It's a done deal. The Labour led council complained about lowering house prices for the rich pensioners in Scampton village, landlords on the old camp accommodation not being able to find tennants and investors being put off the site but the Conservatives laughed and signed it off, knowing the people of Scampton will vote for them again whatever they do.

They are not Asylum seekers, they are illegal economic migrants, most of them not escaping war torn countries but places like Albania. Mostly well dressed young men you rarely see women or children. This has been allowed to go on for years and it affects the applications of people who want to settle legally in this country. Now they want to use a historical RAF landmark to house these people?! What concerns me about this issue is that our culture and history is being gradually eroded. This has obviously come as a shock for the local people and maybe it might be better to somehow preserve the heritage. It seems to me that whenever I look at the news we are almost under attack from those who govern us, our heritage, our wish to drive, the way we refer to people (all this gender pronoun malarkey), failing police, a collapsing economy, a Government that seems to be riddled with contradictions. Why are people interviewed so concerned and showing a degree of sympathy with these 'criminals'? Lincolnshire is the fourth most deprived area in Europe. I wouldn't call it majority middle class. It has the least funded emergency services and transport/road infrastructure in the UK. The site and area due to lack of resources (health care etc) just isn't practical, safe or humane. A huge levelling up opportunity to provide much needed jobs/opportunity in aerospace/education/industry/hospitality as well as to preserve the history and heritage of the site, whilst also keeping runway operational was ready to go and would be lost. The secretive nature of this by the government was exposed by a local journalist only 24hrs after the public announcement of the levelling up deal was made. A deal which had taken 6 years to bring together and now potentially lost less than 24hrs later.
