I bought this and an independent bottling of Caol Ila 12 Cask Strength and compared them. They are definitely related but the Caol Ila 12 CS was twice the price though it's a few steps better overall. This Scarabus Batch strength I prefer over Ardbeg Wee Beastie, Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig 10, and even Lagavulin 8 which surprised me. Turns out the IB Caol Ila 12 Cask Strength is my favorite heavily peated Islay I've tried to date.

@@EuropaWill I would compare it favorably, but then there are entire spectrums of Ardbegs, Laphroaigs, and Lagavulins, some better, some worse...

@@EuropaWill Interesting... The Scarabus has the advantage of 46% ABV over the Beastie, Ardbeg10, and Laphroaig 10, which could account for your preference, and Lagavulin 8, although it's good, is not my favorite Lagavulin... That being said, it's been a long time since I got back to Lagavulin 16.

The only CS Islay I have is Kilchoman Machir Bay. Paid around 45 euro for it. The non CS Scarabus I've seen selling for 35-ish euro.

@@WhiskyJason1 Cask strength version should cost more but I don't expect it to be above 45 euro. I'm not so sure if it will be imported in Bulgaria though.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Laphroig 10 year Cask Strength, but it's double the price.

Wow. You like this more than the 10 year. I really like batch strength whiskies too. The Ileach CS might interest you. Unfortunately I think it is coloured but I really don't care. It is fantastic. And it goes on sale in Alberta for $60 CAD often. Yummy.
