Tobias Metzger I believe the one closest to the wheel is the emergency brake. Not sure about the other, could be axle lift, or retarder

One is Hand brake/Park Brake, one is Retarder.

Because the bonnet takes up space that couldve otherwise be used to transport goods. Also it is not practical on european roads. Especially old cities who still have their narrow streets.
