Scania 144 530 V8 won’t start TRYING BUT FALLING!

Second attempt at starting my Scania 144 530 V8
After my last video we we’re heading in the wrong direction, And decided to stop and try something else.
After visiting my friend Jamie McIntyre who has an engineering shop, custom-made and fabricated a pressurised fuel tank that we can push fuel, through the engine to get all the air out. 
But after missing a few things and looking back over the footage, we have made mistakes that will be reconnected . Pressure, stress and disappointment.
Like I say, oh, my content is real, nothing is staged or fake what you see is the real thing.

I feel you're pain Sandy we've had Foden's with Cat engines for year's and they are a nightmare to bleed that V8 is not common rail so you need to go old school. Never had any luck with small pressure pot's I always pressurise the fuel tank cap check stop solenoid just in case. If it was mine I would make sure filter is full of diesel and leave injector pipes 1 and 4 slightly open on the pump, pressurise tank with 2bar pump the primer with ignition on until you feel some resistance then crank engine over if diesel starts leaking out close the pipes, if it's stubborn I know it's not text book but squirt a bit of easy start in if it starts running it will pull the diesel through on it's own, good luck pal these things are sent to try us.

The reality of being a trucker m8. This was 1 brilliant video absoultely rooting for u bro. You really are good at makeing content this had me on the edge of my seat. 😂when u got the part had it filled i thpught game on hes gona do this then boom it nearly worked then it didnt then you tjought it might!! Have you checked the stop pin? most modern diesel engines seem to have an electronic solenoid which operates the stop pin. I've just gone right through the fuel system on a diesel engine, and still struggled to get it to fire. I was too busy worrying about bleeding the fuel system, and it turned out to be a bad connection on the stop solenoid. All good now, hope this helps you mate

I’m know HGV mechanic but I did do my apprenticeship on Land Rovers and some of the older engines could be a pig to bleed up, some fine and others a bastard. If we had this problem we would drag it around the yard with the ignition on and in gear until it fired… never failed!!

Sandy close everything up EVERYTHING…we’re the return pipe is coming from the engine on the passenger side at the chassis crimp it with a pare of pointy vice grips…slakin the 22mm banjo bolt on top of the filter,,,turn ignition on and pump to the fuel is running out the banjo…keep pumping and have someone tighten the 22 then go around and turn her over once she goes take the grips off the return…I normally turn the valve off at the bottom and blow air into the tank

Evening Sandy, your truck has the MS5 injection system so will have a solenoid valve bolted to the side of the pump that opens to let the fuel through, it’s given a 24v feed from the engine control unit pin 14 and is earthed to the chassis therefore the ignition needs to be on when bleeding up this system, the valve is held on with 2 little torx screws if I remember right and if you take it off you can push the pump side open manually with something like a screwdriver whilst someone else is trying to start it off the key, if the engine starts then you know you have a problem with the solenoid side, just a thought. Have you tried getting any flash codes from the dash, long flashes are equal to tens and short flashes are equal to single digits so 2 long flashes and 3 short ones will give a flash code of 23 etc… the fault code memory will only hold a maximum of 10 fault codes / flashes , if you get one long flash then no faults have been logged. Check shut off solenoid isn't stuck, try connect an auxiliary electric fuel pump on the line from tank just before the filter, also could try starting with easy start/brake cleaner aerosol just to try get her running it, if u get it running should pull through any air

Check fuel pressure solenoid, redo the pipes back up on the pump, prime as much as possible and crack the injector pipes (cyl head side) and crank over, when you notice fuel coming through nip the pipes back up, prime and crank her over again, you may need to crank over and prime at the same time 👍🏼

Hi sandy. Just a thought could the damaged turbo sent metal fillings into the engine damaging the inlet and exhaust valves. Keep your chin up think your doing an amazing job. 👍👍👍👍

Take the fuel line off the top of the fuel pump. (The tallest one ) then put a rag around the filler cap opening and blow compressed air in till it runs out the hose then get someone to screw it back in. Once you do that take injector line off one of the cylinders and prime it like crazy while you wind her over till you get fuel coming out of the top of the line you cracked Nip her up keep priming and she will go eventually they are a bastard when they run out of fuel ( speaking from experience ). Also the valve that the tallest pipe on the pump is to hold pressure in the pump so you don’t loose prime check it is not rooted

Maybe try patching in a little electric pump in the feed line I usually keep one on a patch lead in the van and just leave it pumping through for a while and I dare say rack won’t be stuck in pump as the fuels pumping out when you turn it over keep plodding away though mate the problem will come too light

Make sure the main fuel pipe from tank unit to filter has not been chaffing may have a pin hole in it and drawing air in the fuel system. Also take the tank sender unit out may be a filter on the end of it could be choked.

Probably wrong here but what about adding a ball valve to the base of your fabricated tank then presurise it and when turning over the motor let the ball value open to let in the fuel at a higher pressure

Just wondering if having the tank on its side could the fuel be only just at the neck of the outlet and still mixing with air? Turn the tank so its vertical and then all fuel will be at the bottom of the tank and air at the top to push down? Failing that....easy start..... good luck Sandy.

sandy just watch your video on the 144l reconnect all the fuel lines and with the vent pipe on the main tank use the air line to pressurise the fuel tank and bleed it up that way .make sure there is fuel in the filter and dont over do it with the air in tank hope that helps .the lift pumps are crap on those and not easy to get at

I feel your pain. Now start at Biggin.....tank, fuel lines.....ect. Then add pressure to tank to help bleeding Is all fuel filters and heads ok? Sorry if I'm only saying what have done. Sandy

Use a bottle or drum fill it with diesel let it gravity feed in sandy you can hook a return ti the same drum or contsiner worked for me

Are you on good terms with your local Scania dealer ?, if so give them a call and ask if they could print off the fuel system work description and system overview for a 144 from multi, it will show the fuel layout with all the valves.

If you need to get fuel up to the pump..I have a fuel cap with a air coupling on it ,i plug in a regulator and an airline and push he fuel up that way ,generally .2 bar ,but scania may be higher i don't know......With it being a V8 i do not know if it is newer motors or it affects older models ,so maybe check with scania but on the newer motors they use delphi injectors and they are prone if not treated delicately to failing

Hi mate just try a electric fuel pump on the main fuel line on the tank with the injectors undune mate when the fuel comes through tight the injectors up fit the tank pipe back to the tank crank her over it's worth a try mate good luck

Hi , tilt cab more and hang a clear 25 ltr drum of fuel from it to create gravity then put a rubber hose in drum then fit directly onto that feed at front need to suck through fuel , fill the drum up a good bit then put air line in the 25 ltr drum and rag over top of drum i no need to be high pressure then you are pushing fuel directly into system . If its firing fuel out on all 8 Then connect up injector pipes and leave one open and try to start ?.

Just get a ordinary tractor lift pump put it in the fuel line and pump it by hand. That should get the fuel up. Or a electric fuel pump.

put back together blow air into it fast tow bedind your other truck with 1 injector line semi loose on each bank ! 5 min tow it gets the air out easy! or you just wasted 1 hour
