Weddings aren’t the time for a statement. Edit: ffs read what I wrote and not what you want me to be saying just so you can argue. I said IF YOU KNOW YOUR DAUGHTER AND KNOW THAT SHE WILL REGRET IT OR BE UNHAPPY LATER. 46 years ago my husband came with me too pick my wedding dress which i still love now. Then we went and picked his suit tie ect . My mum was happy too arrange everything else bridesmaid dresses cars cake flowers the lot . I got married at a renaissance fair. My parents wore costumes. My sister got married at a more traditional venue. My parents wore traditional formal attire. It’s nice having parents that are supportive of whatever their kid wants at their wedding.

I LOVE ren fairs! I worked at the Arizona one for 5 years, it was wonderful! getting married while every one is looking wonderful in those dresses and costumes must be fantastic and so much fun for everyone.

And it worked out - the MIL was supportive of a pink dress (which is pretty amazing considering she wanted traditional), the bride didn't end up wearing a veil and the MIL was fine with that, and the bride wore the MIL's pearls. Can't see where exactly she didn't support the bride! She clearly loves her daughter in law. Wish my MIL had been like that!

Go by yourself and pay for your own dress. Then you can get what you like. That's what I did, and 26 years later -- no regrets. My mom didn't really like my gown, but that was OK. I paid for it, so I picked what I liked.

My mother made the gowns for both my older sisters. I shopped alone for my own from my own pocket. To this day, I don't know why there was a difference. Strangely enough, nobody raised the subject.

I think updo tiara combo, even without the veil would have looked even more bridal, BUT with the small ceremony and the location, I think her choices were just as good. Also, I think wearing MIL's pearls was sweet, and they looked lovely in her and with the dress.

Nice dress but not bridal! Even for her carribean marriage was too much! Not the perfect choice! Her hair weren't good either... It's a shame when you try so hard but you don't get the result you imagined! But..she said she was happy so... But me if I was her guest I wouldnt say she was a stunning bride... Normally, I would say if the bride doesn’t want a veil, then she doesn’t need a veil, but in this case, I think the veil made the dress look more bridal. Btw, I’m 51 years old, have four sons and no daughters, and I’m wondering why I keep watching SYTTD! Also, if I were a young bride today, I’d absolutely LOVE to get married in a blush gown.

Why take an entourage? Take one or two trustworthy friends who know what you want and will tell you when a dress doesn't suit you. It's your wedding and your dress. Don't ask everybody and their pet parrot what they think you should wear! Spring it on them as you walk down the aisle.

Perfect choice gown, style, fit, and location. White was too harsh with her coloring. Tough beans on what others want. Some women are too keen on putting their own stamp on someone else's wedding. I don't think the pearl necklace flattered the bride at all, but it was a small enough concession.

Beautiful dress but not for a tropical, destination wedding. Like others have said, without a veil, the dress looks like a prom dress. It doesn't read bridal. I also think it looks too heavy for a tropical wedding outside. I thought the bride would go for a more flowy, light & less beaded dress. But she went with what she liked best & that's what matters most. If she's happy, then good for her.

Both Jessica and the dress are stunning. I married in purple and lilac, no veil. It was my choice and I had support from all. I'm widowed now, people need to remember that the colour of a bride's dress is small fry compared with the marriage. I have a permanent reminder of the day and of my late husband.
