Excellent job in completely befuddling them with reason and common sense. Love that you are breaking down the scam process. I'm glad I also could question them in a similar manner as I was the unofficial computer technician, audio-visual person, and general fix it person with all equipment in the business where I worked (in the Stone Age) before good anti-virus programs were available. Those were the days when people automatically opened attachments in emails. I have loved tinkering with equipment from the time I was a young bride and my cool and savvy husband was trying to hook up our first fancy record turntable with auxiliary cassette equipment - speaker setup and couldn't get it to work. I did the dumb brunette thing until I couldn't take it any more and just switched a few of the out and in cables to the right connections and ta da - working. I appreciate that you read the communications from the romance scammers for us so I can drop off to sleep. Not boring at all, just have already watched all of your videos once and then go back for a repeat for sleep. Glad you got a break from all those marriage proposals. You are one feisty lady! Keep them coming...

1. Never answer unknown number phone calls. 2. Never click unknown links or emails. 3. If they ask you to type "anydesk" or "teamviewer" or Sykes, turn off your computer immediately. 4 Listen and take note 'Annie Smith's explanation in this video and how she handled the scammer professionally. Good job, 👍👍👍👍👍

you explained that really well. they think they are slick but any questions to explain this ridiculous crap they are saying stumps them and they don't know what to do except get mad usually or threaten. and what you said at the very beginning is what people should listen for and as soon as it happens to hang up. them having nothing but your last name... there's no way in hell a company is going to start talking to you about some order when they don't have a clue as to who you are and no account information. that makes 0 sense. i have even heard them threaten to charge the person right then when they ask why they can't just log in once the order has gone live and cancel it. they are truly horrible scumbags.

Yeah for Annie! The more you questioned either person the more angry they became. I haven't had a landline in years because of spam calls and I never answer a cell call from a number I don't know. If it's important the caller will leave a message. I've had the SS calls before and leave their BS message but I report the call to the Do Not Call Database. I recently purchased a new android phone and it has a feature that detects a spam calls. Woo-hoo how awesome is that! On another note, I have received spam emails for Amazon, Netflix, etc. I never respond to the message OR click on any link. All these companies have a "report a fraud email" address to forward the email too.

You should never hang up the call on these Indian Amazon/Tech support/HMRC scammers, their call centre pays for the call if they hang up, they are not charged if you hang up. That’s why they ask you to “hang up the call” at the end rather than hanging up themselves. Let them talk to themselves :)

They were talking absolute tosh. Amazon does not charge the customer until the order has been dispatched; so if what they were saying was true on some alternative universe, it would be easy to cancel without losing any money. Seems like these scammers got more and more desperate to keep you hooked when you were actually providing us with great info and fun.

Here are more tips to derail these scammers: (1) If they said an authorized charge was charged to your card, ask them for the last four digits of your card. They will usually hang up. (2) If they say they have a parcel for you or that customs needs you to pay them, ask them to confirm your postal/zip code. They will usually hang up. (3) If they say you own taxes, ask them to confirm the last 3-4 digits of your taxpayer ID number to confirm your identity. (4) If they say they are the IRS, CRA, HMRS, or any other national tax revenue ministry, inform them that you will sign in online to check your account. Inform them to verify what tax year they are calling about, and then tell them to confirm a certain line amount on that year's tax return to confirm your identity. They will hang up. (5) If they claim to be Amazon, tell them to confirm the last 3-4 digits of the order number so that you can check it when you sign online to view your order history. (6) One time I got a call from a U.S. number from Oklahoma claiming to be Canada Post. I asked the moron calling why would Canada Post call from a U.S. area code. He hung up. (7) If they claim to have a parcel for you, ask them for the tracking number and courier used. Then thank them and tell them you will call the courier directly to handle the problem.

A few years ago i got an email saying that I had a virus and a contact number . I called the number and a man with a heavy accent was on the other line. HE went through his talk and said that I had to log into my computer. I told him that I had to leave for work in ten minutes which I really did when he said it would take thirty minutes to do what he had to do. THen he asked me if I could call in late because I really needed to take care of this problem . I hung up on the jerk. I also get random calls and when I hear a heavy accent and if they ask me if I am in front of my computer , I hang up and block them.

Thanks for the reply! I can't even get *60 to work but at least the Amazon calls have stopped for a while now! Now it's Bell Canada trying to give me home phone + Internet for $55/month which here in Canada Ontario is impossible unless you get something like X-Plore if you live out on lake eerie or some out of the way place! Otherwise it’s a little over $100/month after all the saving/deals that can be squeezed out of the cheapest company (Cogeco)!
