I don't understand why every manufacturer can't be like you. Delivering something perfect rather than focusing on how much you can charge. Your attention to detail and perfection is something to admire! I mean, how many people would spend 5 hours on polishing? You are clearly loving what you are doing and it shows in every video, which makes them so enjoyable to watch. Can't wait for more content! Have a nice day!

Great video. Thanks. A couple of advices. When you change the grid of the sandpaper rinse the part first. If you don't the coarse particles stays and they scratch the surface. Don't use detergent for cleaning or polishing. I don't know the chemistry but makes the acrylic foggy. If you read the cleaning instructions for a acrylic blender or motorcycles windshield for example, they recomend to use mild soap.

+SingularityComputers Awesome video. Just finished watching it! I do have one recommendation though, and it isn't particularly related to the contents of the video. But you should have some ambient music or something in the beginning intro of your videos, rather than a small sound bit, and then like 20-30 seconds of silence while it goes through the screens of your sponsors.

Looks great! However, you might want to experiment with heat to polish acrylic. Made some screw drivers years ago. The handles were done on a lathe, then on the lathe using a torch going back and forth would polish the cut areas perfectly clear. If you did it right anyway. Heat left to long would create bubbles and scorch marks. Now a heat gun might be a better option. Though, heat is probably faster, buffing may be safer as not sure you could recover from a piece from scorch. Thanks for the videos!

I find that once you get to P800, you can switch to novus 3. Novus 3 is definitely course enough to tackle P800 (some people say even P600, but I get mixed results at P600). I find the hard part is using Novus 2 after the 3. There really needs to be something in between - i.e. your 5 hrs mostly spent in polishing comment I am guessing is going to be the work with Novus 2.... (and for perfection, something finer than 2 as I cannot get to haze free compared to new cast acrylic to the naked eye with Novus 2. Extruded acrylic is not of sufficient clarity and looks "perfect" after novus 2, but cast acrylic is definitely clear enough to show slight haze where Novus 2 has been used. I haven't found a polish to do the last bit yet, after many years. And yes, I am here watching this video to see if any suggestion for that last polish is presented, but no such luck!).

Well done, it came out beautifully! I think I recall seeing videos on KZbin of people polishing the edges of acrylic sheets using a torch, like for copper pipe sweating. Perhaps this would make the step between 2500 grit to sponge a bit easier.
@CharlesSnyder8 жыл бұрын
+bedsheetmonkey It does work, but for a really clear polish, it has to be flat. Machining and sanding induces waviness that can be easily picked up by the eye if not sanded flat.

Love the polish and the look of the part, but I do wonder how the thermal expansion of acrylic will come into play during use as the acrylic piece is so large. Also i wonder about the large opening and o-ring and how it will hold up over time. Not being critical, just wondering about the mechanics of this thing. Love the videos, they are the reason I built my own first proper pc.

I feel your pain - had to learn about metal polish when I bought some EK gear back when they insisted on frosting all their kit - really messed up the aesthetic and it had to go. Would you ever consider expanding your accessory line to include items like this? If so would be very interested to know your price point once you find a way of reducing all the after-purchase man hours. Love your channel btw, was shattered that your ability to expand was hamstrung when you had to shut the workshop. I hope you find a way of making that dream a reality soon - your work is truly kick ass.

@SingularityComputers3 жыл бұрын
It can be CNCd on a 3 axis machine with the right tools but its better to do it on a 5 axis machine. I then sanded and polished it by hand.
@larryseibold42872 жыл бұрын
Great video. I like the idea of the metal polish bump, or maybe trying Mothers mag polish. I feel competed to make a clarification. You are apparently using "P" series sand paper, so not 600, 800, 1200 grit, but rather P600, P800, P1200, etc. They are quite different with 600 (CAMI) being almost the same as P1200. I feel that it is not just a minor point. There are other grit systems, but I think P (ISO/FEPA) and no P (CAMI range) are the two most common sand paper grit ranges. It bites me in the ass every so often, particularly at the 1200 level where P1200 is not a forward step from 600. I try to mark the surface of the disks with a sharpie to minimize issue.

A tip if you are trying to keep a flat serface for a seal you can use a sheat of glass with an area than the item serface you are working. Wet the serface of the glass then apply the back of a large sheat of wet and dry to to the wetted glass. The wet and dry will cling flat to the glass. Then work the item in a figure of 8 pattern. This can also be used to correct a warped service. To get the final finnish replace the wet and dry on the glass with a sheat of plain copier paper then apply a small amount of diluted cutting polishing compound to the paper and then work the item in a figure 8 pattern again untill you achieve the final result.

Im sorry but "cant get anything made in this whole country" is the most ridiculous statement. I could name 10 places in Brisbane alone other than mine that could make these 2 simple components. When machining acrylic we thread mill the threads at 10000 rpm with coolant so the threads are nicely transparent, we don't tap, you can polish the outside all you like but the eye will always go to the dry looking tapped threads, we screw the mating lid on when sanding and polishing the edges so the edges stay sharp.
