Good breakdown. I see a 3-5-2 with Enzo getting licence to push forward as he poses the biggest threat on goal out of midfield. Molina is a gazelle and can shadow Mbappe while Romero plays a zone role so Mbappe is always doubled when he comes forward. Vamos Argentina!!!

Argentinian journalist GASTON EDUL just tweeted this (translated): "Lionel Scaloni has not yet decided if Lisandro Martínez or Ángel Di María will play. With Lisandro it will be 5-3-2. With Di María it will be 4-4-2." Licha or Di Maria might both still be on the bench for the Final if Scaloni sticks with Paredes in a 4-4-2. Edit: Scaloni has decided to start Di Maria on the right in a 442 with Mac Allister, Enzo and De Paul in midfield. Super attacking lineup!!

The biggest threat for Argentina in the game is Griezman. Mbappe can be marked out of a game by cutting off his supply line (Griezman) and by covering the spaces he wants to cut into. A narrow 4-4-2 is probably best in that regard.

In 2018 Sampaoli didn't give much attention to Mbappe and that's why he was able to run at our defense like he did. This time, I do believe he will have a more quiet game. We have defenders with eyes on him now. It's very difficult to hit Argentina twice specifically when Argentina have a better coach than last time.

i think 3-5-2 will provide more defensive cover on the counter and allows argentina to have man advantage in the midfield. but the outside midfielders will have to exploit the width in the final third. either you take the approach england did and keep the ball on the opposite side as mbappe but that means messi will have to play centrally or push out further left to get involved or take the opposed approach and make mbappe and hernandez defend and overload france’s left side

I just think 3-5-2 is the better formation. I would much rather leave space to France with Licha on defense and Acuña on attack than with Acuña as a last defender. Acuña is going up no matter what, otherwise he serves no purpose there. So the one who will have to cover that space would have to be a midfielder and I don't see them do it successfully for the whole game. So I think 3-5-2 is by far the safest choice.

4-4-2 is the most likely formation. Containing Mbappe is the key for Argentina. The substitutes can change the formation according to Scaloni if needed The strategy of Argentina will definitely do the needful. Argentina can score goals however. The more focus on defense by Argentina can exploit the key French during the match. Argentina 2 - 0 France is the result in side 90 minutes... Vamos ,Vamos Argentina!

I think you missed a huge point when talking about the 433. Di Maria's presence will have to keep Theo pinned back, because Di Maria on the wing with space is devastating. Theo not advancing forward will leave Mbappe isolated on the wing in a 2v1 against De Paul and Molina, which will force him to go more central to get into more dangerous attacking positions. De Paul will most likely man mark him and follow him into the center of the pitch like he did to Neymar in the 2021 Copa America final, where he largely kept the latter quiet for most of the match. Taking the left flank away from France is probably the most devastating thing that can happen to them, which is why I think Scaloni will go with Di Maria for the final.

I think either the 3-5-2 will be played or the 4-4-2. The 3-5-2 will definitely help against Frances attack and being able to some what overload the midfield. The 4-4-2 worked really well against Croatia and if they managed to overcome what I think most people would consider the best midfield trio at the tournament I think they’ll play it again. But that’s what’s so good about playing multiple formations and having similar success, I don’t know what the whole thing about the France side getting sick is, but if that is a red herring so is having many options for formations. Overall Argentina will exploit the right hand side of the field with Messi and Alvarez will do a lot of pressing with de Paul. I do not think Argentina will change much of their play style to invite pressure since Argentina have done pretty bad when inviting pressure unlike France. I think it will all be decided by who can follow their formations and tactics as well as possible and not allowing any mistakes to occur, it will mostly likely be a drawn out game, maybe a couple goals but it will be cagey until the end. I think Argentina will have some success if they ever need to grab a goal however, Di Maria, Dybala, Correa and etc are elite class strikers that just a moment of greatness will maybe allow a Götze like moment to occur for Argentina. I’m obviously cheering for Argentina and I think the individual performances of each sides best players will determine the game. Alongside if it isn’t a one or two goal game, who can score the first goal. Plus argentinas one more day of rest may be the game changer for everything. The last two world cups have been won by the team which had one more day of rest after the semi finals.

