i used to have one that i raised from a baby till couple years old... in the meantime moved in together with someone... she was scared of it and eventually convinced me to sell him... this was about 7 or 8 years ago.. i live alone again.. (so much better haha) and been thinking alot about how i regretted selling him... until few days ago.. i saw him on a marketplace😮 he's over 7 foot now.. holy 💩 So i immediately texted the guy and told him "hey im the one you bought him from.. and i'd love to take him back!!!" So... yeah.. my baby is coming back ❤❤❤❤ it'll be my first "big snake" since he was so small still when he left me.. my other 2 snakes are ballpythons.. so im excited!!!!

Growing up on the east coast of Australia i am very familiar with these beautiful critters . On several family picnics my dad would catch one and bring it over to us kids to look at and touch . Our neighbors had several aviaries and would often call my dad , or later my nephew , to collect a well fed carpet snake(as we called them) from their bird houses . My nephew bought home a hatchling that somehow found its way into his lunch room at work . He became a very popular family pet for the next few years . He grew from around 15cm to almost a metre in lenght before disappearing from his latched (not locked) enclosure. We think he was probably stolen.

My biggest regret is one you mentioned. I listened to a ball python breeder that said stay away from carpets, they’re nippy and bite all the time. Now 7 carpets deep(mix of Inland, Bredli, Diamond), I can say they’re absolutely not nippy at all, and polar opposite to his statement. Hands down carpets are my favorite snakes and everything you said is so spot on! Love this vid man! 🙌

I wonder when they got the reputation for being nippy, 20-30yrs ago they always had the reputations of being pretty chill.

There are certainly nippy and unfriendly ones. I’d imagine those being passed around a lot are the ones who generated that reputation perhaps? Just a guess

I think you nailed it. Hopefully the newer generation sees them as the best choice for a wonderful pet which can be housed in a beautiful enclosure. If only this was hotlinked to Clint's bad review of carpet pythons. I agree with each point and would add one: They are the best looking snake out there. Look at those proportions!

Hey, I’m from Australia I recently got a Bredlis Python yes your right he loves the cold parts of his enclosure and sometimes doesn’t go near his heating mat, his a juvenile at the moment I’ve been feeding him every 10 days but he poops super late some times, is that something I should he concerned about, I usually won’t feed him again until he goes.
@Rileys-Reptiles26 күн бұрын
No that sounds pretty normal to me. I tend not to feed until every 2 weeks and that’s plenty of time for a bowel movement and time to get hungry again.
@xlex.the.menxce11 ай бұрын
Glad you showcased a Bredlii in this video. I've heard they are not true Carpet Pythons which is confusing. I've had my Bredlii male from a juvenile to now right at 2 years. Great feeder and I started including quail chicks into his diet of rats to mix things up. I tried to feed him on tongs and he would approach them but not strike. So I left three in his terrarium and he then figured out he could eat them and took them down in a few minutes.
@Rileys-Reptiles11 ай бұрын
They’re super cool snakes! Most people refer to carpets specifically as the Morelia spilota complex but common names aren’t that important. They’re Morelia and look just like the rest and live in the same continent. Close e ouch!

I recently got a jungle and I’m a bit lost as to how the feeding schedule should be. I really don’t want to over feed but I’m also always worried that maybe I’m not giving my growing baby enough. He’s currently 62 grams. I’d appreciate any advice about prey size and feeding frequency. Love your content!
@Rileys-Reptiles9 ай бұрын
I feed every two weeks a meal that will leave a good belly lump in them. Babies and juveniles start on fuzzies and hoppers and ascend bigger as they grow. They can take good sized meals. Just give em two weeks in between to digest and get hungry again
@BethlamАй бұрын
Two questions: 1) are they good as a first snake? 2) do they have a bluish or rainbow sheen variety?
@Rileys-ReptilesАй бұрын
1) if you can track down one that has a mellow personality right out of the gate, or is already handled a bit, they can be some of the easiest and hardiest first pet snakes. Their size can be a turn off for some folks, but if you aren’t feeding massive meals every week, then you will steadily grow them at a slow pace to an appropriate size. 2) if you’re looking for iridescence on their scales, some of them can really show that off in the right light but they aren’t anywhere near what Rainbow boas for example, can shine.

@@Rileys-Reptiles thank you so much for your quick response. I just found you from the Snake Discovery video. I subscribed immediately. Emily asked what to name her new snake so I came up with Lemonade.
