Anyway I think it was over for them using Red when they thought it was a good idea to try to water cool one and destroyed it permanently.

@michaeldimitrov1444Ай бұрын
Actually, you are both wrong. They use both the URSA and various Sony cams (fx30, fx3, a7sIII and FX6 to name a few). What they use depends on the video they shoot, and their needs. Also this video’s creator is wrong as well (even tho he is right at the same time). I’ve always watched Linus and MKBHD, and one of the reasons for it is the video quality. Every time I click MKBHD video I am eager to see what sick intro he came up with, and every time I click a Linus video I know I can count on a well lighted, high quality video, that also gives my nerd soul the info I didn’t know I needed. 😊

As an AC I’m in charge of all the expensive camera equipment, camera carts, computers, every bolt, nut, wire, I’m responsible for. Now imagine that I the AC could offer all the monitors, wireless video systems, computers to support all the tech as part of my hire… there’s an advantage there as well as real cost now imagine if I could offer a camera body as well! One can go from a union 5 week movie from making like 15k to maybe 30k on a single film as a below the line technician. That’s some real fucking cash you know?

I'm a person who watches these videos for the knowledge even if I won't ever apply it. Cameras are like mics where there are definite tiers between each item. However, there seems to be some type of compromise unless you pay the price. It makes sense then that many film students stay stuck between tiers 4 and 6, they want to create content but they lack the funding as well as lack the initial knowledge of what makes a good camera.

@TristanA-d2b2 ай бұрын
Like that you included the last segment about how it's everything outside the camera itself that makes a "movie looking shot", especially after you butchered my boy Micro 4/3's the way that you did haha. Obviously, it''d be nice to have the more expensive camera's, but I think the more important thing for me is knowing exactly what is provided for each camera, exactly what features are being added per price, and making that judgement call based of of what I think I can get away with. So, in parallel to your last remark, I personally saw Micro 4/3's are a blessing. I know exactly what are the trade off's as opposed to using a full frame camera, and it made everything a whole reality for me. Yes, I "have" the money to buy a full frame camera, but the reality is my productions would actually look LESS film like if I spent the majority of my budget on the best camera body and lenses, as opposed to investing a part of that money into literally EVERYTHING ELSE that makes a "movie looking" shot: lights, lighting attachments, c-stands, every imaginable piece of grip gear, audio gear, etc. I'm perfectly fine with having less dynamic range, less information in my shot, etc. Those aren't the most limiting things to me, but not having any gear to control the lighting in a scene, that's something that can't be forgiven. This video does help me paint a really good picture though, as I continue in my career it's exciting to imagine the upgrades I'll slowly be acquiring as the ball continues to roll. Also, I like the big dick energy, I'm confident you know more to this craft than any other creator I've seen on this platform, so you just earned a subscriber.

My workplace is in Tier 6 - Sony vlogging cameras meant for staff use. My goal is to get them into Tier 4, or upper Tier 5 at least. Also, I helped out on a shoot when the RED camera first came out. The camera was one of first 100 REDs made, and it had terrible work flow. It had to reboot with every battery change, only a few minutes but a lifetime on set.

I worked on the first two seasons of Young Indiana Jones (George Lucas) in the early 90s and that was shot on 16 mm. It was very common to shoot television on 16 mm because tvs weren’t high definition and square. In set decorating we would make the distinction between working on a feature or a “movie of the week” (MOWs) by making a square with our thumbs and pointers as to say “low quality”. You could get away with exposed drywall screw heads on TV. During the “film era” we’d have a “film break” where at a prescribed time we’d stop shooting. The 2nd AC would remove the magazine and karate chop the film. Remove the exposed film, can it and send a PA along with the rest of the previous exposed film from yesterday to the airport to send it to the lab. There was a liturgy to it. I appreciate the speed and quality of digital but it’s kind of also ruined the work environment or I’m just getting too old to keep up. The first show I worked on that was digital was Army Wives - completely different. Now with streaming and HD tvs it’s feature quality on a TV schedule. The set decorating crew size has tripled to keep up with the speed of digital. I feel like Netflix and the like has made production work so corporate and not as fun as it once was.

Love this video, I have been around the pro photo industry my entire life thanks to my dad, and it has turned me into such a snob when it comes to everyone and their dog saying that they are “a photographer” but couldn’t tell me what a prime lens is and what advantages it has, or what it means for a lens to be “fast”. Everyone just talks about MP and how their phone is 100mp, cause I’m sorry to tell you it’s not, it’s pixel binning…. Someone one tried to explain to me that a full frame was larger than medium format, because full is larger than medium. On a side note “full frame lenses” are a bit of a misnomer, cause any lens designed for a censor like aps-c will be full frame to that sensor.
