A lot of commentators here need to read the rules. De Ligt is clearly offside. No discussion there. The discussion should be if he intends to participate (catch that pass) or not. I think it is clear he did, and went for the second play when he realized his teammate was better positioned. We see him make the run. He's looking at the ball. It's only natural and expected for him to go for it. Thus, he participated in the play even if in the end he did not get to the ball. It's offside. The ref did make a huge mistake, which was not to wait, but calling an offside was the correct call ultimately. Bayern was not harmed by this mistake.

BS. Everybody kept playing right up to the shot from De Light. They were playing and De Light scored that legit. Why would Bayern keep playing but not Madrid. Even Lunin was jumping around trying to track the ball and the shot was low and fast. I don’t he would have been able to drop quick enough and just let it go.

The detail is that you can not say that the ball was intended to reach LIGT or the other player , you don’t know whom of the these two players the ball was intended to reach . One of them was in an offside position . A the ball was moving towards one of these two Bayern Munich’s positions , either Light or the other Bayern Munich’s player (can’t remember his name ).that is why I think that the line referee a raised the flag , perhaps. Another small detail is that this play occurred at min 112 and the referee added 9 minutes . What was this ? a halft time when the added time was already over and delayed by 3 minutes.

If the line shown is accurate, then he is offside by his knee, shoulder and head. But, the linesman should have waited for the play to finish.

To summarize: De Ligt is offsides if he touches the ball. Impedes, blocks challenges an opponent for the ball. Blocks an opponent’s view of the ball. Or his team gains an obvious advantage by his offside position. So very discussable. But don’t believe me. Listen to the Pros. Practically every pundant and ex-ref have said that De Ligt was NOT offsides. Mazraoui might have been? Although without the actual VAR footage, that remains speculation.
