As a SCAMP camper from 2015, everything Howard and John say here is true and then some! I knew zip before starting my boat, and did get all of the skills to build and complete the boat. And yeah, at the end of my build I wish I had the skills at the beginning!! Also, definitely I keep in touch with my fellow SCAMPers and John and Howard. My boat is a delight. I sail her all the time. Such a great design. And John and Howard were so helpful after the camp when I had questions. They were immediately responsive. SCAMP camp was a life changing experience. Do it if you can. Life is short.

Thank you guys for the great video. Thinking about building one so all the information is precious. Amazing feat on the strait of magellan!

I'm waiting for the plans to be published. I bought the Pathfinder plans because I wanted a bigger boat than the Scamp, but it's not the right boat for me. The Scallywag will be perfect, and not just because it will be easier to build in my garage than the Pathfinder. I also have Ian Oughtreds Caledonia and Fulmer plans, but they weren't right for me either. I need a boat for Canadian prairie and mountain lakes that are shallow, rocky, and very windy, with few beaches and no ramps or docks, and zero services. Something with shelter when it starts to hail in summer. A boat that can be beached on gravel with little damage. Something stable, tough, versatile, relatively spacious, with shelter... and fairly "quick" to build. And I also want to enjoy the build. I'm looking forward to the Scallywag!

I couldn't help but laugh at this because you are spot on. I bought the Pathfinder plans and after lofting the midsection station and transom onto bare plywood sheets I thought...perhaps a Navigator was plenty big, because this thing is a wooden homebuilt tall ship...lol and was going to eat my entire 20x24 garage while building.
