I got hit with the scam near sears village with the bridge you have to jump (edit: drop lure in temple ikov), but if your weight is too high you die or something like that. I knew what it was and tried to get one over on the scammer only to lose wayyyyyyy to much. I was an idiot thinking I could win. They make sure there are just enough moving parts to psychological get you to slip up somewhere. Now I just collect on the scams that pay up front to try and get your trust. Bank standing with full Bandos tends to get their attention.

That corp beast instance scam explanation is part of the bait. That is what they get you to think that they are going to do (and of course you will think that you know how to beat it because you can just not click the teleport), but what the ACTUAL scam is, is that as soon as they see that you aren't holding your items (they have been dropped), they kick you from fc, which kicks you from the instance, then they wait 1 min and take ur shit.

The one scam that will stay with me for life was the noted rune/iron equipment quick swap back in the day. Lost about 80k, but it's a lesson to never forget to double check the trade screen.

Yeah once I got scammed for trying to buy a rune scimitar for 25k (usually they were sold like for 30-35k), they put in the trade window a rune noted scimitar, i put in the gp insta clicked trade - trade. And I got in my inventory an iron scimitar. Lesson learned! I wanted easy 5k profit out of it lol

I was attempting to buy 3k magic logs he closed the trade and said “hurry up I have to go” I quickly accepted the second go round but it was willow logs. When I was 19, I won 6 bonds from a Sparc Mac giveaway and instantly sold them to try to get enough money for pegasians. I was 500k short and inpatient. So I hopped to 330 and started to chat spam that I was buying them for 27m instead of something like 27.5m. I was 2 days into traveling abroad to Australia from America and I was super sick with a fever. This guy asks to see the cash, I put it in the window, he puts a tele in and says his main will meet me in seers bank. I accept and tele to seers bank excited for my brand new pairt of shiny green boots. I wait there for about 2 minutes confused why nothing is happening and see no gp in my inventory. Honestly I was super sad in that moment, but looking back it was funny as hell. Guy just caught me at the perfect time. Sick, jet lagged, and overly excited. Shit happens.

I got banned for trust trading when i was 13. Its when you show an expensive item and people trade you items, you post the current highest price trade completed. You then give the stuff back and the next guy trades you stuff worth more than the last person. You do this until someone trades a stupid amount of stuff and you dip with it.

Drop lure still works: If you drop your items in upstairs Varrock Castle you can somehow get punched behind an open door and trapped if there's an account logged in beneath spam clicking. Bottom line: Don't drop your items.

The favourites / most memorable for me are the trust trade because a dude I thought I was friends with for 13 years outside the game scammed me for 50m. But also the item swapping, because it was so obvious what the scammer was trying to do and I was just hyper aware of it at the time, and he ended up swapping the items and fucking the trade up for himself and I made 20m from him , and he instantly teleported out probably thinking he got me , shit was hilarious .

Someone tried to scam me yesterday. Gave me 1 mill and had me follow away from people. Dropped some dragon gear. Then asked me to grab my expensive stuff and follow them. I took the 1.5mil in gear and cash and said sorry this is sus im good. Not even 20min later some kid tried the buy limit scam on me, but with a twist. He handed me 500k and asked me to buy him beer. Each beer was on GE for over 1k each when I did a quick check. Told the guy I couldn't do that. He asked for the money back and told him my rent was due and it was all gone. Had a clan mate stand by and pretend to be my landlord. I hate scammers, but love when they give you large sums of money before hand thinking you will fall for it. Use your head, don't trust anyone, 2mil off those kids is 2 mill more than I had before. I call 30min for 2mill a decent profit/hr ratio.

First scam I ever spotted and saved myself was someone saying "show me your bank, ill add 10%" so i did he puts up 10% of my bank value and accepts quick. I got to the second window before I realized I almost lost everything ( this was back in 2006)

I started to get upset because you were saying I was dumb for falling for lending someone a valuable item and they logged and blocked me (blue Halloween mask worth like 150k-200k at the time), but a: I was like 14 at the time and b: the other person had been my best RS friend throughout RSC for like 7 months from when I became a member to the start of RS2. We would do all kinds of stuff together. We'd hang out talking and meanwhile I'd be training my favorite skill (mining) on coal using the new sleeping bags to stay at the rocks in lumby swamp or barb village while they'd run my ores to the bank, and possibly cert them for me, and we'd watch each others backs training combat and stuff. Losing what I thought was a great friend of such a long time hurt more than losing the blue Halloween mask. I had a new mask within the week thanks to running natures at the dawn of RS2 when the RCer would provide the noted essence and ALL natures made. I had earned my first blue mask by going into the woods where the red vine worms are as soon as RS2 started, full of normal trees (only normal logs could be made into arrow shafts at the time) and not leaving until I had enough arrow shafts to sell to get a blue mask and finish affording a glory amulet as well. RS2 was the dawn of the combat triangle from the previous melee focus so there was a lot of fast money to be made early on in RS2 with arrow shafts and nature running. Funny thing is before asking for my blue mask he first asked to "borrow" my less expensive glory and I declined because I was about to go to Shilo Village to mine gem rocks, but I had no problem handing over the more expensive mask. Yeah, I was a dumb kid, but as I said I was able to replace the mask within the week while we'd been thick as thieves for over half a year. One thing I did that was equally as dumb in hindsight was share my main account back when it was against the rules, including pin, with an in-game/MSN friend I'd known for a couple of years, but nothing bad came of it. He trained some skills and did some quests I had no interest in at the time. Funny enough, I actually volunteered to do Underground Pass for several friends as it was an infamously infuriating quest (I did it on classic and it felt like an awesome achievement, and since I had already experienced doing it in a harder version of Runescape and knew what to expect I gladly volunteered to do it for any friend that couldn't be bothered with that infamous quest. I liked doing Underground Pass in early RS2, and making my friends happy that they didn't have that hanging over their quest log. I think I'm broken. I suppose it sucked to be them when Regicide came out. Sure, it's simpler to go back through than to do the whole quest, but familiarity with the pass and its traps definitely helps things go smoother.

