I have the Classic Sport Piston, as well as the AL-Sport Piston. The AL version does feel a bit more premium and the weight is good…..but…..the Classic Sport Piston’s light weight is not off-putting to me. You can definitely tell you are holding something much more substantial with the aluminum version, but there are times when I am wearing a very light pair of pants or shorts and the lighter weight pen is welcome. I have fitted my Classic PF with one of my Kaweco Premium nibs with an tip and keep it attached, most of the time, to my calendar notebook where i need to write smaller than usual. My AL PF goes in my pocket daily for work notes and such. I’ve fitted it with a Premium nibs. Both are great daily user pens. My gold nib pens ride the cases in my bag and usually only get pulled out for desk work, correspondence, and journaling.

...and it's a brilliant solution to those people who don't want to use cartridges or to fiddle with small converters. Bravo, KaWeCo!

I am not a fan of all black and gold. In fact, this pen is the only one of them I have, but boy am I glad I still decided to get one. I always feel like I'm rolling the dice with Kaweco nibs and this one is easily the best one I've ever used. I got it in a fine. It did burp ink on the first line the first couple of times I used it, but that may have been me not pushing a little back out of the feed. I'm not sure since this is the only piston I've ever had it happen on and I always just fill as much as it can without worrying about whether it was a complete fill or not with my other piston fillers and they're fine. Regarding the threads, now that you mention it, they do seem sharp, but I didn't notice it because my hands are considerably smaller than yours and the pads of my thumb and index finger fit completely on the tiny section without touching the threads.

My only Kaweco Sport is the Bronze, which, of course, has plenty of heft. If I got this Sport Piston Filler -- and I could imagine doing so, it would be for the ink capacity and "sustainability" of a pen that requires no cartridges. Splendid review. Thanks!

Another great review - thank you, Stephen. Have a brass Kaweco Sport (EF) permanently in my pocket (it's there as I type) - extended the cartridge with a silicone rubber ink sack to maximise the ink capacity. With the EF nib, it lasts a long time on one fill. Don't know its capacity at the moment - will find out if it is at / beyond the 1.2ml of yours. Great writer, tho - even for an EF!
@boshkodjordjevich74242 күн бұрын
Did you say 1.2 ml ink capacity? That's impressive for such a small pen. I think that's the same capacity of a CON-70 converter, and now I'm impressed. I don't really like small pocket pens - and if I were to buy one, it will probably be the metal one. Thank you for this review Mr. Brown.

I bought the AL version recently. It's a beautiful little pen but I think for comfort I may well get the straightforward Sport. I find the finish on the AL together with it's slightly slimmer section awkward to hold. I love my brass version, love my rose gold, but this one is defeating me! Might well sell it on in fact and get the cheaper one. Great piston though. And a great nib!

Hey there Dr Brown, wishing you a Happy New Year from down under. Great review as normal, I agree love the classic black and gold pens and are great for those times a Benu makes stand out too much (I really like Benu's but in a meeting with a principle in a school I'm working in maybe not the greatest idea). Anyways, thanks again, I do like often thanking people for making content as I believe it's valabule time spent to inform and entertain us, so cheers. Chels

You know who also likes blind caps? Cats - they LOVED my Furore's blind cap, it captivated them as they batted it off my dining room table and across my kitchen floor. So, bravo to kaweco for the genius design of the cap to hold onto the blind cap for you!

On 31/12 I ordered this pen and I'm still waiting for its arrival. As for your comment about the light weight of the pen, I understand that the AL model has a more premium feel and weight which is indeed more comfortable to hold, but plastic is more usable for longer writing sessions and that's why I went for this model instead of the aluminum version. I have the Olivine and the Brass which of course are metallic, and I use them all the time but a plastic version is always welcome and I'm glad that Kaweco went for plastic on this particular model.

This reminds me a lot of the Pelikan M200. Steel nib, compact size, piston filling, classic design. Just that this one is about half the time! Lovely. But man, only Kaweco knows how to make such a wet nib skip lol.

I wasn't expecting this model, but, now it's here, I want to see a Skyline (CT) version.

Finally a “Sport” I might get, a piston filler, Yay. I think I’ll go for the AL version, which should take care of the light weight issue. Thanks for the review.

That little gold insert on the piston turning knob on my Kaweco fell out but my Kaweco piston pen is the metal one I bought from Appleboom but this pen looks a little less pricey and a tad lighter maybe even more retro. For what it’s worth i managed to insert the little gold thing but it is a concern to be blunt.

At 10g I agree it is a bit light. Whether we like to admit it or not, weight does generate a sense of quality. Certainly there are cases where people will want feather-weight pens. Personally 15g is about my minimum where it still feels like there’s some substance in the hand.
@bradwavembКүн бұрын
It's also a relatively easy issue to fix. "Just" add some metal parts here and there.

When I got my pen, I was very surprised how light it was. The light weight does not bother me. i would rather have a lighter pen than a heavier pen. It has become one of my EDC pens, along with the Al version. I would love it if they came out with more colors. Here's hoping. Thanks for an excellent review.

Thanks, Stephen. I like it. I even like the Black and Gold, but don't tell anyone. Our High School _(decades ago)_ was Green and Gold and our biggest, cross-town, rival was Black and Gold - boo hiss! :D -- The 1.2 ml capacity is more than most converters hold. -- LOVE that ink, nib and paper combo.
@catherinehubbard1167Күн бұрын
Thanks for this review. Like you, I prefer a heavier pen, with about 22-32 g being the usual sweet spot. That way I don’t have to actively push the pen into the paper when I write so that the film of ink touches as it should. In that range, pen is heavy enough to do that for me while not being heavy enough to tire me out. Feel better, more balanced in the hand, too. That’s why I prefer metal pocket pens to plastic ones.

Very difficult to resist once they come out in the great colours of the regular Sport.

Picked up an aluminum version last month to replace a non piston version as a pocket pen and am very happy with it. The regular AL Sport was good, unfortunately its converter would unhook in the barrel once or twice a year and that was a mess.

I honestly don’t understand how the price is justified with this one. Three times the price of a standard one with the same materials, only adding the minor convenience of a piston fill and ink window.

I know that it is only because I am not one of the myriad legions of pocket pen enthusiasts, but I find it so strange that the price on this small plastic pen in only a few dollars or euros less than the classic Dia 2.

Oh no, I had missed the news that this was out. When they released the AL version of this, I was like "yeah but I want the lighter one, and also it will be cheaper in plastic" So anyway, I watched this video then I bought one. Broad nib too. And a clip. Because they make the clip separate. So I got the gold colored clip of course.

Yes,yes,yes. A true blind cap. I am fed-up of retailers and reviewers calling control knobs , blind caps.

I have one and agree it’s light but couldn’t justify cost of aluminum piston and don’t care for the metallic odor

I think they missed the opportunity to make this pen larger. I would probably enjoy this pen if the section and barrel was a little wider.

For some reason I have about 5 Kaweco Sports despite the fact that none of them will write worth a damn. If I set one down (capped) for more than 12 hours, the ink dries up completely. A shame since the look and feel are so excellent -- too bad mine are useless.

So, no clip on the plastic one, but an integrated clip on the aluminum one. Meanwhile, I am waiting for colors. I love my new little Art Sport in Mineral White, but I would be even happier if it were piston filling. Hint, hint, Kaweco.