Great comment! You talk a lot of sense and I appreciate it 🙂 If no individual errors occur till the 80th minute (penalty, red card), it will be a super cagey game probably 0-0 or 1-1. Last ten we could see one of the teams go for it and either succeed or fail and concede on the counter. Substitutions will be key from Scaloni but Deschamps was good with them vs Morocco as well (brought on Thuram and Kolo Muani in the 65th and 78th min who were both involved in the 2nd goal). France team are not quite fit.. they had 2 tough matches where they needed to do a lot of running. 5 players are sick.. i dont think they would have the same impact if they can play after getting well. 2 central defenders are gonna miss certainly as they infected on friday. There is still possibility of geeting new players sick.. it will be hard for France to manage a strong team against Argenrina.

Instead of stopping mbappe you have to stop the ball reaching to him. Disrupt their midfield, press them and stop Griezman. He is the heart of their attack , not Mbappe. Remember Mbappe is a classic striker, without getting the ball feeded to him, he will loose his fangs.

I think it'll be 3 5 2 with dimaria being one of the 5 also with Alvarez and Messi up front. Or it'll be the case in 2nd half if attacks aren't threatening enough. I'm sure he will most likely have a preset player to take off which will be a mega work horse when dimaria comes on he will also have instructions to work hard and attentive on defense. 💪

Of course a 3-5-2. Simply because Argentina can use Macalister, Fernandez, DiMaria, DePaul, and Paredes. Paredes can be the pivot between mid and defense. Because Alex and Enzo can score, with DiMaria, is like having 5 potential fwds. France is basically fkd!!! Argentina's subs will make the difference late in the match. Mark me.....

I'm fine with either 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 as they have a lot of similarities, with just different personnel. Personally, I think Di Maria will offer more of the bench in the 60th-70th minute if/when Argentina need a goal. Scaloni will most likely go to a 4-3-3 if he's down by a goal or 2.

I havent watched a whole lot of Benfica this season or River Plate last season. I can tell you from watching Argentina over the last 6 games that all 3 MFs are allowed to get forward when the time is right. Mac Allister and Enzo are probably getting forward more than De Paul as those provide more goal threat. Lets see how Scaloni sets up the teams!

4 4 2 will be hard because mid must be tight and they should mark griezmann and mabbpe. Depaul need to cover mabbape who will tuck in the middle and theo who runs and that's weak point for farnce. And we know di Maria is dangerous

@@footywithanedge He changed at 40 min because dembeleand hernandez were tired. The change he did was perfect and we saw the difference . Deschamps did a very good move. I believe Deschamps is a genius in term of tactic. Its not his fault if we go to the world cup with half the team . We all want him to stay . Even with all the troubles he took us to the final . And its probably the best final ever.

@@footywithanedge 4 years is very far its impossible to say. For me the player who really changed the game was kolo muani , he played better than Dembele . Also Camavinga was better than Hernandez. Once both got on the field the game changed radicaly. More fresh they had oppprtunities to open spaces for Mbappé. Messi or Mbappé cant do anything without a good team . I never forget its a collectiv sport , its why im never overhyping or spitting on 1 player. Look at messi 4 years ago , he was the same player but the team was not at the level. Our team is young most of the guys will be here again in 4 years i hope.

Gastón Edul had just tweeted a possibility of a 4-4-2 with Di Maria. How do you see this happening? Who would be sacked of the team? I think probably Paredes, but I see him as an important piece not only to help Argentina contain France wingers (giving cover to Acuña for exemple) but to pressure Griezmann in the middle, which may be the key of the game.

I think that with Di Maria and Leo on the pitch, Argentina may try to emulate the almost sucessful England proposal with Saka -> Putting pressure on the right side of the field so Hernandez cant go forward to support Mbappé and so Mbappé can't play always as deep in the field as he wants.

To answer your question though, Di Maria will probably play as the 2nd striker with Messi. Alvarez will then play as a left midfielder, with Paredes dropping out of the team. This way De Paul can still offer defensive stability on the right side behind Di Maria and Messi who wont track back as much. Might be a risky move to play a 442 like this as it gives you one less defender on the counter.

@@footywithanedge To be honest giving the first penalty as well as a yellow card to the Croatian goalkeeper made him look nervous, one can see his face. That means during second scoring chance for Argentina, he acted very defensively. Even the Croatian defender during third goal chance, didn't attempt to tackle down Messi in the penalty area. It's like killing morale apart from the fact that Croatian attacking simply relies on opposition mistakes. Morocco has different story. Those players care nothing about the cards given. All African players give more importance on how they celebrate rather than securing their places for the important games.
