At this point, it doesn't really matter what other artists/people say. SB19 is successful. The others are still struggling to get that recognition. The reactors in this video are in that position, still struggling to get even the slightest recognition. So their opinion, they can express, but their opinions won't get in the way of SB19 success. Their opinions count for nothing compared to the success of SB19.

I know this sounds extreme- but when the woman in the video said "I'm actually getting a very Stray Kids feeling on this, right off the bat" I felt that the comments sounded as absurd, ridiculous, and childish as saying that every time Mariah Carey belts out a song "I get a very Whitney Houston feeling on this." Truth be told, this was how the rivalry between the two artists started until the comparison became so cliche it just died a natural death. Now, let's be honest. Maybe we felt tempted to say things like these before... so we should know what OTHERS really have in mind when they say such things. But the words INAUTHENTIC and FAKE are just INSENSITIVE when these are not just ordinary listeners but artists saying it- artists who are very much aware that SB19 is an all-Filipino group. Are they expecting Filipinos to dance and sing like aliens to be "authentic" enough? And yet when they hear something different and unexpected, they think it's hilarious just like the way SB19 pronounces their words. Maybe they don't care about the slightest possibility that Philippine English can be just as different and "authentic" as Australian, Jamaican, Indian, Korean, or Thai English. There are as many Englishes as there are native and non-native speakers using the language as their first, second, or third language. Then there's another comment that SB19 is "trying so hard" to come out as "hard," but they're "not hard." That, my folks, is downright BS. Do we need big biceps and huge abs to come out as "hard" to you, guys? May I infer what "authentic" means from our reactors' own videos and music? For one, I noticed that their gloves and black net stockings look as "authentic" as costumes worn by Black Canary and most of our DC Marvel superheroes. Their rap is so "authentic" too, gosh. It's the first time I've heard so many "oh baby" lines in a song. And that bathtub- yeah... it's the first time a bathtub was EVER used in a music video- that's for sure. ^_^ I'm sure these lines and props have DEEPER meanings than the lyrics and props used in "What" and "Alab." Yeah, right. Who cares about Pablo fusing all those brilliant PUNS (like "What" for "watawat" and MAPA for "ma" and "pa" or the map) to make SB19 songs thematic? Let's just sing "oh baby." ^_^ As for their other "condescending" comments like "hey I tried to get into it, but I just can't" and "oohhh, how cute" are no different from what immature fans from rival camps would say if they already have a bias, are checking out a group in the same music category/genre that they know they won't like anyway because they already have a bias- but want to come across as honest, objective, and "nice." But here's what's FUNNY- If they're using K-pop and other boy bands as a standard for P-pop then they're like kids saying they don't like bananas because apples taste better. Bananas can't be apples- and it's not the banana's fault. If bananas make them cringe because it's not their kind of fruit- then even the BEST banana would be a huge disappointment to them Then I remembered- even Madonna didn't like Lady Gaga very much. Kanye West made fun of Taylor Swift. A lot of artists didn't like what their fellow artists were doing- but only Elton John was objective enough to say he didn't like Madonna because you can't be an artist if you can't sing live or if you just lip sync when the audience deserves better. Let's just admit it, folks- entertainment is subjective and personal. No matter how popular some other idol group is, if it's not to your liking, then no one can force you to like it. But the catch is- entertainment preferences aren't like gadget preferences. A bad review of a product is justified if the intention is to warn customers of defects or inefficiency in the product and to make sure they get their money's worth. In music it's just TASTE that differentiates one product/creation from the rest- so a BAD review MAKES SENSE only if there's a STANDARD of QUALITY that's performance-based, which must be maintained- regardless of the subjective appeal of the music/pop idol group (e.g. BlackPink audiences complaining about the "idols" making a lot of mistakes during concerts when the ticket costs $699). But being turned-off by Ken because you feel like he's a poor imitation of a Stray Kid member whose "vibe" seems to be your personal standard is just- UNFAIR. That's like saying "Oh, god, Dreamworks- stop putting songs in your animation, it's so Disney." It's like asking Morisette to stop belting out songs because she'll never reach Dimash's high notes (that comparison is not just absurd but cruel). Looking at the brightER side of things- most artists who have been unfairly compared to big names during the start of their career usually end up outdoing their rivals. Let's just hope SB19 gets vindicated as always. Again, sorry for the long comment- and more power to you, CasualChuck~~😇😇😇

