if you remember Steve and Joanne Vaughn they own the pet country pet shop. Their son Steve Jr lives in Medford too. I'm up in a little town called shady Cove. I'll probably go visit Lakeport this spring. I do miss the place from time to time. I too still ride dirt bikes. We've got some great riding here and it's a little less restricted than it became down in California.

Such a small world. My uncle lived in shady cove for years, Bob Farris and his wife Jean. Bob passed away a few years ago. So I know Shady Cove. Right on the Rogue River. Yeah, there is really no places to ride dirt bikes anymore with all the restrictions in CA you have to drive hours to ride, but LC did have its secret spots to go. @@shredmas

@@TheBuellerBunch yeah I didn't know them. I did know Dean Ferris who owned the robin Hill restaurant. I used to play music with his son Don. Nice work! I grew up in Clearlake Highlands (now the City of Clearlake). Graduated from Lower Lake High in 1968. 47 (or so) in our class. Took me a few years to figure out that it was a great place to grow up. I still live in Clearlake. I knew some of the old timers growing up, they had some amazing tales....to wit: In the early days of motorized trucks, they hauled pears over the Hopland Grade, and many drivers had to leap for their lives as the brakes would fail, and the trucks would crash over the cliffs. One gentleman drove his Dad's horse drawn freight wagon to Calistoga from Lower Lake, all through his teen years. Their hired man always took 3 days, one down, a day loading freight at the train station, and a day back. Mr. Pearce (whom Pearce Field was named after) made the trip in only (!!) two days, so the hired man lost that cushy gig LOL (To those not familiar with our area, the ride from Lower Lake to Calistoga now takes about 45 minutes)

Wow, I lived in house right down the hill as a kid on Orchard in the 80's. Sometimes we would ride our bikes down the hill that goes up to your house. Once I was riding a big wheel down the hill with no shoes and got going so fast that I couldn't stop the pedals. Skinned my feet up really bad. I think there were horses unless I am thinking of another house. If it was that house and you had an electric fence, my friend dared me to grab the electric fence and told me it was never on. I did and It was on! You gotta learn somehow I guess. Oh good times playing outside all the time, riding bikes all over town. It was a good childhood.

@@billyb4790 Honestly had to look up the "crime wave" for the stats. I know its a pretty darn safe place. Now Clearlake is another story. However, what I saw on the crime stats was surprising, but not really concerning. Being a retired Law Enforcement Officer myself, the stats I saw indicated that the crimes listed were more on the low side, but the "per capita" side it looks high with most being assaults. That could mean a lot of different things. Its a small town, with a very safe small town vibe. During the summer, there are a lot of events that bring in a lot of outside visitors too. So a lot to be factored in. I would say its a real safe town.

@@TheBuellerBunch yeah I just went to visit. Didn't see any bars on windows or scary people. It looked very nice (but hot!!!) I do get the impression drugs are making their way into the town, as are a lot of smaller towns around the country. So this may up the stats, most probably among users themselves. It's a sad situation, but so far seems to be isolated and obscure. Thanks for your input.
