Scaravelli inspired yoga weekend retreat with Catherine Annis at Gayles, Sussex, UK.
The environment and ambience at Gayles Retreat encourages an open, safe, relaxed and intimate atmosphere that promotes learning and self-development. We believe that retreats should be fulfilling and inspiring; unobtrusive but available and we do all we can to support you in making the most of your time here so that everybody leaves feeling stimulated, nourished and refreshed.
Gayles is set in ten acres of land adjacent to the Seven Sisters Country Park (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), The National Trust Crowlink Estate and Friston Forest.
With its open fire, high ceiling and refreshing artworks, The Stables, a beautifully converted 1930s stable and adjoining property, provides a warm and practical area for eating, chatting and relaxing. The ground level has an open-plan, well equipped, kitchen and dining room with under-floor heating. There is a separate stereo system with a CD player, DAB radio and amplifier (with an iPod connection cable) which you may wish to use to createyour own ambience. Immediately outside there is a large, decked, seated eating area which is wonderful for informal meals and gatherings in more clement weather.
Gayles is set in extraordinarily beautiful countryside, and there are excellent walking opportunities all around.

The yoga Catherine teaches has been inspired by the pioneering approach of Vanda Scaravelli. It's a gentle yet demanding form of Hatha yoga, which concentrates on developing core strength through releasing tension and creating length in the spine. It uses the breath and gravity to allow the spine to unfold like a wave, allowing the uninhibited opening and energising of the whole body.
Catherine began her yogic journey in her teens and had been practising for around 15 years, going to Sivananda, Iyengar, Astanga - all kinds of classes, experiencing as much as possible before discovering Scaravelli Inspired Yoga.
Practising yoga now for over 35 years, Catherine still remains passionate and dedicated, and shares her knowledge through her regular Scaravelli inspired classes, workshops, retreats, intensives, holidays, teacher training courses, and immersion courses.
Catherine never had the privilege of meeting Vanda, but she has worked with many of her key students such as Diane Long, Sophy Hoare and Sandra Sabatini. Catherine has also worked with John Stirk and Peter Balckaby, both well respected osteopaths and leading yoga teachers.
When Catherine began to work with John Stirk, and finally began to understand the importance of gravity. John became her teacher and mentor for 12 years, and they now collaborate on the Scaravelli Inspired Yoga Immersion course each year. John's insights into Vanda Scaravelli's life and work, and his own inspired approach to yoga and living has profoundly enriched Catherine's practise and teaching .
