Haven't been a regular here lately, but talking about Government, I have a question for SG. @SG - I had this hunch when Sushil Modi was transferred to Delhi, that he'd be the new FM of India. Think just after the "Khar-maas", Jan 14th. Do you think it can happen? My previous hunches have all been spot on! Would tell you later about them. BTW, emails to your Print mailbox are bouncing with mailer-demons.

I would simply like to point out one small correction. As someone for Chandigarh, Mr Gupta may be forgiven for thinking Chandigarh is the only planned city to have been built in modern India, that is not the case. The capital city of Odisha was also built as a planned city pretty much around the same period as Chandigarh itself. While Bhubaneswar may not have the sense of wonder or style that Corbusier gave Chandigarh, it none the less was a planned city. Similarly, if one is to grant the same status to what was being planned in Amaravti, there have been similar more successful attempts in Naya Raipur and Gandhi Nagar. While Amaravati was probably more grander in thought and vision, the realities of Naya Raipur and Gandhi Nagar as planned "capital areas" near an existing major city deserve to be highlighted more than the khayali pulao of Amaravati. Of course, I am not necessarily disagreeing with your basic point that our cities "suck", but only that there have been a few more attempts to suck less than you have mentioned

it is just waste of money. 2000 crore should have been allocated for project for parliament and secretariat building for rent and seating capcity. But they are allocating 20000 crore Instead of reconstructing eastern delhi and northern delhi, they are wasting money for new Pm residence which already had helipads and bulletproof security. They increase fees in medical and IIT for students, cut pension of army but have extra money for redeveloping posh areas. Why mcd never focused on eastern and northern delhi. It is under bjp for more than 11 years. They could used money for reconstructing colonies, solving traffic problem, buliding drainage systems to avoid flooding.

Everything in this country becomes a debate - vaccine (produced by one very reputed and strong track record Indian firm although phase 3 results were definitely essential but the opposition instead of pointing its guns on the process, messed up by bringing nonsensical "BJP vaccine"), Rafales (essential for our depleting Air force. It does not matter that questions over Bofors were never answered), and now even Central vista (apparently the timing is wrong). The truth is these decisions were essential. In fact, many were pending from the time of UPA and they were accused of delay.

And all his projects are grand and makes an Indian Proud, be it SOU, Solar park in Katchch,Vaccination etc. Again they are economically viable in long run. 2) About Money Govt will find it like they have arranged money for Armed forces upgradation, Infra works on Roads near border. Railways improvement etc.. Gujju mind hay Bhai. 3) Biggest opposition was apart from nobody made any money was that all the buildings will be named after Chatrapati Shivaji, Subhash Chandra Bose, Veer Savarkar, Rani Laxmi Bai, Lal Bahadur Shashtri etc. But none, None will be named after THE FAMILY .

The main aim of building the new parliament is not been discussed widely- that is too increase the seats of loksabha that was frozen from 1976 based on 1971 census data for the aim of family planning. With enlargening the loksabha seats, states such as UP, Bihar, MP, Raj, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh that misserably failed in family planning will be richly rewarded by extra seats while the north east and southern states apart from Punjab and HP will be losers.