I'm American and all I can say is that racism and bigotry is still a huge reason. You think most Americans really respect or understand kpop? Nah. Most of the time kpop gets noticed here because of visuals and because they fit that stereotype of what an attractive Asian "should be". More western less Asian. It is what it is. Deep down these artists in particular are insecure and actually feel threatened by artists elsewhere that challenge western music/popularity. You see these feelings the further you go deep South. Also it has to do with the fact most Americans all think Asia is just East Asia and f*cking Bali. Anyone remotely resembling an East Asian person is automatically either Chinese, Japanese or Korean. If they aren't they feel surprised and just think they are all the same

Hi Chuck! About a year ago, I made a very long comment on their reaction to the boys' What's MV because I felt the need to. Their reactions were very annoying and for a silent viewer who barely engages on the comment section, I had to air out my thought. I was just a new fan back then but I had this urge to defend our boys because this bunch right here seems to have big opinions on artists when they can't even break the glass ceiling of the music industry as artist themselves. That comment of mine caught A'tin's attention and posted it on Twitter and backed my comment because they have felt it too. I had to say something, just like what you are doing now. Actally the singing while rapping thing is largely a OPM thing. Most rappers in other countries don't do that (except American old school rappers from like the 80s-90s). Filipino rappers do that singing melody the most to this day and it evolved. Kpop does that too but it's not common. It's only known or thought to be uniquely kpop because kpop is more popular.

I was initially upset about this but then I thought, I needed to step back and consider other people's point of view without my emotions clouding my opinion. I had to ask myself this, "What matters most to me now?" I love to listen to music. I have a wide range of music styles/genres that I like but I'm quite picky when it comes to my personal list of songs that I really love. I am my own award giving body when it comes to songs that will make it to my playlist. Currently, most SB19 songs if not all are in my playlist. Why? It's because I gravitate towards music or songs that have more substance, songs that speaks to me in a meaningful way, songs that I feel are intellectually conceptualized with a lot of time and effort put into it, music that elevates, inspires and touch people's lives. I may consider the melody, beat or style (genre) but I go beyond that. I also look up to artists that not only have the talent and skills but have the right attitude and character that I can admire and look up to. And so, SB19 versus Riverse? No doubt. SB19 wins.

Our boys are carving their own paths and let us light their paths with love, tolerance and kindness. Yaan niyo na si rIVerse. Comparisons are always unfair. While it is not inherently bad, one of the parties will always end up inferior against an individual’s personal biases. After watching this video, I had to pause and ask myself (maybe you can ask yourself these questions too): - What was my initial reaction when I saw SB19’s viral video? - How did I feel about SB19 and their music? - Did I compare them to a Kpop group? - Up to this point in time, am I constantly comparing them to any or my fave Kpop group? - What does SB19 mean to me? - What do I like about SB19?

The commentary about the overenunciation is something that can be made more gracefully. We like to enunciate every syllable, it's just something we do in Philippine English. We don't do a lot of silent letters. SB19 touched on this in the Front Row interview. I've seen other reactors mention (not necessarily with SB19 but other groups, too) that the phrasing in English sometimes sounds awkward to them but in a way that sounds like they understand that's their issue, not a problem with the group. Because they're used to hearing English one way, so it stands out. So they prefer hearing the Tagalog or other Filipino language parts of the song. But they do it in a way that shows understanding that it is a function of the group being authentic. It's the sound of Filipinos speaking English. It's how we cut up syllables, it's where we put emphasis and pauses. Sometimes we codeswitch to something more "American" sometimes we don't, neither is inauthentic. It's something Filipinos do without trying to be something they're not. The accents aren't put on and everyone secretly sounds like Jo Koy's impression of his mom, it's just that's how we speak. I admit I've sometimes personally listened to some groups lines in English and my thought is "That sounded very Filipino." But as a Filipino, the observation isn't meant to mean I think it is therefore bad. I think the problem for me with that particular comment is that it was dangerously close to being culturally insensitive out of being uninformed, that it was almost like being told sounding like that, the way many Filipinos would sound normally in English, is incorrect when it isn't. It is harmful because we already do that to ourselves, we don't need others to reinforce that. I think it's good that SB19, BGYO, 1st.One, Alamat, etc don't really try to "sound American" when they do English, and when it seems like they do it's in the service of the song like some of - as an example - Justin's lines in Live it Up. Otherwise, Justin just has his authentic Filipino accent. They somehow homed in on the accent - one of the things that demonstrates they're being themselves - as an example of why it sounded inauthentic.

