Somin is not my absolute fave in RM okay, it's Jongkook. Always was, probably always will be. I can barely stand Jihyo these days. No personality. I remember when I first started watching she was damn near top form as a woman who wasn't a professional athlete. No idol or actress guesting on the show had the same ferocity she did, because they all had idol baggage. She had a lot going for her. Around the time Gary left she seems to have become quite lost, which I do understand because basically her best partner dropped off the face of the Earth for a while. I stopped watching for various reasons including my attachment to Gary and study+work commitments. When I did pick up again in 2020 thanks to lockdowns, Jihyo had changed a fair bit. I can't remember thinking much about her except for "why is she so… clumsy?" She had that ahjumma feel to her when even Jaesuk didn't have the tired ahjusshi vibe. She became the sort of person who has the self reported sleep schedule of someone with mental health concerns. And these days she's actually caring about what other people think of her outfit? Who is this person and what did she do to Jihyo? If being over 40 and unmarried is an issue for her, and it really shouldn't be in this day and age, she needs to see a therapist. She needs to overhaul her current lifestyle habits whatever the hell they are. Might involve a lot of alcohol and I suspect that's where the lethargy is coming from. When she randomly decided to hack off her own hair I thought that was absurd. Turns out it was a drunken decision, I think they said. Makes Jihyo sense though. Seriously, instead of putting a potentially alcohol dependent 40 year old on a pedestal, can her diehard fans please look into her mental health. If they could redirect Project Trash Somin into Project Jihyo Mental Health Evaluation, maybe they'll catch something before it becomes a tragedy. I'm actually dead serious about it, I don't know how I haven't thought of this before. Thanks to the fellow commenters who brought up the whole turning 40 thing, it really got me thinking.

@@mhdj1251 I studied post grad counselling for a while and things often have underlying triggers that aren't what we see on the surface. 6-7 years ago coincided with Gary dropping off the face of the Earth, almost losing her gig, and less than 6 months later, the introduction of ChanMin. In fact, the introduction of Somin gave a comparison, since she's not the only girl on the show now. If anything, she's competing with Somin where she was never competing with the men for a distinct role. Besides, Asian culture in general is super weird when it comes to women and aging. If there's one thing I learnt from the post grad course I never finished, it's that seemingly small/irrelevant issues from many aspects of life come together to form the symptoms we see. They interact in ways that we don't know until we do a full scale investigation. I personally think, even if it is to a small extent, that age and the perception of age is a direct factor, because quite often, these thoughts are hanging in the back of your mind before you even reach that milestone.

I totally agree with you and I feel the same. I was a fan of Gary and Jihyo, watched from the first episode and Jihyo definitely changed. I feel bad for her I think she really want to leave but she stayed for her fans and she is trying very hard for her fans which I think is why it's taking a toll on her. The pressure especially if she have to call Jaesuk after shoot to ask whether her outfit is appropriate, you can tell probably she is worried about how she perform on every episode. After Gary left, I still watch cos I support Jihyo, but I stopped watching the whole episode now and just watch clips here and there if it feature Jihyo but most of the clips now especially this one, I find it cringing 😞 I feel very bad for her.

I love jihyo, wish she was made comfortable to talk more. She is in such dilemma. Unfortunately women actors image is so important and jihyo can't adopt a funny variety identity to protect her actress image. Before she had Ace identity and monday couple identity but with YJS and JSJ so old they stopped doing physical games. Then Gary left. Ji hyo lost all identity. Even after old pd tried to fire Jong Kook and Ji Hyo, Jong Kook still have his strongest member everyone scared of him identity. He doesn't have to invent a completely new character. Plus Jong kook is fortunate the male members are his close friends and also they are loud and it helps him stay active in show. But Ji Hyo was only female for long time no friends and now only one extra friend So min. Even when Ji Hyo tries to speak the boys are so loud no one hears her. Even YJS and HaHa try to help her talk more before but Ji Hyo struggle to make the opportunities funny. I feel bad for her. These days she is doing better, but she needs to be comfortable making jokes and being loud like the boys.

@@Rudyar610 saying he was always quiet is not right , since the beginning he is so active but after sometimes”after 4-5 years” , he didn’t participate that much and then after the issue he awakened and did his best since then … so saying he was quiet and not participating in the past( since the beginning and not saying even one word )is wrong … also he always shine by himself, he didn’t need others to shine… if he was in this show or other shows, he will shine by his own hard working ( not because he has a loudly male friends around him , but because he has a skills and know how to do a variety show) see somin for example, she is the only female member beside sjh, still she is doing good
