Believe it or not, as primary school kids we were actually allowed to descend the valve shaft by a cage lift to see part of the valve mechanism. The adjoining dam contains lots of chambers full of fancy measuring equipment monitoring earth movements. Fascinating stuff for a ten-year-old boy.
