For me is about 4. I'm from Poland and I find Slovenian pretty similar. Some words are speaking the same (pivo,voda, levo), others are similar (dober dan = dzień dobry, ne vem=nie wiem). We also have difficult letters and combination of letters (ż, ś, sz, rz). I'm going to Slovenia in about two weeks first time and I can't wait:). Thanks for great video:)

I'm actually flabbergasted. Sloven language is so incredibly similar to Slovak, that I understand almost everything effortlessly. Some words are actually identical. We must have been one tribe back in the ancient past, before we diverged into two distinct groups. I feel much deeper connection to this version of Slavic modality thanthe Polish or Russian. Fascinating. I might go for a trip to Slovenia one day to test this further.

I think it is a beautiful language. Since the Coronavirus pandemic hit the US recently, I might as well use my time of ordered “shelter in place” at home to do something productive. Best wishes and please keep making videos.

I loved this video...even though I know these words and phrases (after 9 yrs of living in Ljubljana)...it's still nice to hear the proper pronounciation. It would be really nice to have another language vlog of Slovene language that is used on the street as opose to the language we learn in school or form a book. I was listening to 2 girls talking on the bus today and even though they were talking Slovene, it was very hard to understand what they were saying as they changed a lot of the words just as the English do between friends. Ok, I shouldn't have been listening ha ha but I find the differences fascinating. On a scale, I have found Slovene off the chart in level of difficulty, about a 11....masculine/feminine and neutral are hard to master....Having to remember certain items as being from a certain sex and therefore change the word slightly is hard.
@SandraPotisek6 жыл бұрын
I can't even imagine how hard it must be for a foreigner trying to master our language, especially when you throw all the dialects into the mix as well. Plus, the proper grammar is sometimes tricky even for us native speakers. 🙈 Yeah, might be an interesting video to film! Although I feel like each town has their own 'street language', haha. I for example come from Zasavje, and we have so many words people in other parts of Slovenia never use... most are derived from German (due to the area's coal mining history).

How do you pronounce the "Lj"?
@paulfellowes48793 жыл бұрын
@@destinimizani3401 It's an almost silent 'J' and sounds like 'Lu' the sound of a 'J' in Slovene for me is 'Ye' as in Jesenkova, but in Ljubljana the dialect is not to pronounce the 'J' after L at all..So Lubljana. it all depends where you are!

I am a Slavic person from Latvia and I have big interest about Slovenia and Slovenian language. It is both amazing and shocking how much similar my native language and Slovenian has, but at the same time how different they are… They say only Slavic languages have that specific that knowing one Slavic language may be a barrier to learn another, because of “interpreter’s false friends”. As to me, “interpreter’s false friends” aren’t that big problem, my biggest problem is accents. Thank you for your efforts, watching your videos help understand better Slovenian pronouncement and accents. It isn’t easy, but not that difficult as I used to think. Hvala!
