Michael & Justin share their adventures as a married couple, and American expats living in Italy. With Michael having a physical disability, and mobility issues, we like to show our beautiful Italy, while proving that anybody can live their dream life.
In this video, we let you see our villa, befor work has started, on the renovations. We are very excited to own this beautiful property in beautiful Calabria, in Scalea Italy. Debate #1: The wall between the house and the little shed the same color as house, shed same as house, then you have the contrasting white behind the shed and wall to right of shed going back towards front. Debate #2 Square handles are fun and unusual, the straight ones are to ordinary.

Papers. The outside shed WHITE. Use the wooden armless chairs that are in the kitchen now under your new wooden pergola. The night stand selection. The square handel knobs have a better look. I think the outside iron would look fantastic painted black instead of white. Lastly. I think cabana drapery hanging from the posts of the cover porch. Use linen fabric because it doesn't mold and washable. Love the house. All the best

@@MichaelandJustin I have another idea. Hanging bed to be hung under the covered porch. Use an air mattress and cover it with linen fitted sheets. Perfect for an afternoon book and or nap. Outdoor pizza oven on the uncovered terrace. What is that shed used for? What about an air-conditioned dog house. The aluminum shutters....black or the same green as the hedges. Lastly, an outdoor shower to cool off. Now is the time to incorporate these ideas. I am just saying.

I Totally agree with Kathy Cappelli! 150%. PAVERS, WHITE SHED (It’s NOT part of the house, and having it the same color as the wall will blend in better=looks less choppy) THE SQUARE HANDLE (personally, I am not a fan of them , however, the other dresser is too modern for your bed and nightstands that you’re bringing in from the condo) OUTDOOR CURTAINS would look lovely🥰! Finally, easy on the stone accent in the house. You don’t want it to look too heavy or make it feel like you are in a cave. Also, it may compete or clash with the floors which are kind of busy already…. Love the new house! 😍Fantastic floor plan! Can’t wait for more videos! Barbara

What a beautiful place! I see why you got this spot, great location and it has nice bones as I like to say. It’s funny, when we were there last month I said the same thing about the color( buttery), I get what your mom says! If I bought a place there I’d be feeling that vibe as well. Guys what a fabulous Villa and needless to say the vista is absolutely gorgeous. You will be able to do so much with the place and especially the outdoor area. I think I would like to change those pavers on the front terrace with some larger more authentic Italian style. Just enjoying everyday life and videos.

Our suggestions: pavers for the drive, but consider getting the ones that drain water through them. For the garden shed, we suggest Tuscan Gold. It has the same roof tiles as the house and so we think that it might look odd to have that structure be different. Also, white will show dirt and age more quickly. On the wall, that won’t matter since the plants will be in front, but it might on the garden shed. Regarding the bathroom renovation, we suggest having the sink in the corner, too. You could install a different sink with a cabinet under it, as well as add a wall-mounted cabinet above it for towel storage. That would make more space to maneuver Michael’s walker inside! (My mother used a wheelchair since before I was born, and so I’m very accustomed to thinking about mobility needs and as an engineer about ways to make things more practical for *everyone*!). Thanks also for slowing down on most of your pans! (If you have the ability to increase your shutter speed that would help with smoothing the view on faster pans.). Really, REALLY happy for you two and your mother!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend pavers with grass in between. It will make a good transition + it will allow moisture to be absorbed rather than accumulating or causing runoff.

Lovely house, and at a great price given the condition and sea views. I prefer the straight-handled chest of drawers to the one with square handles. I'd also do the shed in Tuscan gold, same as the house, and paint the wall white. I'd do the railings above that wall in dark green gloss paint which will better protect the metal from wear and tear. Metal railings above a wall are usually painted black, red or dark green. Paving stones for the driveway will look so much nicer than concrete. Please think of donating your unwanted items as opposed to simply disposing of them, as someone somewhere will be grateful for them.

Great purchase Guys! And Baia del Carpino is a very nice area. I am sure you are going to do a fabulous job with the renovation. I would keep the shed the same color of the house, to have a continuation on the building structure, but it could look nice in white as well. You could also post whatever you don’t like on Facebook /Market Place or Subito.it and sell it. I like both beds, the dressers and night stands I am not in love with them, but you can work and transform them. You will have so much fun making everything your own.

How lovely! Can see why you all snapped it up. Many people don't show the before videos so well done! It looks amazing and so much potential. I agree not white for shed but white walls. What an amazing view! Can you walk anywhere from there or down to the sea or is the access car only to get anywhere? Have you got a local small food shop or do you need to go into central Scalea? Much improvement on the camera work with less fast spinning it around so its easier to watch.

Hi Ponkelina. Thanks for watching and your input. Much appreciated. Baia Del Carpino community of Scalea has a pizzeria and pastry shop cafe open in season. We also have a private beach here. We drive but fit folks can easily walk anywhere in Scalea. Baia Del Carpino has an upper area and lower area with SS18 between. Upper offers sweeping views while lower is more direct sea level views. All uniquely different views per lot yet all pretty fabulous views in my opinion.

Congratulations on your new villa guys! I have an unrelated question: we’re looking at apartments in Scalea, including some penthouses. I’ve heard horror stories about how much hotter penthouses are in the summer than say the primo or secondo piano, and how much higher your energy bills can be. Do you know if this is true or not? I’m not sure if you’ve lived in a penthouse or not at some point, but maybe you’ve heard from others about this. Love your channel!

Love, love ,love the view , garden and house. Auguri! Driveway … do they have stamped concrete? Concrete can look like pavers without the movement of pavers nor the weeds. Shed … same color of house. It will continue the lines of home making it cohesive and look larger. Square handles on dresser. They’re different. Just my opinions. You guys are great at decorating from what I saw at condo!! Just found your channel and thorough enjoy it. Love the view from your villa ! Regarding the parking area: Neither pavers nor a solid slab of concrete (please not this last one). Consider doing big rectangles & squares of concrete with grass in between. This is what homes in SoFlo are doing now. It’s a nice transition between the hard scape of the cement and the smooth lawn. It is also more stable than pavers. You can do a combination of geometric patterns using all square or rectangular cement pieces. It is poured cement, but it would not be a solid slab. Check online for inspiration! Congratulations, you got yourself a GEM !

I agree with removing the Bidet, I prefer a Bidet toilet seat added to the toilet for those that want a Bidet. I'm not a fan of window drapes or sheers as it takes away from the view. I 💓 the dog washing station outside & would you consider turning the shed into a laundry room? Looking forward to binging your video's!

Congratulations! First of all, you guys are absolutely DARLING! Your corner property is amazing and the sea view is to die for! I definitely recommend the pavers for the driveway, black (or lighter shade of black) for the iron fence and arches to match and Tuscan gold for the shed. We're looking forward to your renovations and learning from your experiences! Be careful with the iconic cafettieras: many are of aluminum (NOT GOOD FOR YOU !!!) Get the stainless steel kind.
