@@jamessullivan5650 I honestly thought that defense would provide some degree of mitigation to damage. Not just make you harder to hit. I understand the game better now but I feel like players would be les concerned about a DPS meta if that was the case. Sure killing a boss faster will still be more "efficient" for players capable of doing so but being able to utilize something like Torags as a newer player to learn content a bit safer would be HUGE. It's just past the mid game point it seems like most mobs/bosses are almost guaranteed to hit even in a tank set. Especially stronger bosses where there's probably a miniscule chance they're missing with or without heavy defense bonuses. With protects being the only way to really mitigate damage. Defenses just dont provide enough so past a point the damage boost is all that matters if any survivability is related to prayer.

the problem with prayer is that the three protection skills are just so useful, they could have made three different spellbooks with each at the top and you would believe it, it has more stuff they could do with it, maybe prayers that do more than focus on combat like magic can do more than damage

Attack level literally makes your hits more accurate too. I got 99 attack first because I'd rather hit lower numbers more often, than shitty accuracy, and a high max hit. I'm 4 skills away from maxing, and defense will be the last one I get.

@@Purge5165the few people who could make rune 2h in 2003/2004 were making absolute bank. But ever since dragon equipment and membership came out it’s been a dead skill. All rune should be craftable at 85 and something new should be available at 92-99. I would say dragon items but it would destroy their current prices. Would be nice to be able to mine a new ore at 90 mining as well. Smithing’s only purpose these days is cannonballs, putting items together and maxing.

@@Purge5165Yeah, it’s a skill that has a lot of vestigial issues, that don’t translate well into the modern game. It’s cool that each level offers a new smithing option, but, I always felt it would have made more sense if levels unlocked all 1 bar items, the next few levels were all 2 bar items, and so on, with plate bodies and legs being the hardest to get to. It’s always blown my mind that it takes thousands of bars, to get to smith plates, and then your next unlock is just… dagger… I think bar tiers is a better system, and would be healthier for both time, irons, and skill progression - locking dragon and end-game stuff at the more appropriate, higher levels.

Prayer is only important because combat is designed around it correctly. Overheads are good because of how combat works, if we didn’t have overheads the game probable had other mechanics to negate damage of different styles. It’s not as important as people make it. It’s only truly important up to 43, you can do most content without rigour, piety, etc.

Yeah farming is easy, and trees are an easy buyable daily. Expensive, but maxing my main and doing morning and night tree, fruit tree, and hard tree runs every 3 days or whatever with the occasional hespori on mobile took a little over a month to 99 A reasonably profitable 99 very easily turned into a daily chore and money sink. I think efense is underrated. Like in pvm you cant even eat, youll die if you dont have much defence. Also defense allows you and influnces all combat skillls. Like gl with zulrah with 1 def weather its range mage or meelee which isnt possible. Defense is actually S tier. Mage is A tier because to be honest mage sucks, like just use poh lol. Most of the time to lvl mage your high alching which is just boring and lame. To actually use magic in fighting will tear your wallet in half. Mage is good but its not s tier. I would say prayer is S tier because literally you cant play the game without it. Range is literally str and atk rolled into one and with distance, and its affordable compared to mage and you can train it using the traditional method and not just ge banking the entire time. Slayer should be improved. Hunter fletching herblore removed. Theiving when it comes to that dj khalid release is actually quite good.

I’m at 86 Hunter, and never actually trained it outside of birdhouses, to be fair; all my levels are from ToG, lamps, and quests, and even back in the day, I just never liked the skill very much. I feel like Hunter is kind of a neglected skill, and I’m glad it’s getting some attention with the proposed guild.

Slayer is F tier. You know those shitty 'quests' in other MMOs that only exist to put weeks or months of mindless grind between you and the actual content? The stuff that drove people that bounced off of that design went to Runescape to get away from? How about a whole skill that is basically just that, and you need to level it alongside combat as it is required to fight many of the monsters with decent drops even though it is implemented in a way to where "Oh, you did enough dragon and demon etc. tasks that now you're somehow capable of fighting this new monster that you weren't allowed to damage before" but the dragons and demons and such you fight only count if somecunt tells you to kill X amount of them so if you're just killing whatever monsters you want to in this fantasy game now you're playing the game wrong as you're not training Slayer and killing the monsters the game wants you to kill. There's a case to be made for never leaving F2P because you can just train your combat on whatever you feel like without having Slayer hovering over you saying "NoOo You have to wait for the correct task before you're allowed to kill these things you're losing XP!!!" Slayer can get fucked I'd rather have Runecrafting again than have that hanging over the entire PVM experience.

I’d personally put it at C, because Strength is still overrated, and it makes people get sweaty over 1-2 extra damage. Hitting big is great and all, but your accuracy is more important, at the end of the day. All the AR on your gear factors into your accuracy, and as such, factors into your DPS, so, yeah, it really is more important than a strength bonus in some cases. I might be bias, because I got my Attack to 99 first, so, there’s that… but… I also have played Diablo 2 for decades, and anyone who’s played D2 can verify that a high proc chance, with a high accuracy skill/weapon, is MUCH more valuable than just a few points of raw damage… Zealots and Fury Barbs know what’s up…

@hinimaas as person whose attack is higher than strength, you couldnt be more wrong. strength is way better than attack. you are pretty much at peak accuracy once you hit 90 attack and anything after that is just marginal improvement whereas better strength means better max hit and faster the monster/ boss dies. so i say, get 90 attack and forget about attack and focus on strength till u hit 99 str

@@vivejk4443 My attack and strength are equal, mate, at 99 (as of now). You're still wrong, though, and my max hit is barely noticeable. You're not factoring in RNG, and things like prayer buffs, potions, weapon stats, boss stats, if you're flicking or not (essentially latency in some cases), and if you've used something like a BGS or DWH. There are tons of smaller factors at play, man, and it essentially makes your attack, and ensuing AR bonuses MORE important than a flat strength bonus. I'm still right. RS isn't a game that's combat is facilitated on DPS, it's a game built on real-time combat, with RNG elements - this isn't a hot take, it's just the truth. I'll use my Diablo 2 example again: you can max a character out with plus-skill gear (gear that increases your stats, in soft point form), have a weapon that has high flat-damage, be maxed in your build's stats... but do absolutely abysmal against certain areas and bosses, because you're thinking with the "Big Number" mentality. The game is also tick-based, as well, so I feel it's a good comparison. If a weapon in D2 gives you 25% chance to inflict double damage, but has a low attack rating, you need a higher AR, to take advantage of the bonus to raw damage. Once you find the balance between AR and DPS, your character becomes infinitely more stronger, as you progress, using things like buffs and skill/gear synergies. It's EXACTLY the same philosophy for OSRS: find the balance for the situation, that benefits your stats. DPS is created by formulas of your AR, mate. You're just wrong, I'm sorry.
