I think you forgot a real big one to look for when buying any used quad or dirtbike and that is jb weld or any damage to engine case in front of sprocket unless you know how to rip a engine apart to fix like we can that’s a very expensive bike shop fix lol but great video dude we check exact same shit lmao

You got a like and a sub from me brother I bought a 2003 400ex last week I plan on doing a full resto and didn’t know really anything about sport quads but have very basic mechanic skills but I don’t think I got did wrong I paid 1,000 looked pretty good but the bottom half of the motor was leaking oil but I tried to look it over bike wasn’t bent or rusted enough to cause damage just surface rust. I took everything off the quad besides the engine and a few suspension things but after watching this and using what you taught me I feel like it’s a pretty good bike I could have got it down to maybe 800 but you live and you learn ! I hope this turns out to be a bad ass quad and not to much trouble!

I’ll be going through the bottom and top end next Saturday just to make sure everything looks ok and in working order see what needs to be replaced etc. any tips or tools I specifically need to work on the engine? Like I seen the case splitter I’ll get one of those for sure! Do you happen to have a video of you pulling the bottom and top and redoing both from scratch??

@devinwilkerson4098 I have a splitting cases video. Then a part 2 installing crank bearings and building the Trans then putting the cases back together. As far as the top end goes u can find more then 3 different videos for a 400ex on my channel. Just scroll through my videos. I'll make a Playlist of all 400ex content this week and compile it all

Bought a TRX450 back in June that was a giant pile of junk. Was missing many parts & bolts & yes motor mounts. Had to rebuild the entire bike damn near. Has a brand new engine. Only prob is nobody sees the time money & effort that went into making it right again & wont pay what it cost to rebuild let alone make money on it 😒

Good video. Deff clapped bro. Oh go rewatch when u pull the cardboard out, there's small rot holes in the frame near right foot peg. I seen 2 holes, could be more but yeah now he's getting into frame welding, structure integrity down the road? He got beat for sure, I'd part it out. Trans should be like 300, cam, exhaust, bars, other engine parts, cases etc he could make his money back at least, maybe enough to buy a 450r?

For sure there is some value just from the swing arm and oem carb for starters. Would take a min to part it out, but could maybe break even.

I’m fairly new to the hobby, have bought two sport quads and been ok. This thing, oh my, did the buyer test ride it or check anything at all? I mean, I’d think Stevie Wonder could detect at least some of the issues. Lol. And $1,500???!! Oh my. Buyer is even crazier for trying to save it imo. Cutting the losses and moving on seems like the best solution imo.

I just got a hunk, for something to do, but i believe its in better shape although i have to wrestle the swingarm out. $900 and i drove from north of buffalo ny to ashtabula ohio. We will see...fingers crossed i just havnt started yet

Ive had sellers ask me to leave before and ive had a few tell me the machine was no longer for sale because i was checking them over to the point they got uncomfortable with it and i been doing this 20yrs now so i know depending on price what to expect and depending on machine because shit like a 400 is a dime a dozen while some are more rare so what u get for the money varies but this machine here i wouldnt gave 500$ unless it was full of aftermarket parts that could fetch a profit if it were to get parted out

Hey man. I’m from Michigan working on an early 2000 400 ex. It’s my friends quad. Trying to find a head and valve cover for it. He doesn’t have a lot of money but he loves his quad. Do you have a left side crankcase half for an 05 and up? Just split my cases and found out someone ran the top chain guard bolt through the reverse boss on the inside

@@garagemcmatt I found my left off eBay the guy actually split it. Some moron ran the chain guard bolt all the way through the reverse boss. The other case half the right side was perfect. Looks like the left is harder to find probably due to it being chain side. Sorry I couldn't help you out

Some people just sell junk. Buying something that needs work is fine nothing wrong with that but atleast be upfront about it and price it accordingly
