Bro, I’m in the middle of a lawsuit with my landlord after they refused payment unless I paid an extra $200 right now, just paid the court to start the process. Last Monday I had to make a rent payment to the courthouse and found out a scammer got my card over the weekend, bought $300 of IHOP and Chinese food and now I gotta scramble for a new roof over my head. Been living in hotels that cost 3 times rent because I had to fix my credit score after the ID theft since the thieves also applied for a bunch of loans with my info. Then after I finally fixed that I found out now my old landlord is telling any place I apply to that they want me to pay them thousands for the months after the filing, 2 out of 3 I paid them so I could appeal the eviction I just found out was filed AFTER I paid them the extra $200. So I still can’t get approved until I contest that in court. Life is fucked right now.

Had something similar happen to me some weeks ago: I was grocery shopping and a guy came to me asking for a donation for a mute/deaf people association, and between absent mindedness and hope there's decent people around that need help I ended up forfeiting 20€. Got scammed recently in toronto. There was a kid who got “kicked” out of a taxi and begged me to pay for his ride so he could get home. Like 9k likes. only 20 comments that were suspiciously all positive. And the “mr beast” channel only had 17k subs. Not to mention all the other red flags. Like that the video was only 17 seconds. The actual mr beast wasn’t in the video. They were really hard to try to get you to click on a link. Etc. So honestly anyone who falls for a scam like that definitely doesn’t deserve it. But at that point if they’re that gullible they shouldn’t be on the internet because you could probably convince them the sky is falling and in order to stop it they need to give you idk 1,000$ and they would believe it.

Here where i live in Spain, we went to an ice cream place and every 2 minutes, random and different scammers would pass through the street. One of them selling blankets (the money would get used to get higher than an F-16), another one asking for money for gas or something, and the most outrageous one was one that said that down the street were her kids starving, so she needed money to buy food. Luckily, my parents just have this hability to avoid scammers without much trouble. They just say "I have nothing on me, I'm sorry. God bless you" and the scammer just insists and then nothing else, they just walk away without money for crack.

As soon as I heard your story of being scammed by a crackhead, it reminded me of that time I gave homeless woman a 20 Swedish crowns. Just remembered how scared I was when she started following me on the bus just to double check if I really had a 100 Swedish crowns, I thought she was going to follow me all the way home, nagging.

Hell, I lost my steam account abt 2 years back. It’s like all the “steam employees will never ask for your password” disappeared from my mind. Luckily, this was back when I was broke asf and didn’t have a paypal linked to it, so the worst I would’ve lost was all the games. That woke me up so hard I get plain NASTY with scammers now.

I once got scammed into sending photos of yk what, and I was scared when the scammer was threatening to send to family and friends. I looked up what to do and it said to not give in so I prayed to God that would work. Fortunately, it did and I never had to worry about it again. Hope this helps for anyone

Speaking from personal experience, the emotional damage of getting scammed can be way higher than the financial damage. I lost a phone, yeah, but I was so ashamed that I don't really talk to anyone about that particular experience lol.

Where I'm from, it's common for people to pretend to be homeless and beg on the streets. One guy from my hometown got caught driving his Mercedes after begging in the street all day. The car was parked round the corner from where he was hustling
