Thanks for the video Paul. I’ve come to realise over the years that anything “Mr Hobby/Mr Colour/Gunze Sangyo” related is going to be absolutely superb. I see GSI products as basically less well known but superior versions of Tamiya products. Though, I must say, Tamiyas new lacquer paints (the ones in the pots for airbrushing) are utterly brilliant.

I think I would use both. And you are right they look a lot a like. But. In the past I would add Tamiya transparents mixed it to help make panel differences. But I do not know it they would work with these. I might like using these.

Good vid. I'm thinking since the chrome is supposed to be over a gloss black base, all subsequent coats are on a chrome base instead of the black, therefore the difference in luster. And, the reason the best shine is with the first chrome coat. Convinced to get the SM2 series.

Interesting review Paul. Shame the paint manufacturers can't seem to differentiate colours like the true qualities of the real thing but you've saved me a few bob so thanks for your time in producing these vids.

Thanks for the review. I had just run out of the Tamiya X-11. The Covid-19 has made it hell for us Malaysia to obtain paints and material. There's just no more X-11 here!. So I was looking towards getting the lacquer LP-11 until I saw this. Stay safe.

Great video! Mind if I ask, but can you give me the link of the mixer and the levelling thinner that you used in this video please? I found the T-106 and T-108 Mr Color Levelling Thinner but besides the quantity of thinner, respectively 110ml and 400ml I don't know if there are any other differences, thanks in advance! :)

Thanks Paul, for the review. Just to clarify, what was the drying time between those mist coats ? Assuming that wasnt all in real time , though some of those laq based metallics can flash off pretty quick.

Really great comparison, I did like the look of the chrome for a single pass. Do you know why the thinner makes so much difference? Also, this is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string?" type of question but can you offer some idea of how often you should replace the filters in respirator masks?

Hi Paul, how does the chrome look if you use 2 coats and then use hyper-polish on it? I find the hyper-polish is great for a mirror shine even on flat colours, not sure if you're tried it? Just looking for a decent chrome effect to cover the very toyish mirror finish on 1:24 models, the ones that you can't sand smooth.

GSI products in general are amazing but dang, their lacquer paints are horrendous when is comes to smell. A good spray booth, a respirator and adequate ventilation are essential to using them. Too bad the US requirement for acrylic paints changes and they withdrew that line of paints. I have always wanted to try their Acrysion line but no local hobby store carries it in my area. I bought their Metallic line and when I saw Super Metallics 2 at my LHS I jumped on them. Thanks for the tips and the review.