One I got hit by back in 06 right after construction came out, someone said there was a dupe glitch involving the opulent dining table, where if you put an item in it you could pick it up and it would still be on the table, letting you dupe it. There used to be a fence between dark wizards and the path south of them leading into varrok. Way back in the day, I would get a dark wizard stuck south of the fence (right on top of the path). I'd stand on top of the wizard so incoming noobs couldn't see it and wait for the lvl 3s who drop traded from their mains. Back then, loot from players appeared on the ground immediately after death, the best loot I got doing this was like 500k in runes. Good times x'D

Just got done by a wildly lure lol. Was 4am and I just finished a slayer task on high risk world and went back to GE. As I was running to the booth all these dragon platelegswere spawning on the ground. I knew it was a lure but I followed the trail to the wilderness ditch. Said to myself “don’t hop that ditch” as I had about 900k in platelegs already but as I said it a cannon spawned on the ground. 2:20 Hard disagree. Since when has skull-tricking in the wildy been a bannable offense? Has anyone ever been banned for that? While deceptive, it's night-and-day from actual scamming. The key difference is the social engineering (and exploits/bugs) in play, which is the thing that actually gets you banned. Skull-tricking usually has none of that. I also want to add: if you get skull-tricked when skull prevention is a thing these days, that's 100000% on you.

Drop lure was not used in wilderness. It was when people dropped their items under a tile where the action to do something appears before the pick up item option. The victims would then drop their items but when they click their items, it would make them do an action instead of picking up their items and then the items would appear to the lurer before they could make it back to that spot.

There was a lure in rs3 where they would ask you to drop a rare item, then release 30+ clockwork things so you couldn't right click and pick your item up. Only way you could was with tele-grab, which is how the lurers would get your rare item. Happened to someone I knew, but Jagex refunded their partyhat they lost.

1:52 lmao that is totally totally false. You can not be banned for hiding under an item as a 3rd age ring attempting to skull trick people. No idea where you got that from… 9:32 also completely false. 24:01 stalls are patched on pvp worlds from my understanding. Now they do things like getting you to click an item in the trade and then closing it to drag you out . They have other means as well I’m pretty sure but I don’t think they use the stalls anymore. Still the easiest way not to fall for these people to simply not get involved. 38:32 they aren’t banned because it’s not bannable and never was. You are just pulling that out of your ass because you have some personal bias against it. You think it’s wrong it shouldn’t be allowed and whilst that’s fair and you are completely entitled to that opinion, it DOES NOT make it bannable.

@@KingCondor the only thing on the rule page that you could argue skull tricking falls under is the part where they state “Anything else that uses scamming techniques, dishonesty, misdirection or similar and results in a player losing items or wealth that they did not expect to lose.” You would probably argue that skill tricking falls under “results in a player losing items or wealth that they didn’t intend to use.” Yes? The problem is that it doesn’t say “or” it says “and” implying there needs to be some sort of direct involvement of “scamming tech, dishonesty, misdirection, or something similar.” To me this makes a distinction between certain types of skill tricking. If I’m sitting here saying “hey go pick up that item, or hey go slash that web, or attack that NPC, or use any manner of dirty tactics to directly convince you to do those actions…then that would be bannable. However, if I’m just sitting around waiting for you to take one of those actions on your own without somehow goating you into doing so then it’s not bannable. In one scenario you directly deceiving someone and in another you are hoping they are an idiot AND don’t check their settings before entering the wildy. Sure they are preying on the lesser experienced/less careful players.(I’d argue greedy players in a lot of cases) And we can argue the morality on that all day but I don’t think we can say it’s bannable. Does that make sense? I feel like if jagex saw it the same way as you then these higher profile content creators woulda been banned for it already. Has anyone actually seen a jmod comment on skull tricking? As far as i can tell from the limited info we have. If I’m not luring you to do it or abusing a bug to achieve it, then it’s fair game.

@@KingCondoridk man I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree. The only “intent” that they list in the rules is essentially equivalent to luring the person into skulling. In the latter case that I mention there is essentially no action taking by the skull tricker besides waiting. If they truly want it to be bannable perhaps they should clearly define it In the rules because as it stands I think you could make a strong argument that it doesn’t fall under any of the categories that jagex lists on their website.

@@JustHereForTheDialogue Agreed. Social engineering is the common denominator that makes scams and lures actually bannable. That's what is meant by "intent". Unless there's been a recent change in policy, skull-tricking in the wilderness simply doesn't qualify as a bannable offense, and of course I've never heard of anyone being banned for it, like, ever. How can you tell, with 100% certainty, that they weren't trying to "skull up"? It's the wilderness - you can't. Why would they have skull prevention off if they weren't trying to attack people?

The trust trade scam is where the scammer tells you to trust trade like a tbow to one of your friends or whatever and then on another account they change their name to look like yours so the friend gives the tbow back to the wrong person. It works, be careful gents
