I don't support the concept of maintenance. When both the partners decided to end the relationship, why should a partner pay for the other. Muslims should treat this as an isolated case and not protest against the judgement. The protests have only exacerbated the problems faced by Muslims and inadvertently aided their rivals. Muslims are free to adhere to Islamic laws in their personal matters (99.99% doing so). Those who choose not to follow Islamic laws have the option to seek resolution through the courts. In such cases, both parties should respect the rulings of the judiciary. Importantly, accepting the verdict will prevents political parties from exploiting the situation.
