Hi, this sounds great! Would this technology work on D365 F&O database for reading complex queries/Power BI reading without impacting D365 F&O database. If so, why are not Microsoft recommending this for D365 F&O documentation?

Mats, you can use the "Export to Data Lake" feature to offload Dynamics 365 F&O data into an Azure Data Lake. The data is stored in CDM (Common Data Model) CSV files that you can easily query with Synapse Serverless without even having to ETL them anywhere else. More details here: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/data-entities/finance-data-azure-data-lake

Now this sound interesting. Instead of kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYiXn4KOnseYjaM this could fit a use-case of a read/write primary and a readonly secondary for powerbi to connect to as mentioned. When will this be available as a non-private preview, or under what situation could I get access to this :-)

And please tell me this is not only available to 8 or more vCores. I love those scenario's but 99% of companies we work with do not need this insane performance, but they do need separation between a production and reporting database.

@@grumpydeveloper69 Absolutely, Named Replicas works with any configuration of vCores.

You're absolutely correct and isolating read and resource intensive workloads like the one generated by PowerBI (or any other Data Analysis tool) is one of the most common use cases for Named Replicas. They are available already in Public Preview, so you can just go on and use them right away. You can start from this announcement, where you can also find relevant documentation links: techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-sql/azure-sql-database-hyperscale-named-replicas-are-now-in-preview/ba-p/2451150.
