This is why you don't ever leave handcuffed prisoners alone. They can get the cuffs in front of them and work at escaping by either picking, shimming or cracking the cuffs off. Handcuffs are a only a temporary restraint decice for supervised prisoners. The real world is not TV.

I've been in and out of jail my whole entire life went to prison for two years I've seen just about every make and model of handcuffs that the police have at their arsenal and I'm here to tell you those handcuffs are no longer used the handcuffs they got today are link together sorta like a door hinge the mechanicals are no longer built the same exact way now have a double lock feature on it that prevents people from picking the handcuff lock and if you are caught trying to pick them then they put on you what they call the little black box which prevents you from being able to get to the keyhole where you put the key in looks good but put some modern-day handcuffs on that man and he wouldn't be able to get out of him guarantee

You can take your pen apart and use the end of the ink shaft part by cutting and bending out a small piece to mimick the key. If you have a handcuff key its a hallow tube with a small piece at the end that makes it kinda L shaped. If handcuffed correctly you may not be able to do any of this by yourself the key hole will be on the side of your hand that your fingers don't bend towards. I'll have to try it out. But you could always break the cuffs if they're chain linked.

Bobby pins work great as shims and are easy to hide. You can even bend one end into a pick for the double lock.

I was watching this because I just found "Scam School", and it was next in cue. Digging the video's,BTW. I wanted to add, what we are taught in S.E.R.E,in the US Army is another way to defeat cuffs, and that is by,in effect, rotating the cuff's chain links,until you can obtain a 'lock' of them, then you can break the case hardened 'pin'(is that the right word...I cant remember anymore) SOMETIMES you might NOT shear the pin, BUT, the chain link(s) themselves will break,but,either way,you still have your hands free again. I am sure there are video's of this, but I was too lazy to take the time and check.Sorry.

The one thing that was not shown in this video is the lock that prevents shims from working. The point on a handcuff key is to lock the ratchets in place so they do not get tighter on the person. This is done by placing that point into the top hole of the cuffs.

Its not comfortable to do, but you can reach it (unless they use those side by side ones up from your elbow joints, or 2 pairs or something.) Hell you can just tumble them to front with some practice(you need flexible spine or long arms, or ability to dislocate a joint(auch)). Takes some time alone, and couple other lucky circumstances. If they chain you to a pole or something, you just have to relay on your fingers. Also you can usually slide the cuffs up and down or even turn them.

I learnt about the mechanics from a tiny plastic cuff keychain I had when I was little. The only difference was instead of a key unlatching the groove, there was a little lever on the cuff themselves because it was just an accessory. I'm sad I don't know where it is anymore. =(

Everyone is so stupid. For double locked all you do is push the pin on the side in. You do this in the cruiser while the cops aren't watching and your back is against the seat. Doing this behind your back isn't very hard. It's the same as if it was in the front just without being able to see what you're doing

@@JarrodAllenSmith I can pick double lock Smith & Wesson cuffs along with other brand cuffs that I know officers use within a few seconds behind my back with items I have on my person that to 98% of officers would be considered invisible because everyone has it lol I have a collection of cuffs and after practice, I'm at the point where I can get out of them around as fast as it takes for them to unlock it with the key. If I were to get arrested (which I don't see why I would) the cuffs would be more of a security blanket and part of procedure than a real restraining device. It is the basic idea of just because someone can get out of it doesn't mean they always should lol

This technique would not work if you are arrested. It is for escape artists. When we cuff someone up, we always double lock the cuffs and make sure the key port is up and away from the hands. They can still be picked, but it is MUCH more difficult then what is shown here.
