Here's the next episode of Scales & Tales with the second installment of the Pentatonic Puzzles series. The pentatonic scale is one of the most useful and common musical scales on the planet - from pop, rock, metal, blues, jazz, funk, country, and more, this scale has been around the block more than a six-year-old with a new bicycle. While it's easy to work with pentatonic scales, it's also quite common to feel like you're trapped in a box and unable to create new ideas using this "old" or simple information.
This lesson focuses on opening-up the sound of this tired scale and provides a number of new approaches, sequences, techniques, and left-field ideas that will help you become reacquainted with this used-and-abused musical tool and notice some different ways of getting around the fretboard and creating new licks and ideas in general.
This one's all about being creative and finding new ways of playing something you're more than likely very familiar with, so it's always good to challenge yourself and see what you can create using a simple scale that everyone from Hendrix, Clapton, Van Halen, "Dimebag," Satriani, Buckethead, and more have explored this basic five-note selection of notes extensively, and there are countless things you can learn from diving-in and really try to create some new ideas, licks, phrases, approaches, and more.

Another great video as usual, Dave… Who disliked this? Someone who doesn’t like learning? I guess it takes all kinds. Whatever… You keep up the great video content and I’m sure myself and thousands of others will keep watching and keep on giving you the thumbs up.

Hi David, I don't know if any ppl here agree with me, but even though I greatly enjoy your chordplay and 3 licks episodes, I always learn tons...every time you do Scales & Tales or Breaking Chords , they are my favourite becuase it really is like you are giving me a private guitar lesson. Keep up the great work and thanks for this channel and content.

Thank you for these last two lessons ! I really love the way you conceptualize things and the way you teach concepts.. Part two, just like part one has been full of these "ahaa, i see!" moments. Easy to grasp but still gamechangers! Btw, maybe hire an expert to help raise your youtube/online profile. You are easily one of the very best guitar teachers on youtube. You should have 10x the number of subscribers you currently have. Oh, and please, more lessons like these, thnx!

I don't think you intended it to be funny but when you played the example of just going up and down as a solo that is definitely what not to do but looking back there was a time for all of us when that was it ! really liked the skipping sequences I'm definitely one to have overlooked pentatonic in favor of 3 note diatonic scales great lesson David thank you 🤘👍

These are awesome ways to look at breaking up the normalcy of the Pentatonic! Thanks! I think that the feel of the song these pentatonics get applied to also kinda helps push into to new territory. Meaning like if a song has a heavy swing to it or just straight up 4\4 rock tune. Hope that makes sense. Any how once again I pick up my guitar during your video ;) Thanks!

Hi, Here is another pentatonic idea 💡 *** Applying Multiple Pentatonic Scales that still stay in one key ...... Example in “C Major” One Chord = Use C Major Pentatonic Patterns ( C D E G A) Two Chord = Use Dm Pentatonic Patterns ( D F G A C) Three Chord = Use Em Pentatonic Patterns ( E G A B D ) Four Chord = Use F Major Pentatonic Patterns. (F G A C D) Five Chord = Use G Major Pentatonic Patterns.. (G A B D E) Six Chord = Use Am Pentatonic Patterns... (A C D E G ) **** So notice all the notes still stay in the Key of “C Major” , none of the notes are outside the key of “ C Major” but we’re using 6 separate pentatonic scales .... 3 Major Pentatonics & 3 Minor Pentatonics. Have Fun!!! 😉👋

Hello many thanks for your beautiful videos...it s full of info.... I study hotel california and it s full of bending..between the 3minor and 3 major and also other note like he bend a half step the note below but it s very hard...and I guess the concept is not clear in my head....I was wonderring if you wanted once clarify these kind of choruses (like bohemian rapsody europa still got the blues steve vai fornthe love of god and off course jeff beck😍😍😍😍 and others the list is very long ah ah...it s seems to my hear that every single note is the best one you could choose...it s so tasty...take care it s hot in your country actually

That's all right and all, but kinda lame to. Any beginning players should be able to do that and better. I think that could have been done way better with something about how to form chords and scales/ theory
