From the series' inception, each Assassin has had an outfit unique to them, and although outfit options have become more varied in recent games, the base robes of our protagonists have maintained their memorable factor. Pretty sure it's unfair to do Jacob, Evie and Arno like that. Yeah, they are wearing just jackets over suits but that's really understanding of the "Hide in plain sight" part of the creed. I mean really if you saw someone running around in Italian Renaissance clothing during the French Revolution or Victorian era you would've thought they were sketchy or crazy.

Agree!! Although this ranking is more on the first initial robes, Jacob's robes , The Baron Jordani Finery with the cape is I think the ode to Ezio's robes. It is more of what we'd come to expect from an assassin in Victorian London. I call it the Victorian Ezio robes. XD But to wear "robes" that don't hide in plain site...kind of defeats that tenant of the creed. Iconic not so much but that's not the title of this video.

I actually really liked the trench coat platform for arno and jacobs outfits, it was like a more realistic/modern iteration of the ac robes that still maintained that signature look, while also being believable enough that you could picture them walking down the street without drawing too much attention. Imo it was the right move to trade just the right amount of flash and style for a more grounded and believable look, but still with that essence of swashbuckling class. Still didnt like the tophat though, but other than that, i actually loved this whole concept.

Tbf i think it would break the disguise of hiding in plain sight if Jacob was not wearing a trench coat, he would stand out too much in a crowd if he wore robes in Victorian era England and too be fair an assassin in a trench coat is cool, it still has the flair just more robust

I like Jacob’s default outfit, the coat specifically. Totally modern enough that you can walk down the street with it, hood up, and no one would bat an eye. I definitely love the Volante Design Inc version of Jacob’s coat.

To me Ratonhakeaton (Conner) had the best robes, it has the classic white assassin robe look from 1 and 2. But they added a 1700s military coat style with a Native Mohawk tribe look. It combines all three of the heritages and to me it’s the best.

My biggest issue with the robes from AC2 and Brotherhood specifically is that you can never get them to look like they do on the cover art for the games. You can come close in AC2, but the forced bracer they make you have after getting the second hidden blade kinda kills it imo

While Jacob is far from my favorite, his robes were far to the Time period he was in and his role as an assassin. They suited the need of concealing his weapons and were actually unique and stylish. As time went on, I'd imagine as the modern age came upon on the brother their robes adapted just as their weapons would have.

Currently replaying Black Flag for the first time in ages, and I got to the mission where he added the leather armor over the robes and I was IN LOVE. It just looked so fucking sick, but now, I just unlocked the blow dart and it kind of just rests on Edwards back and really throws off the whole look, which really sucks.

Though I generally agree with the ranking, I think including only starter robes is poor idea. Adding the canonical master outfit, if the game has it, would not even change the to list that much in my opinion.

At that point Master Outfits should be it's own list, since everyone has them.

honestly, the whole “assassin robes” aspect of this series has been one of the sillier aspects of the series. wouldn’t real assassins NOT want to look iconic? seems like that having a recognizable BRIGHT WHITE costume would kinda fly in the face of the whole “blending into the crowd” idea of an assassin. now, i get that it’s a game and we all wanna play a cool looking protagonist, which is why i think the syndicate look actually works- it provides a cool aesthetic that actually manages to blend in with the people in the surrounding area. similarly, ac4 just gives us a bit of that pirate look without being overly flashy. throw in the hood and ok, i can get behind that. but honestly, the whole extravagant white robed look of ezio made me overlook these games as silly over designed tripe for the longest time because it just flew in the face of the idea that he would ever NOT immediately stand out in a crowd. it would be interesting if these games added in a bit more of a disguise element to the game play. not go full Hitman or anything, but make the traditional robes be more of a ceremonial costume than a practical one. i mean, it’s not just us the players who know what assassin robes look like, templars know what assassin robes look like too. it’s pretty impractical to try and hide in plain sight wearing EXACTLY what your enemy expects you wear, ya know?

