One of the coolest scratch built models i´ve ever seen. Extremely nice done! And those smooth, controlled transitions hover/flight, incredible!

WHOLLY CRAP!!! Great technical airplane and its builder, and I love how its all done at the Great Apollo field... That's where I learned how to fly RC as a semi homeless man who literally lived there thought me how to fly. He approached me after crashing about 8 or 10 planes and said, "I can see you really want to fly RC, for a small fee I can teach you". He was an excellent teacher, not only because he was there when ever I had the time to break away from my work as I owned a bicycle component company onZa, with a crazy work schedule. In two months had me flying with the best of them. Of course at the end I gave him a big unexpected bonus, from what I heard got him into a small apartment and got a good job. RC flying also changed my life too. I have poor memory but I think his name was Bob. He had very good patience with me, as he always told me, while flying, "Dan, You Need To Clam Down". Funny thing was, when I did clam down I flew like a pro. A Great lesson in life too. Thank You Bob, where ever you are...

Fantastic engineering work ! And fantastic documentation in this video. Congratulations !!! What a brilliant idea to make the back rotor fixed and achieve yaw with the ailerons - I love and admire such fantastic engineering ! I am also an RC pilot with planes, helicopters & multicopters including an ST360 with the KK2.0 board. Since about 2 years I play with the idea to also build this or a similar VTOL airplane. Once more - my deepest respect and congratulations for your work with this model !

you could run variable pitch but you would compromise the weight of this plane. beautiful job, i had the same idea and wrote about it at hobbyking blogs. you beat me to it good for you. plus now i don't have to do anymore guessing , now i know my other designs will work for sure , so thanks for posting! happy flying, tommy

Great model! One thing I noticed in the full scale videos is that it would've made a great STOL plane without all the equipment necessary for vertical flight. I've always found this plane interesting and it's neat someone made a model of one that works!

With a 4engine prop plane you could perhaps mitigate some of that negative control by having a set of CW and a set of CCW to reduce torque steer, but the tail rotor is also a factor to be considered as it has rotational force in the back.. Just a thought :)

Brilliant in every way. This level of engineering is not on a hobby level, it is very professional I would add. Presumably this includes accelerometers and all the necessary stabilization algorithms, I like the modest of the pilot as he expresses his emotions .........." That was not too scary...... shall we try to .............." Congratulations on being so natural when facing such intricate decisions, Good luck with your building and flying as you seem to enjoy them both .

Excellent video. Not only did you give some history of the original aircraft, but a pretty detailed description of how the model relates to the original, and all in a very calm and steady manner. I at least, appreciated it very much. You mentioned the KK2 flight controller, but may I ask what setting/program do you have that set for? I mean, I know that that controller can deal with quads, hexa's, octo's etc., but a multcopter transitioning to fixed wing? Hmmm interesting. I recently saw a kickstarter project that had 2 'main' wings each with 2 motors as in a quad set-up, but it then tilted both wings so that progressively the thrust was vectored rearwards. I seem to remember that the 'inventor' said that they had developed unique software for the project, but your demonstration seems very close to theirs. Sorry for such a long comment, but really well done again. Regards Mark in the UK

If they had the sophisticated fly by wire technology in the 60s that they use today, the XC-142 might have been a success.
