You're right. I borrowed a page from SB's book this AM. House down the street has been vacant for months. Family moved out, for sale sign in front yard. They apparently have someone who comes and mows once in a while but... Their new/young trees were getting overgrown with "suckers" sprouting and weeds were coming up in the landscaping along the walkway to the front entry. I said "were" because I walk my dog past this house every day and this morning after the walk I took some gloves, clippers, and a trash can liner down there and spent maybe 10 min trimming the suckers off the trees and pulling the biggest weeds out of the landscaping. Hopefully this will help the curb appeal. I know in real estate first impressions are important. We once had to wait 10 months for a buyer for a home so I can sympathize.

There's a line in the song "For What It's Worth": "Paranoia strikes deep/ Into your lives it will creep/ It starts when you're always afraid". These days people are so prone to believe the worst in others (i.e. that you were casing the neighbourhood for some reason). My daughter and I are having a devil of a time finding affordable housing. A house like this, with some TLC inside and out could make people like us a wonderful home, or a veteran who has a small window of time to find employment and housing. With people in the community willing to show their talents inside, and people like Seth getting the yard manageable again, it could go to a wonderful new owner. Homes, like people, have a soul. It still amazes me how the neighbors of these properties don't do this themselves. I have mowed my neighbor's lawn a few times when it started to get high just to help out. Do people just not care about their neighborhoods anymore?

Look at the houses around this one. Older homes and small lots. How many of them do you think have a commercial grade mower to tackle this yard? They probably have a little push mower and a dinky weedeater. You could spend all day trying to cut this down with a push mower and not get very far. And they'd be doing it for free in their off time they could be spending with their family or doing something else.
