On September 28th 2020 SCANIA launched their new flagship 770 S V8. With 3,700 Nm of torque, this is now the most powerful production truck in Europe.
They also gave power increases to their other three V8 engines, let's have a chat about them.

Personally I hope the rumors about Scania having 854 hp V8 engine were indeed true but in the end , it just a rumors.......now it just a matter of time , before Volvo launches their new " flagship" inline 6 engine.......and for sure it will be more than 800hp....... ...

I read about a 164 in a magazine that had 1000hp because he chiptuned the truck so gaining more power aint that hard with those engines, the same with my 2013 g440 it gas the exact same engine as the 480 only diffrent software

I'm not sure if it is a race i think it's development and what the customers are asking for . I remember in the 70ies my dad drove a Volvo F89 and the Scania had problems with their driveshaft and they would be replaced by the same driveshaft Volvo had . But thanks for the update on the Diesel side of life I enjoy them and I'm always looking forward to them . Three thumbs up and cheers 👍👍

I used to love my bunk above the windscreen of my 164. Did have a different set of lockers and proper fridge and freezer. Even a tv and hold it.... video cassette player... considered absolute top luxury back in the day 😂

Imagine what Volvo and Scania could come up with together. Scania engine with a Volvo drive train. I actually prefer the Volvo interior because I'm more used to it and also because it feels like you're sitting closer to the middle of the truck in a Scania so you don't have the same control of the side you're sitting on. I learned to drive in a manual FH 440 and FM 460 and now I'm driving a MAN TGX 26 440 for PostNord and a Scania G 450 for delivering laundry to the hospitals in the region. I don't dislike neither Scania nor Volvo. Volvo steering is a must have, though, since Scania are rather heavy when it comes to that and IShift is far superior to Opticruise in every way possible.

@@tntfreddan3138 I got my licenses in the military driving manual and opticruise scanias ranging from older two-axle trucks to brand new 4-axle ones. I've never been in Volvo truck but i've heard and seen plenty of great things about them. I currently drive a Mercedes Actros 2653 at work and i hate the transmission it has. Would much prefer a Volvo or even an Opticruise

Shame we can no longer get Scanias here in the US. Yes, cab overs can be a pain in the ass when it comes to making repairs, but that’s a small price to pay for visibility.

hi starvos i still drive a164 G 480 V8 Scania 2002, 8x4 logging truck in Nz .same as the one your in this video sleeper cab ,great truck, and that beautiful sound of the v8 .done about 1.3 mils kms. but still going strong , pulling at a total gross weight of 46 tonne truck and trailer , tempted to buy new scania, but my old girl turn key go to work home,

My preserved 1989 Dennis RS Fire Appliance has a V8. A Perkins V8 640ci which only puts out around 215bhp. Sounds gorgeous though coupled to the Allison Auto box.

Good job Stavros. I think the old school trucks with manual transmission, like the 164, would be more satisfying to drive, where the driver made the decisions. Nonetheless it would be interesting to see it on heavy haulage and see how it fares out. Are you back with RLT?

I would swap your S580 for the 4 series your driving. no adblue no digital taco no noise restrictions just straight old V8 witch you could put straight through pipes on with no hassle. Love ye video

Thank you for the good news @Stavros969 You suggest Volvo could be 3800 NM. If they can apply their Turbo Compound technology to this 800 HP engine (perhaps in a later evolution) they could go north to the magic 4000 NM. It's still burning dinosaur juice until everything goes electric though. :)

Hey Stavros, Sorry to be pedantic regarding the "Power race". You forgot that Scania & MAN came out with 680 horsepower V8's before Volvo came out with the 700 FH16. Obviously these came out to "better" Volvos 660 horsepower effort, which you did mention. Keep the videos coming, cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers.

I have a feeling the new Volvo may be about 790 hp and 3,750 Nm, since they've been increasing Scania's numbers by 20 hp (750 vs 730) and 50 Nm (3,550 vs 3,500). But I'm very curious to see what they'll come up with!

What is the difference between the letters in the 4 series? I have seen the 164 topline in L and G, same with the highline, also L and G.

L, G and D is the "type of transport" L and D is same as the scania truck code in nowadays. G is similar to C in PGRS range.

@@bm797 no But 4 series still have P, R and T in front of the number to distinguish the cab, but I don't know why they do not write it on the batch. So this 2003 4 series should call as R 164L And that Scania feature on top gear, driven by James May, is call P 94D.

The horsepower figures are irrelevant unless you’re pulling mega loads. You can only get up to 56mph before the limiter kicks in regardless.

@@mr.nobody5724 well I guess it all comes down to heritage and what these companies have been designing for ages. scania has so many decades of development invested in their V8's so it pays off for them in the long run. it would be too costly and difficult for say volvo, to come design a brand new V8 turbo diesel truck engine and be competitive. they stick to what they know.
