The entire point of Emilia rebuking Subaru was because in that timeline, she’d only failed the Trial once, and Subaru was already offering to do it in her stead. Subaru’s treatment of Emilia as a damsel & how toxic it was was kind of the point of Season 1. Now this Season is having Emilia face her own problems & past herself. Subaru fell into old, bad habits in that scene because he was cornered and got rightfully called out.

People like to call Emilia useless but she's only "useless" because Subaru wont let her do shit. Its confirmed that Emilia would have easily beaten those mabeasts in the forest from Season 1 if Subaru didnt convinced her to stay in the mansion, so technically thanks to her Rem got character development. And remember when they were at the village fighting the cult members and Emilia stepped in? Well Subaru tried to stop her at that moment too and now he's also trying to stop her from doing the trials.

She was the one who found the dog that cursed Subaru (which is great foreshadowing since she now turned out to be a mabeast tamer) and they did say she was alone a lot to single her out in your mind. Spoiler Warning: Having read the LN's I actually think this arc is more about Emilia developing as a character rather than Subaru. True, just like in every other arc, Subaru has to do things to progress the plot, but he really doesn't "change" that much you know? Emilia is the one who comes out of this arc the most changed. That's a very good observation that she's being kinda useless and a pain in the ass and Subaru straight up tells her so in the final loop of the arc. Once she realizes this, she kinda snaps out of it and grows up a bit. So i guess what I mean to say is: good observations, that's definitely a running theme of this season.

@@mohammedjohn2811 i would suggest taking a break from anime for a while, its supposed to be for entertainment and if you watch too much it becomes exhausting/boring, so just try a different medium for entertainment and later when a hype anime comes out use that to transition back into anime that you didnt watch or want to watch

I understand why you might have misunderstood Emilia when she said "what would be left of me then" So lemme just briefly explain it. No, it's not that Emilia doesn't want to save the villagers. Emilia wants to protect the villagers with all her heart and she promised the villagers that SHE is going to save them by attempting the trials and she wants to also show them that she isn't a witch beyond their control(their words, they are the ones who want her to show them that she is a normal human... Well half human being lol). So when Subaru offered to do the trials for Emilia(literally right after he told her that he believes in her) she felt like a burden and as someone who isn't to be trusted with anything. Also, it's not like the villagers are dying BTW. It is guaranteed that the villagers are gonna be kept safe as long as Emilia is taking the trials. Emilia wants others to trust her and believe in her. Common how can you judge her like that when it's that simple? How can you call someone useless when they are facing something that literally gives them trauma and mental anguish? Good vid anyways, enjoyed it a lot lol.

Yeah, but she's totally fine with letting the refugees leave while she keeps attempting the trials so that kind of falls apart. Remember when Garfiel guides Subaru out of sanctuary with all the refugees? She didn't have to beat the trial to let them out at that point. If she was more consistent then I'd be able to understand that point better

Like, she wouldn't want them to stay because they could leave without having someone attempt the trials. She believes that the trials are her responsibility. The next loop is a different story though because Garfield wouldn't let the villagers leave because of his distrust of the witch's scent. I am pretty certain that Emilia would still want the villagers to be freed from the sanctuary if there was another way, but she believes that she is able to achieve it by doing the trials because she doesn't want to be a burden anymore to anybody. Edit: I know it's kinda hard to understand Emilia's thoughts and actions atm. But worry not, they will be explained in the second cour. Emilia isn't the cleverest and doesn't understand things like other people do and for a good reason that will also be explained. So pls don't lose hope! Re zero arc 4 is still only half done. Well as someone who reads the novel.. That is the point of Arc 4, Emilia's character development (and also Subaru's views on RBD). Looking forward to the last episode next week. Can't wait until the 2nd cour on January 2021. Edit: Apparently, if covid had not delayed the anime's release, it would have ended on Emilia's birthday September 22 with episode 26.
