@@afrostigmeister lowdeck chassis allows you to have more internal space inside the trailer and keeping the same height. because if you want to carry taller pallets you can either spec a trailer with a higher roof or a lower bad. lower chassis and 5th wheel are very popular in europe due to height restriction and also makes it easier to go on a ferry compared to a 4.57m trailer

@@perlamiseriaccia Wow, I never knew that. I always just assumed truckers with low decks were just too look cool and sporty. Can you explain the pros and cons of articulated trucks vs rigid chassis trucks? And also the pros and cons of having tall big tires vs lower smaller tires? (I noticed that heavy haul trucks have very large wheels and regular truck wheels are smaller. Do taller wheels have higher load capacity?)

@@angrysocialjusticewarrior first of all to drive articulated lorries you need more qualifications (+E license), so if you do deliveries at shops or in tight places That might be more suitable for the job being smaller. The rigids will most likely do distribution, the artics however can do distribution or long haul trunking. The artic will also be more versatile since you need only 1 tractor unit that can be coupled with all sort of trailers, also you can carry 44t only if you have at least 6 axles so you do need an artic because a rigid with 6 axle is rare and they are only used for special jobs (like concrete pump trucks). After a certain length the artic is more manoeuvrable than a rigid. Tyres wise it all comes down to the driver/fleet operator choice, smaller tyres means you can have a lower 5th wheel so the the trailer's bed will be lower and you can raise the roof, increasing internal space but keeping it at the same height (4m for most European lorries) We don't have height limits in UK so we just use normal size tyres and if we need more internal space we can just get a taller trailer. P. S normally the big tyres can withstand more load than smaller once, that's why when the small once are used they're normally paired in twins, like the double deckers

Absolutely agree with you, regarding automatic transmission vs manual. You never want to go back to manuel transmission ........best automatic I drived so far is Volvo I-shift, but I love my today daily drive Actros 4x2 1833L 10,7L engine. Really like your videos......Keep on trucking

It's a really nice looking truck, very nice lines. Its predecessor always looked like they designed the cab and thought about the topline afterwards. I agree with everything you pointed out about the interior. I drove megaspace mercs and wouldn't want to go back to a smaller cab. It really does look like a good place to spend the working week. I always thought it was rather clever that Scania started to offer extra spotlights in a flush-mount sort of setup. Gets you a nice, clean, aerodynamic truck but still have the extra safety of a good set of high and low spotlights.

Just curious for trucks in Europe.. why do the trailers have only single wheels for them rather than other countries that have double wheels on their trailers. But the load they are carrying are the same 40ft containers!

In Germany for example, the max load on a semi-trailer setup is 40 tonnes, so the german trucks and many of the trucks that drive through germany from vestern europe, only have a 2 axle setup. In the scandinavian countrys the rules are different, so there's a lot of 3 axle semi's as the weigh limit is 56 tonnes for a semi-trailer setup. The standard setup for a trailer in europe, is a 3 axle, just like Stavros drives with for the most. I don't know the rules in UK and Ireland though

I'm a driver trainer I will always prefer the manual transmission but I'm a old school american trucker not a steering wheel holder or a peace of meat in the seat but I will be forced into an automatic because that's what the company is going to.