You're definitely right I've just replayed AC2 and I've gotta say the robes aren't even the biggest hurdle when it comes to suspending your disbelief in these games. There's so much silly stuff going on in the cutscenes I was honestly quite in shock that i didn't remember how goofy these games could be But yeah, the outfits stand out a lot, but these games wouldn't be as iconic without them The one outfit i can kinda get behind is Altairs, since it's designed to mimic the white robes that scholars wore in the game thus letting you blend into a group of them, the rest of the games just kinda do their own thing

Respectable choice. Tbh I like it a lot as well. My favorites are Edwards and Jacobs, mainly because they both really make sense with context. Since Edward is mainly on the seas it qoukd make sense that it would be fitted for that and Jacob's fits the location and time, it being more modern so it would make him blend in better with the people of London

The ting with the Syndicate and Unity robes just being suits with a jacket, is that they need to blend in with the times. It’s kind of hard to blend in to the industrial revolution in something like Ezios robes, which are suited for his time. Just like how to keep with the traditional hooded robes and blend in, a modern day assassin (in my opinion) would have to wear a trench coat or even a sweatshirt over some pocketed cloths. They need to look semi normal on the streets.

Edward Kenway robes, with leather protections and multiple pistols, will always be my favourite. Just like the rest of the game they are a perfect meeting point between assassin and pirate. Such a cool outfit

Even though he wasn’t playable, I believe the best robes to ever grace the franchise were Basim’s robes. They were so reminiscent of Altaïr’s robes in their simplicity and colour, only with more detail and with the added black cloak that gave it a lot of flavour, and they also fit perfectly with the time period.

It always bothered me that the Brotherhood robes were seemingly chosen as Ezio's iconic look. The Giovanni robes are just so perfect to what Assassin's robes should be after Altair's era in the middle ages. They're subtle enough that they actually do fit in to the clothing of the time unlike the Brotherhood robes which stand out way too much IMO. Yet they're also still iconic and unique unlike Arno or Jacobs outfits which, as you said, are basically just regular clothes of the time but with a hood attached.

Giovanni’s robes represent Ezio’s heritage, his family, (heh) they’re unique to him and remind him of those he lost and made him what he became. The brotherhood robes are just generic Roman master assassin robes that even the recruits get when they reach max rank.

Jacob's outfit was made for the streets of Victorian England. If you saw someone in a dirty trenchcoat and a flatcap(not a tophat) in the streets of Victorian London, you wouldn't bat an eye. If you saw someone in bright white and red fineries that were so expensive that only the Royal Family could get their hands on it then you'd have some questions.

Honorable Mention: Shao Jun. Her robes are just beautiful to look at. The red and dark blue contrast so well, the Chinese floral pattern throughout on them to reflect her Chinese heritage, and the all around shape of them is just perfect. In Syndicate, I ALWAYS put evie in the shao jun robes. Definitely the best ones of the 2D games. Nikolai's look too similar to ezios and in India they just look plain and boring

Connor’s robes are my favorite, cause it’s still recognizable as Assassin robes but incorporates elements of his culture with the beading and feathers. I think a great set of Assassin robes blends in with the time period while still being recognizable as Assassin robes.

Personally... my favorite robes in any of the games was the Armor of Altaïr from Assassins Creed II. The white and red of the Giovanni robes looks great, but the black and gold of that sweet lookin armor? To me, it’s a good mix of true assassin robes and armor that’ll protect Ezio practically, while not holding his movements back. Also, the armor of Altaïr paired with the sword of Altaïr? 🔥

I loved how every iteration prior to syndicate had its own spice to it based on the setting and time of the game’s region. It’s sad that with everything else bedsides origins they not only strayed from the AC name but we didn’t get a Viking themed robes or Greek themed robes etc

Wdym Arno's default novice robes are dope af I wish there was change skin like in Valhalla so I could have maxed out armor but using skin of the default one

For me, I love Edward Kenway's outfit and Bayek's outfit the most. They are so unique. But I also love Arno's clean blue outfit with white guns. It just looks clean. Shay isn't really an assassin but I reckon his outfit is cool but would be better with a hood, like in all the promotional stuff for the game. Ezio and Altair's outfits are just so classic, you really can't hate those. I also really like Eivor's outfit, mainly because I am so into Vikings and the hood and hidden blades on the top instead of underneath is so good looking.

Unpopular opinion: I loved Shay's assassin robes

A big L for putting Jacob, Evie and Arno so low in the list. I think all there outfits were amazing as they looked cool while not looking too flashy, a whole point of an assassin it to blend in. They would look dumb dressing in robes that are hundreds of years before their era. Tbh all have their own opinion but you should rename this list ‘most iconic outfits’, not even robes because you put a whole viking outfit after Jacob’s robes. All to their own though 👍.

