How to use the Epson FastFoto Scanners (ff-640 and ff-680) to quickly scan hundreds or thousands of snapshots into your computer. Includes the ability to enhance the photographs, including restoring some of the faded color as well as reduce red eye or improve density and contrast. Can also be setup to detect and capture writing on the back at the same time. Scans as fast as 1 3x5 per second. Complete workflow walk through.

I've been testing FastFoto versions 2.19, and cannot find any real changes to scan quality or the File size bug problem. I still need to verify if the auto enhance feature for the 680 might work better with this new version.

This was great.. thank you for seeing that glitch and confirming that the output files should be transferred and translated through lightroom for the actual working library.

Wayne, thanks for all your work -- I hope you're still monitoring the channel? My wife just passed away and I'm sitting on 39 years of photos to scan so you have me tempted to buy the FF-680. My only question is have you ever considered comparing it to other brands? At one point I was going to buy the Fujitsu ScanSnap? Canon also has one that isn't a flatbed. It would be interesting to see a comparison.

Be interested in seeing how you set up a NAS personal cloud system. I've been wanting to set one up but am a little intimidated as I am not an IT guy.

Looks great. Looking to buy 680 and scan a bunch of APS prints with the date/# on the back. Would it be possible to use tesserect to scan the "b" image for the date/cartridge number and change the "a" filename?

Hey Wayne - EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!! Does the 640 have the same software saving and file manipulation options as the 680? I've found a slightly used 640 for sale (much less expensive) that I'm considering, but would really like all the functions you've shown on the 680.

How do you add additional photos to an existing folder? I have a folder for dad's birthday, I found more photos (at a later time) from the same day. How do I put additional photos in that same file folder?

I've seen a lot of people say that the ff-680 produces marks or etching on the photos, have you seen this happen?
@cwaynefox

I haven’t. But I mainly scan old color snapshots which have a textured surface. The scanner does include a special sleeve to protect glossy or more delicate papers such as black and whites.

Nice video Wayne ..Thinking of investing in one of these scanners ... Trouble is i have a lot of high quality slides that i need to digitise also ... i appreciate trhat i would probably havre to invest in a good quality flatbed such as a 600/700 epson in order to scan those ... with regard to my actual photos, some are snapshots and others are 'proper' photos ... Will the 680 give me decent enough quality for archive ... I guess once the photos have all been scanned you could always select certain individual ones from that to scan with the flatbed at a higher resolution should you wish to print at larger sizes ? .. Wonder what your thoughts were ?
@cwaynefox
@cwaynefox 3 жыл бұрын
The flatbed will definitely give a better scan, but not sure it translates to much of a gain in making prints. I have a video that compares this here kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIPTiKKQeLOqqNE which might be helpful. Certainly using the flatbed for more important images is a good option if you can afford both. But the v600 should do a nice job with the slides (although little slow). There are much faster options for slides, but certainly don't offer the same quality as a good flatbed.

no, just save to jpeg. Nothing really gained by saving to Tiff and and recompressing, unless you are going to do some manipulating of the image in something like photoshop after scanning.

I purchased this a week ago. I have scanned pictures on other devices. I can't figure out where the photos are saved. It appears they only give you 2 choices. OneDrive and Google. I may have not had that as the setting and only one folder was saved to OneDrive. Since I scanned hundreds of pictures this is distressing. In addition, I was hoping to put them into Google Photos where I have most of my photos. The rest of my photos are in Picasa. (I do family genealogy. So......Once a folder of photos are saved can that folder be added to OneDrive(i.e.) if the setting wasn't right when scanned? Where did I scan the photos to if not in OneDrive. It says C: drive but I'm clueless. You said you use a product to revise your photos. How to you get your photos into that program? Thanks. PS It shouldn't be this difficult to do and more choice of cloud storage should be available Just my opinion.
@cwaynefox
@cwaynefox 4 жыл бұрын
You can set up your preferences to scan them to a local folder on your hard drive. That's what I do. I then import them from that folder into Photos for the Mac. I don't scan them directly to the cloud because I do some organizing and renaming them before I import them into Photos.

How do you get the scanned photos in Apple Photo? Do you have a video on that?
@cwaynefox

After I scan them into appropriate folders, I just import them from the file menu in Photos. I then change the metadata to move them to an appropriate "time". I'll try to do a quick video on that in the next few days.

have you tried something to face-recognize your photos? something like fotobounce, or tag that photo? Not sure if facebook or something could do it. My goal is to find a way to categorize by person all my 1000s of photos and then make that available to my family online.

@@cwaynefox There is one major drawback to using Apple iPhoto or Photos: any customization you do in the way of Face recognition, adding keywords or locations, et Cetera Will be lost forever you move to a different platform. Apple provides no way to export all of your photos at once. They have no interest in making it easy for you to switch to a different operating system. However, You can Control-click on the Photos library file and View Package Contents, then copy the folder (including sub-folders) to an external drive. But you will find that they are not organized in a way that allows you to tell which of the many subfolders you can keep and which to throw away. In addition, you lose all Face naming. A better way to get them out of the Apple software is to buy an app available on the App Store by the name of Photos Takeout. It will export all the Photos to a location of your choosing, and in addition it will create folders by year and months, or optionally even days. It is a new app with a few quirks, but are used it successfully after a couple of tries to export my 160 GB Apple Photos library.

@@midtoad that's not true bud. Go to GO, hold down option key and see libraries, then - application support-mobilesync-phtos-originals or show package contents. Check it out, it kinda varies on MacOS but the originals are there and you can just download it.
