The funniest thing that’s happened to me since starting commissions is when someone tried to PayPal scam me, but they accidentally sent me a message that was meant for later in the process, where they’d already ‘sent the money’ and were very angry that whoever they were messaging wasn’t sending it back. I already knew it was a scam, but watching them panic and delete the message when I called it out was very funny.

I've been tipped at the end of a commission before, but typically the tip is upfront. HOWEVER they rarely *tell me* they're going to tip, it's just a nice surprise!

Another thing they may do is have some wildly obscure bank because if you have the same bank the check clears a lot faster in the system

The best part of these scams for me, and this has happened three times, is the scammer sending me cartoony furry art I made for my friend (because it's my most interacted with post) and asking for hyperrealistic art of their son and his dog (it's always their son and his dog, one time it was a lizard instead)

These scammers just think people are financially illiterate I guess. After the chase bank scandal, I get it tbh. That scammars eyes probably turned to dollar signs when the artist said she was unfamiliar with checks.

2:20 no way! I was almost scammed this same way. They said that they knew and were recommended to me by my ex, which the thing was they did have each other friended so I thought it was no big deal. He asked for a commission for his son of a couple of anime characters that ended up being around $80 but the only way he could pay was through a mobile check. A little glad I didn't go through with it.

This check method is used by people giving false jobs. I had this happen to me this year. Out 2k because of it. Sucks. Lesson learned. Def not something I was expecting in the career field but it happened...

As someone who actually cannot link their Bank account with their PayPal anymore, these people are the reason I just don't even try to commission someone anymore 😅

If you could manage to, some artists accept comms through Ko-Fi! So if you can have your bank or stripe linked through kofi then you can pay them.

A scammer would fall flat when trying this check method on me because if they "accidently" send me 1000 instead of 100 Dollars good luck in trying to guilt trip me because i dont even have 900 Dollars on my Account to pay the difference not even close to that amount actually im poor AF 🤷♂

When I hear apps to send money for commissions, I only think of PayPal. For me it seems like the default app to use idk why.
@rottencorpse...2 күн бұрын
Guys, please generally dont trust accounts that have nothing on their profile and directly come to you without having interacted with you before at all. Also, big red flag is if they dont follow you and aren't familiar with your commission system at all.

It's not about being nice but naïve. Some people simply don't think about scams or think it'd never happen to them.

A month ago, I was struggling to make my light bills, and I opened emergency commissions. The details were that I only accepted Paypal payments, I was only drawing in a specific style, and I wasn't going to bend on that. One guy stood out to me because he did something similar with a banking app. He also offered a ludicrous ammount of money for a art style I wasn't offering in those emergency commissions. It just seemed a little too good to be true, so I told him that I wasn't going to use the banking app he was recommending, likewise I wasn't going to do a realistic portrait because I didn't have the time or spoons for something that time consuming. He proceeded to ghost me after I put my foot down, which just confirmed to me that it was a scam.

i keep getting twitter messages from random accounts asking me to redraw 2 katara (from avatar) pictures in my style. they dont know any of my info, they obviously never even seen my rules or what i provide, make me do all the work figuring out exactly what they need only to tell me they cant use paypal. i was like yeah.. no... it was weird the first time but then it happened again with a 2nd account for the same thing! xD thats when i was 100% sure it was a frikken scam the 3rd time i didnt even reply to them i just blocked em

yikes!! I also got a dm from a katara scam as well a month ago. There had been some katara scam going on lately unfortunately, I almost got scammed by one of them out of $30 and had to close my business account because of it. Crazy that the scammer accused me of "bad behavior" when they're the one trying to scammed me LMAO😭

i would just wait until the payment fully processes until i send them money... if it says it didn't go through bc it was fraudulent then i'm not giving them my money lol also if they're writing the check, it wasn't an accident for them to write one thousand on the check as well as 1,000, so they wouldn't even have that as an excuse. My favorite thing to do is let them send the check, pretend u cashed it, then when they ask for some back i pretend to be the scammer now and refuse😂 or block then after the check is forst sent like I'm just taking the money and running. Let them waste their time

i had an instagram art-account like before this ai-shit started, once while i never had done anything with paypal i got a comm to draw an animal, i tought i would be smart: "hey i charge 25€ for a drawing" they "send" me 300 (they insisted to pay 30 even after i literally said 10 times only 25)and sendet me a picture of oh they sendet u 300 and they need that back , I CAN BE HAPPY THAT MY SISTER KNEW PAYPAL, she said, nah that cant happen like that, and the email needs to get to me in german since i did not put english as language, also the email looked sus for her, since the real paypal has no weird numbers. Iam so friggn glad for my sister fr. Some time later some other random account tried the same method. after that i never did comms, i mean never had comms and my two first "customers" beeing scammers hurt so much i decided to just stop and never try again...