One of my favorite one is Arno's, because he has the look of Altair (the agile and swift look), but at the same time, gives it's wearer the ability to hide in the streets without a problem in the French revolution era. But still, I understand the list and the reasons :)

I have to disagree with you on Jacob and Evie and Arno. Having the simple trench coat for Jacob and Evie really highlights the gray and dreary environment the Industrial Revolution brought as well as demonstrating one of the Creed's tenants: "Hide in plain sight." Similarly with Arbo, while I did think that his basic blue could have a bit more flare, I think it was good. Most common is at the time had very basic colored clothing but Arno is technically born as a noble, so the basic blue shows his mixed identity as a commoner and a noble. The robes seem unfinished because he is a novice and his entire life revolves around Relist and not what he believes in. His Master Robes only appear at the end of the series because they represent Arno finally finding himself as an Assassin.

The title is “Which assassin has the best robes” so I don’t really think its fair to rank Eivor or Kassandra. I think its just your opinion, I happen to like Arno and Fry’s robes but thats just me.

It would have been more fitting to have Darius’ “Assassin” outfit and Basim’s robes be attributed for Assassin robes for those games if I’m being completely honest. Only caveat being one isn’t an assassin but both are side characters for the most part, but it’s more assassin-like compared to Eivor or Kassandra.

I disagree with that ranking. To me Jacob’s and Eve’s outfit are way better and way more efficient to an Assassin job. They are not so different from normal clothes, what would make them to blend with the crowd way easier, since they are not wearing eye grabbing colors and aren’t visibly carrying weapons, besides the fact that they only wear their hoods when they are sneaking (besides the monks in AC1, no civilian npc uses wears a shady hood), so their outfits are perfect for an Assassin, since the last thing an Assassin wants is to be discovered. Also the black/grayish color of their clothes really helps to sneak in the dark, opposite to white which stands out in the dark, since it is the color that most reflect light (the reason why Batman wears black and gray, not white). There is also the fact that black doesn’t keep blood stains so evident. (Is there anything more suspicious than a guy carrying a sword, wearing a hood in sunshine, with white robe with red stains on the sleeves?)

Jacob's, Evie's, and Arno's robes is literally doing what it's supposed to do, hide in plain sight, why is it so low? you rank Edward's robes high because it's easy to blend with the crowd with it, those three's robes is also like that. seems like you're just ranking it by how good the games were.

I completely agree when it comes to Giovanni’s I even go so far as to only upgrade the boots and bracers because I love the bare look of the robes so much. I max out the boots to messaglias (I think that’s how it’s spelled)and don’t go beyond the second upgrade on the bracers because I like the embroidered leather look . I started with AC2 back in early 2010 in my 12th birthday. I’m actually replaying currently at the time of this comment one of my favorite games ever. 2009 was a great year for gaming.

Nice list, but to comment on Arnos robes, what he wears in the cover art is NOT the outfit he gets when joining the Assassin's. The outfit on the cover art\trailers is actually "Arnos Tailored Outfit", which is a 3 diamond gear set, fairly cheap to obtain, and mediocre gear all round. (A couple pieces can only be unlocked by completing the easier co-op missions though, but It's still a different appearance that must be unlocked.) I'm 90% sure the Initiate Robes you get at the start were designed as a downgraded, worse fitting version of the outfit, so technically the proper version is the Tailored Set. This doesn't really counter any of your points against it though, as your points still stand with the tailored outfit, since they're very much at their core the same design.

I personally really like ac unity's robes because they are slim like Altair's which reflects arno's free running/ parkour abilities. As well I kinda like how its a bit more formal as to blend into the setting of revolutionary France so he is more one with the crowd. also I love how they went with all blue, red, and white to signify the colors of the revolution and arnos dedication to it. personally I would put them higher but I can see why you would put them where you put them

Arno's robes are clean as hell, they are simple but distinct and not so flashy as to make him stand-out too much in a crowd, I also think Ezio's robes look kinda silly when he starts wearing armour over them, like how is a guy clanking around in full plate armour going to blend in with a crowd or sneak up on anyone?

I really love Shao Jun's robes I love the way they look and the patterns over them look gorgeous, and for Connor personally I absolutely love and prefer the robes they can up with for the Tyranny Of King Washington DLC I LOVE those robes I also really wish they'd gone with the robes in Connor's initial concept art

I’m fairness the trench coat from Jacob and arno makes them blend in more than if he wore something like etzios robes which would make him stand out so the blending in value is the main thing assassins do example Altairs robes helped him stand out with the priests/nuns as seen in the trailer because it fit the time so my point is if Arno or Jacob wore something like as I said etzios it would not blend in with the outfits of the people from the time (when I say from the time I mean from the time in the game not the time period itself)