I used to watch their "video reactions" and there are Filipino artists that they truly applauded and praised. They even watched KZ' Tandingan's concert, can't remember if, in Canada or US, they even interacted with the Filipino concertgoers well. I guess they are just being honest about how they feel about SB19. As a follower of SB19, of course, we might feel a bit off with what they commented, but as a life rule, you cannot please everyone. Let's not feel bad about it and not lose the momentum of supporting SB19. For sure our mahalima is doing their BEST to be the BEST of who they are and true to their craft and artistry. If I can try to understand where they are coming from... A lot of A'TINs became fans of SB19 on an emotional level, because we understand the lyrics, what they want to convey, and their emotional journey to get to where they're at today. But in the sense of just casually listening to one of their songs for the first time even without understanding what the song is about, it may not be something you'd bop to, and say, "let me add this to my playlist". Millennials and Zoomers prefer to listen to beats, rhythm, bops, groove, something they can bob their heads to, rather than what the message of the song is or how good the vocals are. Even though many k-pop songs are mostly auto-tuned and have meaningless lyrics and onomatopoeic words like "boom boom, bang bang"; listeners don't seem to care. This is why so many people, even many filipinos, like k-pop because it's easy to bop to. To be honest, some of SB19 songs are rhythmically confusing for me because of the many rhythmical changes in one song, like in What? and even Bazinga. But anyway, these reactors are already biased and closed-minded. They think k-pop is the the standard, yet SB19 can't be k-pop because it would be "inauthentic". So I'm so confused because to me, SB19 does NOT sound k-pop at all whatsoever. If they did, then shouldn't they like them? I don't get it. But you know they are already biased against SB19 and so they just say whatever crap that comes out of their mind. Perhaps if they understand the lyrics, the message, the SB19 journey, maybe they would like them, even just a little bit, maybe.

Even heard that they were at the Billboard Charts for 7 weeks, but never listened to them as I thought that they were just trying to follow popular Kpop styles. But when I heard their song Mapa -- I knew from their lyrics that these are serious artists, serious about their craft. Why, they were able to move me. I was able to catch their emotions from the way they wrote the song and how they executed the song to convey their sentiments. From then on, I got hooked. SB19 carries with them Filipino values and upbringing and they display these in their craft. These are just some of my thoughts. Just expressing mine too.

I've watched all their RVs to KZ's performances in The Singer. This was way before I've known SB19. So when I got introduced to our Mahalima and became an A'tin, I started watching different reactors to SB19's songs. This brought me back to RIVERSE. I knew already that they were musicians, so I was kinda thrown off by their negative reactions to What? And then, this again with Bazinga. I wanted to leave a comment in their RV to Bazinga (bec I really had a lot to say.) But then again, why even bother. I think they're so into KPop Idols that I have serious doubts they'll ever appreciate our boys. As we all know, we can't please everybody.

Well for me, as long as any artist conveys the message that they wanted to send through their craft, then that's what you call authentic. Because every form of art right now is pretty much a copy or inspired by decades of accumulated influence from past works of art. Then if what they mean with being inauthentic is because they've seen or heard those styles from other artists before, then no artist right now or in the future would be authentic, including themselves.

So smart of you to bring to the surface a truth that admittedly most A'Tin is afraid to confront and even harder to accept...that is not everyone will be a believer in their talents, some will be dismissive of their artistry and many will not be appreciative of their craft. Yet just like what you said this reality should not be a source of bitterness, resentment or worst hatred towards those who will never take Mahalima to their heart. In the end what's important and what counts is for the PPop Kings to remain thriving and becoming more excellent artists and to finally realize the goals that they have set for themselves. That will only be possible if all true A'Tin never tire of accompanying their stan on their journey which undoubtedly will be more arduous and difficult as they become more global in their reach. As they say the climb to the top is the hardest because it is where the slope is steepest! Thank you for reminding us of what we should be accepting of and what to be grateful for as an A'Tin.
