I've been reviewing the kickstarter, and for someone who wants a leverless controller for both Smash and FGC, it seems like an amazing choice, considering the button layout and how the software is customizable.
@fractal_aura Жыл бұрын
Even if you only want one for smash, this controller is 279 shipped and includes mechanical switch buttons at no extra cost; b0xx, the only competitor that's in-stock right now, is 379 shipped with mechanical switches installed, and does not support customizing button layout etc. the LBX would be the only one that would be a better buy if you only want it for smash, but they've showed no signs of selling them since late 2022. if you don't want to DIY this is probably the best purchase that could be made currently for any leverless smash controllers, along with the added value that it can be used for traditional fighters and other games. honestly when considering all that and the fact that the firmware is open-source, the value is pretty bonkers lol

@@jackfroster6174I mean if you don't know how to build a controller (which isn't easy for a layman) and can't find a modder (who doesn't suck, is in your price range, and doesn't have a backlog) then yeah you can definitely feel gatekept on an open source design.
@ecapsdira Жыл бұрын
@@nahometesfay1112well that's not gatekeeping, that's just lacking skills. you have to be specific with that term becauee it reflects poorly on people since gatekeeping means a community actively keeping people down. the phob community has been insanely helpful in my experience
@nahometesfay1112 Жыл бұрын
@@ecapsdira I'm not saying the people who make phobs are gatekeeping. Rather the current state of controllers is gatekeeping. This is NOT a matter of skill. How many top 20 players are building their own controllers? Expecting anyone who wants a consistent controller to build their own is unreasonable. There should be mass produced high quality controller. If they mass produce gaming mouses and gaming keyboards why not good pads?

That's what the modifier buttons (your left thumb controls those) are for! They're standard on leverless controllers for Smash, you can look into how the B0XX/F1/etc handle those if you're curious.

@fractal_aura Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'd hop on the kickstarter, kickstarter orders ship in April so they probably won't be available to order again until April, if not later. All the competitors have consistently, constantly been out of stock ever since they've been popularized; apparently the goal with Glyph is for it to be scalable so that at some point, when someone wants to order one, they can just order it and have it shipped immediately, however even best-case scenario I couldn't imagine it getting like that until at least summertime, and they might still have a similar (4-5 month) turnaround when that time comes, it's hard telling. I bought a hitbox in 2018 because I was interested in fighting games and wanted to use that particular style of controller; I've never regretted it, sort of wanted to upgrade for a while but wasn't sure what would be the right move. this jumps out as a particularly good idea just because mechanical switches, open-source firmware, and it can be used in smash. if you're interested in leverless/all-button controllers, I encourage you to try it out, it's been a game-changer for me with traditional fighters and really made me enjoy those games again. I'm assuming I'll have a similar experience with ssbm on leverless, but yeah you can never know til you try. I've never looked back since switching to hitbox for traditional FGs so if you feel remotely interested in leverless, I'm here to be the random guy on the internet saying "do it!" lol :D

Scar first got a b0xx, and later switched to a JunkFood Arcades LBX which can be briefly seen in many of the videos on this channel in the past 9 months. Scar still used a b0xx as of "THE RETURN OF THE READS", and I think he switched to the LBX around the time of filming the aMSa episode. I wanted to get whatever scar had too, but the junkfood LBX hasn't been sold at all in 2023, and they have no signs of being sold again. I tried to contact them in fact, to see if they would be having another drop anytime soon, or ever... no response. So if you're looking for a leverless SSBM controller approved by Scar, I would hop on this kickstarter; you've got about 36 hours as of this comment. This controller is definitely a better buy than the b0xx because you get mechanical keys with no extra cost, and as far as I know there are no software nerfs, plus the firmware is open-source and you can customize the controls etc

Cool box, really, I mean it. But let's not kid ourselves. There is zero reason for this to be $300. And after all that talk about how easy it'll be to get... Maaan just because it's available for purchase doesn't mean it's easy to get. For most of the FGC, $300 is a potentially life changing amount of money. Call me when a company is selling what is essentially just boards, buttons, and a case for a reasonable price. I don't care if it feels cheaper or looks ugly. I am 100% certain that a controller with all the same functionalities as this one could be sold at half the price and still make money.
@fractal_aura Жыл бұрын
hence the huge community of DIY makers who have guides online about how to build leverless SSBM controllers for like $60; this is aimed at people who don't have the time or know-how to DIY, and it fills a void in the market which obviously excites a lot of people, seeing as their kickstarter is over 100k now with a backing goal of 75k. a b0xx with mechanical switches installed and shipped is $379 ($389 w/ rush shipping), this controller is $279 shipped and it comes with mechanical switches by default, and also works on traditional fighters and other titles whereas b0xx is made solely for smash. The LBX was an even better value at $185 for a leverless ssbm controller with mechanical switches, but they have no signs of being produced and sold again currently. I do get what you're saying, peripherals for fighting games are getting mad expensive, but this is actually a pretty good value when compared to what else is available. I bought a hitbox for FGs in 2018 and I love it, but $249 is pretty outrageous for what it is and how little it likely costs to manufacture. At least the Glyph has the added value of multiple layouts and hot-swappable faceplates for those who don't want to rock the full layout. plus, the open-source firmware is a huge benefit imo

tell me you don't understand leverless controllers without telling me you don't understand leverless controllers. leverless haters have been using these same tired, uninformed arguments for years trying to delegitimize people who actually worked their asses off to relearn their favorite games with a new style of controller. these controllers do not cheat, use macros, or turbo. some people need these controllers for medical reasons, but really, people should be able to use these without judgment even if they don't NEED them. if you think leverless controllers are so much stronger that you can just win as if you're cheating, you should pick one up and start raking in the tournament winnings lol
