Scafell via Foxes Tarn Gully - Wild camp at Great Moss

NOTE regarding the sound quality in this video. Apologies but I was trying out a foam wind buff on the action camera but unfortunately it didn't work. Muffled my voice and didn't cut out the wind noise, making it hard/impossible to fix during editing. So I won't be using that again, only external microphones from now on. Lesson learned!

Loved this. I recently did the same walk in reverse - completely unplanned, due to hitting a storm at the Scafell summit. Lost my bearings completely, had fog all the way down, and didn't realise where I was until I hit Great Moss. One minor correction - at Symmonds Knot you were looking down the West Wall Traverse, not Lords Rake, but one leads down to the other so no harm. Lovely video sir, well done.

A few years ago I had a very similar experience on Scafell, all clagged in and had totally lost my bearings - still to this day I'm not sure which route I came down - it felt very different to Foxes Tarn Gully but it could have been, everything looks different in the mist. Thanks for the correction on the mix up with Lords Rake and West Wall Traverse - I've still to tackle those. Thanks for watching, cheers!

@FellHiker thanks for the reply, I'm glad I'm not the only to have had this experience. I also have no idea which route I took down - which is one reason I watched this video! I know wasn't in the gully, I think I skirted it parallel. I'll never know unless I go back up in the clag and 50mph winds.

did the opposite and went down to Foxes Tarn, i think its easier coming up the gully then going down, great video though and agree Scar Fell is better

Thanks for watching, yeah audio is much harder than visuals when outdoors. I was trying out a foam wind buff on the action camera - but it clearly didn't work too well. My next video I've reverted back to a wireless microphone which works much better (unless raining). Cheers for the feedback 👍

I kinda think to go after week or two but I dont know where to camp I want to arrive about mid day and walk to about 4-5 maybe camp and the next day do the summit and come back home.

Starting out near the bottom of Hard Knott Pass (the red telephone box) and then following the path that follows River Esk up to Great Moss, that should take you to a potential camp spot, then the next day hike up to Scafell via Foxes Tarn is one possibility. I'd recommend plotting the route on the OS map app (or similar app: AllTrails etc.) first before you go.
